"BJP's 10-year vehicle ban will force 62 lakh to buy new vehicles; profits only auto giants while tormenting Delhiites": Atishi

New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday slammed the Delhi BJP government for its 'Tughlaqi' order, declaring it anti-people and pro-corporate. AAP has denounced the abrupt directive to remove 60 lakh vehicles older than 10 years from Delhi's roads, describing it as a 'Tughlaqi diktat' designed to benefit automobile manufacturers at the expense of ordinary citizens. According to an official release, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, pointed out that the BJP is colluding with vehicle manufacturers to force mass vehicle replacement. She demanded that the BJP come clean and tell the people of Delhi the exact amount it has received in donations from automobile companies for elections. 'This is the real reason behind the sudden ban on old vehicles,' Atishi said, as per the release. 'The BJP government has imposed a 'Tughlaqi Farman' aimed solely at harassing Delhiites. Under this order, vehicles older than 10 years will be denied fuel and will be forced off the roads. This means 62 lakh vehicles will have to be removed overnight--40 lakh two-wheelers and 20 lakh four-wheelers,' Atishi added. Highlighting the disruption this move would cause to ordinary lives, Atishi said, 'Most working-class people in Delhi rely on two-wheelers to commute to their offices. How are these 40 lakh motorcyclists supposed to reach work now? How will they go about their daily lives?' Sharpening her attacks further, Atishi said that the BJP's order was nothing short of a 'Tughlaqi, baseless, and illogical decree.' 'The age of a vehicle has nothing to do with the pollution it causes. Well-maintained vehicles, even if old, do not emit pollution. An old vehicle does not automatically mean a heavily used vehicle. Some cars run three lakh kilometres in just seven years, while others, even after 15 years, haven't clocked more than 50,000 kilometres. According to the BJP's order, a vehicle that has run three lakh kilometres can stay on the road, but one that's done only 50,000 must go. If this isn't draconian, what is?' the AAP leader said. Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia took to 'X' and wrote, 'In just five months, even children in Delhi have realised that BJP leaders have no idea how to run a government. All they know is how to harass people, loot them, demolish their homes, and ruin lives. How will stopping the petrol supply to 10-year-old cars and bikes reduce pollution? All this has done is bring windfall profits to petrol pumps on Delhi's borders in UP and Haryana. These pumps now have long queues, and 90 per cent of the people in those lines are Delhi residents with 10-year-old vehicles.' Sisodia mentioned further that the people who only needed to travel 5-10 kilometres are now driving 15-20 kilometres to petrol pumps near Delhi's borders just to get fuel and drive within the city. 'Tell me, isn't this increasing pollution, traffic congestion, and the suffering of the common man? That's why we say, these people can't run a government--they only know how to trouble the public,' the AAP leader said. (ANI)

Sisodia grilled for 3 hours by ACB

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was on Friday questioned for nearly three hours by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) over an alleged multi-crore rupee classroom scam. The former deputy chief minister left the ACB office around 2.40 p.m. after appearing before investigators around noon. While a defiant Sisodia lashed out at the BJP for allegedly misusing investigative agencies for political vendetta, the ACB said that the scam involved inflated costs in the construction of classrooms and school buildings under the Delhi government. An official ACB statement said, 'The case is registered under Section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, along with IPC Sections 409 and 120B (dealing with criminal breach of trust and conspiracy).' 'Manish Sisodia was questioned in the presence of an independent witness, and his statements were recorded. Further investigation is currently underway,' said the ACB. Earlier this month, the ACB issued summonses to Sisodia and former Health Minister Satyendar Jain. Jain appeared before investigators on June 6. The summonses were linked to a First Information Report (FIR) registered by the ACB on April 30, alleging irregularities in the construction of 12,748 classrooms or semi-permanent structures in government schools. According to the ACB, the alleged scam involved awarding contracts at inflated prices, each classroom reportedly costing Rs 24.86 lakh, nearly five times the standard cost. Investigators claimed the contracts were given to 34 contractors, many of whom had links to the AAP. Further allegations include that the semi-permanent structures (SPS), designed to last around 30 years, were priced similarly to more durable Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) buildings, which typically have a lifespan of 75 years. The ACB also noted that an additional Rs 326 crore was added to the project cost without fresh tenders. The AAP has consistently dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. The ED, Delhi Zonal Office conducted search operations at 37 locations across the national Capital under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 in the Delhi classroom construction irregularities case and recovered digital evidence and 322 bank passbooks linked to mule accounts opened in the names of labourers, allegedly to divert government funds

ED claims new evidence in city classroom 'scam'

NEW DELHI: Two days after it carried out searches as part of its investigation into the Delhi classrooms construction "scam" allegedly involving former deputy CM Manish Sisodia and his cabinet colleague Satyendar Jain , the ED said its teams found 322 bank passbooks linked to mule accounts opened in the names of labourers to divert govt funds under the "guise of legitimate transactions". "Several dummy firms were found during the search which had no real infrastructure, documentation or operational legitimacy but were shown to have received substantial payments for construction activities relating to additional classrooms," the ED said. Additionally, substantial incriminating documents and digital evidence were seized during the search, it further said. ED has alleged misappropriation of funds exceeding Rs 2,000 crore in the classrooms construction "scam". The agency's money laundering probe is based on an FIR by Delhi's anti-corruption branch which had questioned Jain on June 6, and Sisodia on Friday.

Classroom ‘scam': ACB summons Sisodia, AAP claims diversion tactic

New Delhi: Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Friday alleged that BJP was using FIRs as a distraction tactic to hide its own failures in governance. Sisodia was called by the anti-corruption branch in a case related to alleged corruption in the construction of classrooms in state-run schools and was questioned for nearly three years. The former deputy chief minister, who had also the education department in AAP govt when the tenders for the construction of classrooms were floated, alleged that BJP was using investigations to divert attention. "Just like all previous probes led to nowhere, this one will also come to nothing," Sisodia said. He claimed that the ruling party had "failed" to do any "meaningful work" in Delhi since assuming office in Feb and "wasted" 100 days "without improving electricity, water, education or healthcare". "BJP, driven by political vendetta, is misusing its agencies to register FIRs in cases where there is no wrongdoing. This is a completely politically motivated case. In the last 10 years, BJP has used every agency to dig into the lives of AAP leaders, yet found nothing. All they do is file fake FIRs and keep dragging the matter. Nothing came out of it earlier, and nothing will come out of it now," he said. Asserting that the accusations had no basis, the AAP functionary said BJP MP Manoj Tiwari levelled allegations against him in the matter. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pedro Carbo: Inicia hoy con Amazon CFD y construye un segundo ingreso. Addressing a press conference, former CM and senior AAP functionary Atishi also termed it as a "fake" case. "In the past ten years, over 200 cases have been filed by BJP-controlled agencies against AAP leaders. But despite extensive investigations, raids and examination of files by ED, CBI, Delhi Police and ACB, not a single rupee of corruption has been recovered from any AAP leader," Atishi said. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed that during their time in office, AAP leaders never provided the requested information to the investigating agencies, which resulted in the probe progressing very slowly. "Now that the BJP is in power in Delhi, the investigative agencies are receiving full cooperation, and not only Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, but several other AAP leaders will soon land in jail," Sachdeva claimed.

Over 300 mule account passbooks seized in ED raids linked to Delhi classroom 'scam'

NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized more than 300 bank passbooks linked to mule accounts opened in the names of labourers, allegedly used for diverting Delhi government funds sourced from the classroom-construction 'scam' during the previous AAP regime, officials said on Friday. It is to be noted here that ED officials conducted searches in connection with the case at 37 locations across Delhi on June 18. The AAP termed the move a 'desperate' attempt to divert public attention and asserted that the allegations against its leaders were 'politically motivated'. The ED registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), which is equivalent to a police FIR, under criminal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). This was based on an FIR registered by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi on 30 April against AAP leaders and former ministers in the cabinet of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, including Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, and a few others. Later, in a statement, a copy of which is with this newspaper, the ED said its officials had 'unearthed substantial incriminating evidence from the premises of a private contractor'. It said, 'Among the materials seized were original departmental files belonging to the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, as well as rubber stamps bearing the names and designations of officials from the Public Works Department (PWD).'
