Worker assaulted in Vancouver General Hospital parkade

(Ben Miljure/CTV) A staff member at Vancouver General Hospital was left with serious injuries after being assaulted near the building Monday night, according to police. The Vancouver Police Department told CTV News it responded to a 911 call just after 7 p.m. and found a woman in her 40s in a parkade next to the hospital. Police described her injuries as serious, but not life-threatening. She is currently recovering in hospital. The VPD's Major Crime Section is investigating and no arrests have been made.

Police in Greater Sudbury and the Ontario Ministry of Labour have confirmed they are investigating the death of 19-year-old Rocco Renaud. Police in Greater Sudbury and the Ontario Ministry of Labour have confirmed they are investigating the death of 19-year-old Rocco Renaud. Renaud was killed at a job site in Lively on May 23. Police responded around 8 p.m. to an address in the community. 'The individual was located unconscious and with no vital signs,' police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn said in an email. 'He was transported to hospital by Paramedic Services, where he was unfortunately pronounced deceased.' While the time of death has not yet been confirmed, Dunn said police are investigating. 'Detectives from the Major Crime Section are working in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and the Coroner's Office,' she said. Fatal injuries The Ministry of Labour confirmed that Renaud died at a workplace at a residence in Lively. 'It was reported that a worker was fatally injured while performing maintenance work,' the ministry said in an email. 'The ministry extends its sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the worker. Following the notification, ministry inspectors attended the scene to investigate. As the investigation is ongoing, no further details are available at this time.' His obituary said he was 'a bright light in the lives of all who knew him. 'A young man whose passion, kindness and adventurous spirit brought joy to everyone around him,' the obituary said. 'An avid sportsman, Rocco found his greatest happiness on the ice, the fairways, the slopes and in the great outdoors. His love for hockey was unmatched — whether he was skating across the rink with determination or cheering for his favourite team, his enthusiasm was contagious.' 'Rest easy, Rocco. You will forever be in our hearts.'

Man dies after being restrained by two police officers at Alice Springs supermarket
A man has died while being restrained by police following an altercation with a security guard at a supermarket, sparking a death-in-custody investigation. Officers were alerted of the incident with the security guard at Alice Springs' Coles store about 1.10pm on Tuesday, police said. Two Northern Territory officers were in the store at the time and restrained the man. "A short time later, the man stopped breathing and CPR was commenced," an NT police statement said. Emergency services arrived and the man was taken to Alice Springs Hospital, but he was pronounced dead about 2.20pm. "A crime scene was established, and the shopping centre is expected to remain closed," the police statement said. "The incident is being investigated as a death in custody." Major Crime Section detectives are travelling to Alice Springs, with police investigating the incident on behalf of the coroner.

The man was taken to Alice Springs hospital by St John Ambulance and was pronounced dead just after 2.20pm. The incident is being treated as a death in custody, and major crime section detectives were travelling to Alice Springs to continue the investigation, police said. A crime scene was established at the shopping centre, which will remain closed for the time being.

"St John Ambulance attended the scene and the man was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after 2:20pm." Police are treating the incident as a death in custody and will prepare a report for the coroner. A crime scene was established and the shopping centre is expected to remain closed until further notice. The spokesperson said detectives from the force's Major Crime Section were en route to Alice Springs and investigations were ongoing. Assistant Commissioner Travis Wurst is due to speak to the media in Darwin on Tuesday afternoon.
