The nation's most famous animated character, Ejen Ali, continues to create history of his own when he has been given the honour of representing Malaysia at the prestigious World Expo 2025 currently taking place in Osaka, Japan. As a symbol of the aspirations of young Malaysians in the digital and technological era of the future, Ejen Ali's involvement on the international stage not only makes the local animation industry proud, but also symbolizes the progress of the country's creative talent, which is increasingly gaining a place in the eyes of the world. The presence of Agent Ali and Agent Alicia at the Malaysian Pavilion highlighted the extraordinary attraction as visitors from various countries were seen lining up for a chance to meet and take pictures with these animated heroes. The response received clearly illustrates the global appeal of this local IP. Representing the strength of Malaysia's creative industry, Ejen Ali comes forward with a universal message based on the values of courage, integrity and loyalty that is easily understood and accepted across cultures. Although many visitors to Osaka were new to the character, the dynamic visuals and passionate narrative on display immediately captured their attention. In fact, many continued to search for more information about the series online, reflecting the rapid and profound impact that Agent Ali had on th local comic fans. Usamah Zaid Yasin, the director of "Ejen Ali The Movie 2" and Chief Content Officer of WAU Animation, also attended the Malaysia Pavilion on 21 and 22 July 2025. His presence was followed by a special sharing session that revealed the creative process behind the development of the Ejen Ali franchise as well as WAU Animation's vision in developing world-class animated content. The session received an encouraging response from visitors from various backgrounds, including Japanese creative industry activists who expressed interest in learning more about this IP, thus opening up space for cooperation and the possibility of international collaboration in the future. The prestigious World Expo 2025 event runs from April 13 to October 13, 2025, and is expected to welcome more than 28 million visitors from around the world. As a platform that brings together international ideas, technology and culture, Ejen Ali's participation strengthens Malaysia's position in the fields of creative content, digital education and cultural diplomacy at the global level. For the record, Ejen Ali 2 grossed more than RM60 million at the box office and was officially crowned as the highest-grossing animated film in the history of Malaysian cinema, surpassing all local and international animated works that have ever been screened in the country. It also returned impressive numbers in Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore before achieving the limelight in Osaka.

The partnership reinforces ongoing effort to support Southeast Asia's energy transition while advancing regional interconnectivity and sustainability efforts. The signing ceremony took place after the official opening of the Malaysian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, which was officiated by Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. Sarawak Energy's group chief executive officer, Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, signed the MOU alongside JBIC's managing executive director, Sekine Hiroki. Also present were Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry Liew Chin Tong; Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, Datuk Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany; MITI Deputy Secretary General (Industry) Datuk Hanafi Sakri; and Malaysia Pavilion director Ellyza Mastura Amhad Hanipiah. The MOU establishes a framework for strategic collaboration between Sarawak Energy and JBIC to advance renewable energy initiatives and enhance regional interconnectivity. 'Sarawak is stepping up its plan to deeply integrate Borneo into the ASEAN power grid,' Awang Tengah commented during a press conference after the MOU signing. 'Sarawak is also actively enhancing its grid infrastructure to strengthen power distribution across the state and beyond. 'Besides renewable energy, Sarawak is transforming its industrial landscape through strategic diversification into hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), oil and gas, petrochemical products, and aerospace. 'These developments complement the sustainable oil and gas sector and expansion into high-value petrochemical downstream activities with advanced technologies and sustainable practices.' The Sarawak Deputy Premier said this is shaping a dynamic economic hub in Southeast Asia, balancing economic growth and environmental responsibility while achieving long-term prosperity. 'Today's signing of an agreement between Sarawak Energy and the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation will partly enhance our collaboration. 'In this respect, I would like to invite more Japanese companies to invest and participate in Sarawak's economic development agenda.' Aligned with the ASEAN Power Grid initiative and the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), the partnership contributes meaningfully to long-term sustainability and strengthens regional cooperation. Both organisations will engage in ongoing dialogue and explore joint opportunities that support Sarawak Energy's long-term growth strategy and Southeast Asia's broader decarbonisation efforts. The MOU signing was coordinated with the support of the federal Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, and Sarawak's Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, through the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak.

BANGKOK: Malaysian exhibitors have successfully inked two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth RM17 million at THAIFEX-Anuga Asia 2025, Asia's leading food and beverage trade show. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the agreements, signed with partners from Thailand and the United States, reflect the growing international confidence in the quality and competitiveness of Malaysian products. "These agreements with partners from Thailand and the United States are not just business transactions - they are a testament to the world's growing confidence in Malaysian products. "Our entrepreneurs have proven that, with the right support, they can compete and excel on the global stage," he said after officiating the Malaysian Pavilion here on Friday. Mohamad on a four-day working visit to Thailand said the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry has been actively supporting local entrepreneurs through strategic initiatives, ensuring they meet global standards while maintaining the unique quality and authenticity of Malaysian products. "Our vision is clear: we want Malaysian products to become household names worldwide. "With the dedication of our farmers, food producers, and government agencies, I am confident that we will see even greater achievements in the years to come," he added. Mohamad also invited international buyers to explore Malaysia's diverse range of high-quality food products showcased at the pavilion. He said the strong performance at THAIFEX-Anuga Asia 2025 underscores Malaysia's growing influence in the global food and beverage arena. Mohamad added that with continued government backing, aggressive promotional campaigns, and industry collaboration, Malaysia is poised to expand its footprint as a leading agri-food exporter in Southeast Asia and beyond. Meanwhile, the Counsellor at the Agriculture Counsellor Office, Shaiful Naszri Wahid, said Malaysian agri-food products are gaining recognition due to their compliance with stringent international standards, including halal certification, organic farming practices, and sustainable sourcing. "By using strategic trade platforms like Thailand, we can further elevate Malaysia's global visibility and build lasting trade partnerships across and beyond the region," he said. With 137 Malaysian exhibitors showcasing high-quality products, the Malaysia Pavilion became a focal point for international buyers during the trade show, which was held at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani from May 27 to 31.
