Oasis are set to take to the stage at 8.15pm this Friday, marking their long awaited comeback. They will play for just over two hours before their first comeback show ends at a 10.30pm curfew.

"I'm p***ed off": MP rages after 'illegal' waste dump erupts into huge blaze

An MP has said he is 'p***ed off' in a ranting social media video after an 'illegal' pile of waste erupted into a huge blaze in Wigan on Tuesday evening (July 1). Residents were told to keep their windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke covering the area, after the fire broke out involving a 'large amount of waste' on Bolton House Road in the Bickershaw area. Fire crews raced to the scene to tackle the blaze throughout the evening, with a clean up operation and investigation now underway. After the fire broke out, he also issued a 'furious' statement about the fire, which he said involved an 'illegal waste dump', which he has been claiming was a 'risk' to the public for some time. "I want to update you about a few things, because I'm as p***ed off as you are," he said in a video on Facebook. "I've been flagging it for months and I've been asking for timelines and not always got them. Here's what's going to happen next. "First, I have asked Wigan Council and the Environment Agency for a specific timeline and a detailed plan about how and when they are going to remove the waste from the site. They have assured me that's possible, there is no legal barrier, all they need to do is develop a plan and make sure they can find the money. "Second, I've been assured by the Environment Agency and the police that there is an ongoing, live, criminal investigation. I have asked for what details of that investigation I can share with you to show the progress they have been making." He continued: "I am p***ed off that this has happened. You are too. And we are going to get answers." Greater Manchester Police said the cause of the fire is unknown and that officers are awaiting further information. --- Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life. Aldi's brutal M&S takedown as it 'launches' strawberry sandwich equivalent

M&S's viral strawberry sandwich has had a second spin in the spotlight thanks to budget supermarket Aldi, which has mock-launched a random alternative When M&S think they are one step ahead - Aldi always has a secret marketing ploy up their sleeves. In the latest supermarket wars, Aldi has taken a brutal, but humorous, swipe at M&S for the viral strawberry sandwich in the best way possible. Aldi is known for it's tongue-in-cheek social media jibes, particularly directed at Marks and Spencer's after the Colin and Cuthbert caterpillar cake wars. ‌ Now they have jumped on the sandwich bandwagon after M&S made headlines when it announced an unusual strawberry sandwich - sending social media into a frenzy. Shoppers were divided over the unusual fruit filling, complete with cream, wedged between two slices of thick sweetened bread. ‌ So Aldi did what Aldi does best and mocked up their own 'viral' sandwich, and it's a dupe of M&S's luxury offering. The Aldi version is made up of carrots and creme on a soft sweetened bread. To add a further punch to M&S, Aldi's caption was mocking the famous M&S strapline, as the Facebook post said: "This is not just any sando... this is a Carrot and Creme Sando. 500K likes and we'll make it happen." M&S are known for calling their sandwiches 'sando's' when they launched their Chicken Katsu Sando last year, and by joining in on the viral trend, shoppers have loved Aldi's ploy at taking a swipe at M&S. One fan commented on the post: "Can always count on Aldi to have a sense of humour," to which Aldi replied: "Love a good bit of tomfoolery." While another eager Aldi fan chimed: "I've been waiting for aldi response on this," and a third penned: "Guaranteed to make you see in the dark!" As Aldi replied: "100% night vision or your money back." Meanwhile a fourth said: "Easy now, wouldn't want any beef in that sandwich," to which Aldi boldly responded: "Oh, we've always got beef!" It comes after Aldi changed it's name at one of their Manchester stores ahead of the Oasis reunion gig. It has paid tribute by having changed the name of its Bury New Road store in Prestwich. The store, which is just a few miles from Heaton Park, has been renamed 'Aldeh'. ‌ The retailer has said that the temporary rebrand embraces the Mancunian pronunciation of its name. It described the decision to rename the store as being in homage to the Gallagher brothers and Manchester's musical heritage. Aldi has revealed that the sign will be on display at the store throughout Oasis' much-awaited comeback stint in the city. It's teased that fans of the band have already queued outside the store to take photos of the new tribute.
