Nashik civic body plans to raise Rs100cr through green municipal bonds

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to raise Rs100 crore through the issuance of municipal green bonds. This move mirrors a similar initiative undertaken by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The funds secured from these green bonds will be dedicated to various environment-friendly projects in preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. These initiatives will encompass crucial areas such as water supply management, waste management, and other related environmental efforts. Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri , while talking to TOI, said, "We are working in that direction to raise the funds as we will need funds for various green projects in view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. We will raise around Rs100 crore through the green municipal bonds." She also highlighted that central govt offers incentives to municipal corporations that raise funds for green projects through such bonds. The PCMC recently raised Rs200 crore through green municipal bonds and became the first municipal corporation in Maharashtra to do so. The bond issue witnessed substantial investor interest, being oversubscribed by 5.1 times. The bonds were floated via private placement on the BSE's Electronic Bidding Platform and attracted bids worth Rs513 crore, oversubscribing the offer by 5.13 times. The base issue of Rs100 crore was fully subscribed within just one minute of opening, indicating strong investor confidence.

NMC chief, top cop review traffic situation at junctions

Nashik: The city's municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri, police commissioner Sandeep Karnik, and MLA Devyani Pharande conducted a joint inspection of several congested traffic junctions on Monday. The senior officers visited several busy locations, including Dwarka Circle, Shalimar, Mumbai Naka, Indira Nagar bypass, and other areas to assess encroachment issues and traffic bottlenecks. During the inspection, MLA Pharande proposed several solutions to the civic and police administration, including demolishing the Dwarka Circle underpass, relocating bus stops at Mumbai Naka and Shalimar Chowk, and establishing dedicated bus lanes at the Mahamarg bus stand. She also highlighted the need to address unauthorised autorickshaw stands that contribute to traffic congestion and pose safety risks. Nashik Municipal Corporation's commissioner directed civic officials to clear encroachments at all junctions during the visit. Officials noted uneven road surfaces in DGP Nagar, Indira Nagar, and other locations, prompting instructions for road levelling work. The administration had initiated encroachment removal at Dwarka Circle on Sunday to address traffic issues. Following the joint inspection, the NMC continued its anti-encroachment drive for the second consecutive day. The operation targeted illegal structures, sheds, and hoardings along various routes, including the stretch from Dwarka Circle to the crematorium in Nashik East division, Shahi Marg (the route through which the sadhus arrive at Ramkund to take a holy dip in the Godavari during the Kumbh Mela), Bagwanpura, and from Sarda Circle to Dwarka Circle. The drive resulted in the removal of 55 kiosks and encroachments from 26 shops along these roads.

Nashik civic body to conduct tree census after 8 years

Nashik: After a gap of almost 8 years, the civic body's garden department is set to undertake a new tree census in the city. The previous census was completed in 2016-17. Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) issued tender notices on Tuesday to engage a private agency to conduct the tree census. Following an unsuccessful tender in Jan, the administration has now released a fresh tender with approval from NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri. "This census will utilise GIS/GPS technology for precise location tracking and data collection. Additionally, the NMC administration intends to develop or acquire application software to streamline the workflow of the tree authority and effectively manage the data generated from the tree census," said the civic officials. The survey will focus on trees measuring 10cm or more in girth and standing three metres or taller. The census will incorporate GIS/GPS technology-enabled devices alongside manual counting methods, with the collected data being integrated into the NMC's satellite imagery, according to officials. Bid submissions will close on June 23, with the opening scheduled for June 24. Nashik's initial tree census in 2007 documented 20 lakh trees. The second census, conducted in 2016-17, recorded 47.9 lakh trees citywide. This upcoming census will be the city's third such exercise. Officials anticipate the new census to register 50 lakh trees across Nashik. The previous survey, which required 15 months to complete, identified 198 tree species, comprising 25 medicinal varieties and 61 fruit-bearing types.
