Falk: Bayern want two Chelsea players – not including Christopher Nkunku

Chelsea are through the Club World Cup and now their summer can get into gear in terms of sales. The Blues have a lot of bodies to shift, as they did last year, and the good news is that some of them have proper interest. Today's exclusive from Christian Falk claims that Bayern Munich have eyes on two Blue defenders – and that's op top of attacker Christopher Nkunku, who they are also interested in. One of the two is very much up for sale, the other less so. Gusto and Veiga wanted by German giants Renato Veiga in action for Juventus. (Photo by) Malo Gusto has had a funny stretch at Chelsea so far – he was largely really impressive under Mauricio Pochettino but has suffered playing inverted under Enzo Maresca. However he was superb against PSG in the Club World Cup final, a reminder of what he can do. Despite some bad times, it feels like he's an important part of Maresca's plans and would only be sold for a pretty penny. Renato Veiga is much more available. He was loaned out in January at his request, and is surely a prime candidate to be cashed in on this summer as he looks for more first team football to cement his place in the Portugal squad ahead of the World Cup next year. Bayern must sell before buying – Chelsea could be left waiting a while Falk writes that Bayern's interest in the pair would be conditional on them selling players. 'They like Malo Gusto… and have an eye on Renato Veiga. However in both cases, they have to sell players first.' That means we could be waiting a while for the interest to develop into anything serious – not ideal given we want things to move quickly this summer so we can get on with our own squad changes.

Transfer Radar: Bayern Munich have inquired about Chelsea's Malo Gusto

The start of the 2025/26 campaign for Bayern Munich is quickly creeping up on us and they are still navigating their way through the summer transfer window to try to make the necessary additions to the squad. They're doing so in a manner where they have already sort of initiated contingency plans since they lost out to Liverpool in getting Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The search goes on for a proper, top-class winger and VfB Stuttgart are really playing hard ball in Bayern's pursuit of striker Nick Woltemade. While most of Bayern's focus is currently centered around Woltemade and winger options with the likes of Luis Diaz, Xavi Simons, Christopher Nkunku, and Rodrygo, they are also keeping their eyes and ears open for opportunities elsewhere on the pitch. Per information from L'Equipe journalists Hugo Delom and Loïc Tanzi (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern have made inquiries for Chelsea defender Malo Gusto, who just received a FIFA Club World Cup winner's medal with the impressive 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey. The report that Gusto could very well wind up leaving Chelsea this summer, but they would likely want something more than 30 million euros for him since his contract with The Blues runs through June 2030. Bayern's continued interest in Nkunku could also see that there is some sort of joint-deal that is worked out to try to sign both the winger and Gusto, especially with the likelihood of Sacha Boey leaving Bayern and Jamal Musiala's long injury spell on the sidelines. Vincent Kompany might need to use Josip Stanišić at left back until Alphonso Davies is back fit midway through this coming season, which, with Boey presumably on his way out, would leave a right back void bar the depth of Konrad Laimer. Laimer, however, has recently mentioned that he prefers to play more in midfield as opposed to right back. All things considered, regardless of what winds up happening with Nkunku, Gusto could wind up being a viable option for Bayern should he definitely wind up leaving Chelsea this summer. For the German Rekordmeister, it is certainly something worth keeping tabs on in the coming weeks. Bayern Munich make Malo Gusto enquiry

Bayern Munich have made an enquiry about the availability of Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto, according to L'Equipe. The 22-year-old joined Chelsea in January 2023 and has quickly established himself as a prominent squad member, making over 80 appearances for the Blues since his arrival. Advertisement Bayern's interest in Gusto comes amid uncertainty over the future of their current right-back options. They mainly deployed Konrad Laimer in that position last season due to injuries to Sacha Boey and Josip Stanisic. At least one of Boey or Stanisic is expected to depart the Allianz Arena this summer, and Bayern will need to bring in a replacement. The Bundesliga club have been keeping tabs on Gusto since his time at Lyon before he completed a €35m move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are not actively looking to sell Gusto, who is under contract until 2030. However, the situation is complicated by the presence of club captain Reece James, whose return to fitness could limit Gusto's playing time. Advertisement Gusto is also strictly a traditional full-back and is not comfortable inverting into midfield like Enzo Maresca demands sometimes. Additionally, the emergence of highly rated youngster Josh Acheampong has given Chelsea further options at right-back, potentially making Gusto expendable if the right offer arrives. Chelsea are sanctioning several departures at the moment, and Gusto's future at Stamford Bridge could be one to keep an eye on. The Blues have recently agreed deals with Arsenal and Bournemouth for Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic respectively, while more exits are imminent. For now, though, Chelsea's focus is on Sunday's Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern Munich interested in signing Chelsea's Malo Gusto

According to a report from L'Équipe, Bayern Munich have enquired about the availability of Malo Gusto (22), with a view to a potential transfer from Chelsea. The 22-year-old is currently in the USA with Chelsea, preparing to face Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup. Gusto signed for the West London club in January 2023 for a fee of €30m, but spent the remainder of the season on loan at his formative club. The former Lyon right-back has since been a regular at Stamford Bridge. He has made 84 appearances for the Blues, registering 11 assists, including 6 appearances for the Premier League club at the Club World Cup. Advertisement Right-back is one of the positions that Bayern are looking to bolster this summer. Sacha Boey (24) is expected to leave the Allianz Arena, with Marseille and Galatasaray both interested in a potential move for the Frenchman. If Boey were to depart, this could make way for a move for Gusto. It remains to be seen if Chelsea would be willing to sell the France international. GFFN | Liam Wraith
