Mangaluru International Airport earns ACI Level 4 accreditation

Mangaluru International Airport has earned the prestigious Level 4 accreditation in Airport Customer Experience from Airports Council International (ACI), positioning itself among a select group of global airports recognised for excellence in customer-centric service, officials said on Saturday. The accreditation, awarded on July 16, is valid for one year and follows the airport's attainment of Level 3 accreditation in February 2024, they said. According to a statement from the airport spokesperson here, the ACI programme is the first global initiative dedicated to advancing customer experience management in the aviation sector. According to ACI, Level 4 accreditation demonstrates a strong foundation of customer-focused practices and a readiness for the strategic, enterprise-wide transformation required to reach Level 5 — the highest level of the programme. Over the past year, the airport has implemented several key initiatives including the launch of the Adani OneApp and Digi Yatra, deployment of AI-based surveillance systems, smart cleaning robots, improved flight information displays, and free Wi-Fi kiosks. These upgrades have not only enhanced operational efficiency but also improved the overall passenger experience, it stated.

Mangaluru International Airport gets Level 4 accreditation in customer experience

The Airports Council International (ACI) has awarded the Level 4 accreditation in Airport Customer Experience to Mangaluru International Airport (MIA). Stating that the airport has achieved a significant milestone in its journey towards excellence in customer service, the MIA, in a release, said the accreditation follows the airport's attainment of Level 3 accreditation in February 2024. The ACI Airport Customer Experience Accreditation programme is the first global initiative focused on advancing customer experience management within the airport industry. The accreditation issued by ACI on July 16 is valid for one year. The level of accreditation serves as a critical foundation, demonstrating robust customer-centric practices that are essential for progressing to Level 5, the highest standard of excellence. It validates an organisation's readiness to adopt and sustain the strategic, enterprise-wide transformation required at Level 5. The MIA said the accreditation places the airport among a select group of airports worldwide, showing an exceptional dedication to enhancing the passenger experience across all touchpoints. The accreditation evaluates multiple parameters, including airport culture, governance, operational improvement, measurement, customer strategy, and customer understanding. Over the past year, the Mangaluru International Airport has implemented a slew of initiatives focused on technological innovation, infrastructure development, and improved passenger engagement. These efforts have significantly enhanced both the travel experience and operational efficiency. They include introduction of the aviio App for airport stakeholders, launch of Digi Yatra, deployment of smart cleaning robots within the terminal, AI-based surveillance cameras for enhanced safety and project monitoring, launch of the Adani OneApp to unify and enhance passenger experience, free Wi-Fi kiosks, and flight information display system. An MIA spokesperson said, 'The accreditation is a testament to the dedication of our entire team and our unwavering focus on providing a seamless, comfortable, and memorable journey for every traveller.'

Mangaluru Airport Gets ACI Level 4 Nod for Customer Experience

Mangaluru, Jul 26: Mangaluru International Airport has received the coveted Level 4 accreditation for Airport Customer Experience from Airports Council International (ACI), marking a significant stride in its transformation into a modern aviation hub. This latest recognition, valid for one year from July 16, comes after the airport achieved Level 3 status in February 2024. ACI's globally benchmarked programme evaluates how well airports manage and improve customer experience through a range of parameters — from strategic planning to technology, operational improvement, and staff training. The accreditation places Mangaluru among a small group of international airports with demonstrated excellence in passenger engagement and service delivery. Key to this upgrade was the airport's adoption of digital innovation tools such as the Adani OneApp, Digi Yatra integration, AI-driven surveillance cameras, smart terminal cleaning robots, and the aviio App for airport stakeholders. The addition of free Wi-Fi kiosks and advanced flight information systems have also contributed to the improved passenger experience. 'Our aim has always been to enhance traveller satisfaction through seamless service. This recognition is a testament to our commitment to excellence and a great motivation for the journey ahead,' said a spokesperson for the airport. The Level 4 certification also indicates that the airport is prepared for the systemic transformation necessary to reach Level 5 — the highest honour in ACI's customer experience accreditation system.

Aviation group urges better connectivity, services at MIA

Mangaluru: A group of aviation enthusiasts from the coast, working and studying in different parts of the country and abroad, recently wrote a letter to the MP, Mangaluru International Airport authorities and others, highlighting pressing issues faced at MIA. The letter was written by the 'Coastal Aviation Task Group', a collective of aviation aficionados. They said that there is a lack of domestic connectivity, with major cities such as Pune, Kochi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bagdogra, Hubballi and Coimbatore remaining unconnected. This deficiency forces travellers to utilise distant airports like Bengaluru or Kannur. International access was also limited, with high-demand routes to Riyadh, Sharjah, Muscat and Singapore not being served at all. Furthermore, seat availability on existing routes was extremely restricted, even on key sectors with high passenger demand such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Dammam, resulting in exorbitant fares. Cargo traders face high rates and operational hurdles, often necessitating the rerouting of shipments through other airports such as Kannur, Bengaluru and Goa. The group highlighted that MIA currently hosts operations only from IndiGo and Air India Express, calling for more private airlines to enter the market, as well as full-service carriers like Air India, to enhance service and eliminate price monopolies. "Despite higher passenger numbers than some airports that have received expanded services, MIA continues to be neglected by its existing operators," they stated in their letter. Additionally, the group demanded dedicated cargo services, including regular weekly freighter operations from various air carriers, which would benefit regional exporters, especially given the challenging road access over the ghats. The letter also referenced successful solutions implemented at other airports, including stakeholder meetings and collaboration, as seen at Tiruchirappalli, Surat and Kannur. Joint efforts involving MP, MLAs, tourism boards, trade associations and airport authorities led to MoUs and rapid service expansions. Direct engagement with airline leadership, exemplified by Tiruchirappalli's MP, resulted in a significant increase in domestic flights. Further suggestions included establishing a tourism promotion office at Mangaluru airport to highlight local destinations and boost visitor numbers, as well as presenting tourism videos at the airport, similar to those at Jaipur and Andaman and Nicobar, to inform travellers about the region's rich land, cuisine and culture. The installation of Tulu-language signage at the airport was also recommended to preserve and promote the region's identity and culture.

Middle East Airspace Closure Disrupts Flights from Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru : Flight operations at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) have been impacted due to the closure of airspace in parts of the Middle East, the airport said on Sunday. The disruption is linked to escalating tensions in West Asia, which have forced several countries to suspend civilian air traffic over their territories. 'Due to the closure of airspace in the Middle East, flight operations from Mangaluru International Airport have been impacted. Passengers are requested to check with their respective airlines on the status of their flights before arriving at the airport,' a spokesperson for MIA said. The affected routes primarily involve services to Gulf countries, which are among the busiest international sectors from the coastal Karnataka airport. Carriers operating flights to destinations such as Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat are reportedly adjusting flight paths or delaying departures due to the unfolding situation. Aviation analysts say the current instability in the Middle East — marked by drone strikes, heightened military alertness, and retaliatory operations — has triggered temporary airspace closures in parts of Iran, Iraq, and surrounding Gulf airspace. The resulting diversions are leading to longer flight durations, increased fuel costs, and scheduling disruptions across several South Asian airports, including MIA. Although no major cancellations have been reported as of Monday evening, airline officials indicate that the situation remains fluid and subject to change. Passengers with upcoming international travel plans have been strongly advised to remain in contact with their airlines for updates. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is closely monitoring the developments and coordinating with airlines on operational safety measures. Meanwhile, the airport has set up help desks to assist travellers and manage crowd flow in case of extended delays. MIA is a key international airport connecting Karnataka's coastal region to the Middle East, serving a large number of non-resident Indians employed in the Gulf. Travel industry observers warn that if the geopolitical situation escalates further, it could lead to a wider impact on flight networks across South and West Asia. Further updates are expected as more clarity emerges on the duration and scope of the airspace closures.
