Cobra look to turn tables on KL Tigers
KUALA LUMPUR: Traditional heavyweights Cobra will be out for revenge when they face defending champions KL Tigers in the Selangor Sports Council-SRU League (Selangor League) final on Sunday (July 13).
Cobra had lost 25-19 to Tigers in the men's final at the TUDM Stadium in Subang last year and Cobra head coach Wan Norsyahmi Wan Daud is expecting another tough fight.
The final will be held at Stadium Sultan Suleiman, Klang this time.
"KL Tigers are very well organised, they are a proper team," said Norsyahmi recently.
"We expect a very physical match as Tigers have plenty of expatriate players in their squad.
"We will have to come up with a plan to overcome the physical advantage they have.
"It would definitely mean a lot to me personally as well as the team to win it, especially after losing to them last year.
"We have not won the Selangor League in a very long time, in fact, I can't remember when we last won it."
Cobra had defeated UiTM Lions 29-21 while Tigers downed RMAF Blackhawks 34-5 during the semi-finals which were held at Cobra's home ground, Padang Astaka, in Petaling Jaya last week.
Blackhawks, who lost to Lions in the third-place decider last year, will also be looking to turn the tables on the latter.
The Selangor League has been the country's top club 15s competition in the absence of Malaysia Rugby League, which has not been held since 2019 due to various reasons.
A women's 15s category was included for the first time in the Selangor League this season which concluded last month.
Cobra Venom downed Armed Forces 26-12 in the final to claim the trophy - contributed by Selangor Women's Development and Community Welfare Exco Anfaal Saari - while SRU downed KL Tigers 31-10 in the third-place playoff.
