Manny Jacinto Reveals a 'Brutal' Deleted Scene From THE ACOLYTE That Showed His Sith's True Darkness — GeekTyrant

At Denver Fan Expo, The Acolyte star Manny Jacinto revealed that one particularly intense moment showcasing his character's viciousness didn't make the final cut. Jacinto played Qimir, a seemingly chill, wine-sipping rogue who's ultimately revealed to be a deadly Sith assassin known as The Stranger. While he already gets his hands bloody in Episode 5, there was originally a scene that pushed his brutality even further. Jacinto said, via Screen Rant: 'Star Wars has always been PG, but you want to find some brutal aspects of these fights… There was one moment, I think, where I just take one Jedi and keep slamming his head on to a rock, because we wanted to show how brutal this guy could be, without any remorse,' That's a level of violence we've rarely see in Star Wars . The moment likely would've been part of the episode where he cuts down a squad of Jedi who corner him in the jungle. Even without the extra head-smashing, that lightsaber brawl was already one of the most vicious in the frnachise. While The Acolyte drew plenty of conversation online, it ultimately struggled with viewership, despite being Disney+'s second most-watched series of the year. The show was canceled after just one season, which pissed a lot of fans off. The cast included Amandla Stenberg in a dual role as Osha and Mae, Dafne Keen as Padawan Jecki, Charlie Barnett as Jedi Yord, Carrie-Anne Moss as Master Indara, and Lee Jung-jae as Master Sol. Rebecca Henderson and Jodie Turner-Smith also played key roles, with Leslye Headland ( Russian Doll ) creating the series. According to cinematographer Chris Teague, the team stayed grounded in Lucas's vision during production: "Leslye would always say, 'What would George do? What would George think?' And that was our guiding principle." As for what's next in the galaxy far, far away, The Mandalorian & Grogu is heading to theaters next May, and Ahsoka Season 2 is also expected to drop sometime in 2026.

The Reason Simone Ashley's Role in the ‘F1' Film Was Cut Down

Simone Ashley's casting in the upcoming F1 movie made headlines recently, amidst reports from early screenings suggesting her role had been significantly cut. The Formula 1 racing film, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, has been in the works since 2021, with Ashley's casting being announced in June 2024. In March this year, she revealed to Who What Wear that she had been meeting for the role since before the release of her Bridgerton season. The actress has been involved in early promotions for the film, and just as recently as three weeks ago, she spoke to Elle about the role. 'I have a very small part, but I'm grateful to be in that movie', she told the outlet. 'I don't think I'll ever do anything like that again.' Which is why it came as a surprise to many when early viewers of F1 revealed her role had been cut to seconds, with no speaking moments. The director of the film, Joseph Kosinski, has now confirmed this in a talk with People. 'It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use,' he explained. 'But Simone, she's an incredible talent, incredible actress, incredible singer, and I would love to work with her again.' Despite his flattering words, many fans have condemned the treatment of the actress, especially as it mirrors the experience of Manny Jacinto (The Good Place and Star Wars: The Acolyte), who was set to star in Top Gun: Maverick, another of Kosinski's films. Jacinto's role, which required arduous fitness training, was also sizably reduced to a non-speaking role. On this, Kosinski commented similarly, telling IndieWire, 'You just don't have room to fit everything in.' However, many fans see these moments as symptomatic of a larger issue, where actors of colour are sidelined, unconsciously cutting down representation. Jacinto spoke on this and his experience last year, revealing to GQ that it was disappointing yet, 'it kind of fuels you.' He explained, 'If we [people of colour] want bigger stories out there, we have to make them for ourselves.' Ashley has yet to comment on the F1 cuts; nonetheless, we're sure we will see the talented actress in many more projects.

After Simone Ashley's Erasure From The 'F1' Movie Sparked A Conversation About Hollywood's Treatment Of Actors Of Color, The Director Has Spoken Out

If you're planning to watch F1: The Movie in hopes of seeing Simone Ashley, then I have some bad news for you. For context, it was announced in July 2024 that Simone had been cast in the highly anticipated Formula 1 movie, which is set in the real-life F1 world and stars Brad Pitt as a veteran driver who comes out of retirement to race alongside a fresh-faced rookie, played by Damson Idris. Simone was seen filming with Damson on numerous occasions, sparking excitement and intrigue as to how their characters might be linked in the film. She's also talked super excitedly about her involvement in the buzzy blockbuster, telling Who What Wear in March that her role had been in the works for a 'long time' and that she felt 'so grateful' to be a part of the project. Related: From Florence Pugh To Zoë Kravitz, Here's All The Celebrities Who Rocked Sheer Or Naked Dresses In fact, as recently as last month, Simone made an appearance in Miami to promote the movie. So, imagine fans' surprise when, just a few weeks later, reports from early screenings suggested that her role was reduced to a seconds-long cameo with no dialogue. Related: Here Are 10 Celebs Who've Publicly Admitted The Reasons Why They Regret Ending Their Marriages The whole thing stirred up a lot of backlash online, sparking discussions about the ways that actors of color have been sidelined in the past. Many fans brought up how all Manny Jacinto's dialogue was cut from Top Gun: Maverick, or how Ambika Mod talked about her post-One Day career versus that of her white costar, Leo Woodall. One widely shared article from Feminegra read: 'This isn't just a disappointment for [Simone's] fans. It's part of a larger, unsettling pattern in Hollywood: casting actors of color with fanfare, then quietly removing them from the spotlight… Simone Ashley's speculated brief appearance in F1 may be brushed off as a creative decision, but it fits too neatly into a wider pattern to ignore.' Amid all this, Simone was noticeably absent from the F1 world premiere in New York last night. But one person who was in attendance was the film's director, Joseph Kosinski, who, as it happens, also made Top Gun: Maverick. When asked by People about Simone's limited role, Joseph confirmed that her storyline was cut from the final edit. 'It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use. There were two or three storylines that ultimately didn't make into the final cut,' he said. 'But Simone, she's an incredible talent, incredible actress, incredible singer, and I would love to work with her again.' Elsewhere at the premiere, Joseph told Entertainment Tonight that he broke the news to Simone himself and confirmed that her storyline was closely linked to Damson's character. The movie doesn't hit theaters in the US until June 27; however, People confirmed that Simone's part is limited to a brief onscreen appearance with 'no lines of dialogue.' Simone has yet to publicly comment on being cut from the film, although during an interview with Elle earlier this month, she did hint that her role was 'very small.' 'I'm grateful to be in that movie,' she told the outlet. 'I got to experience many Grand Prix. I don't think I'll ever do anything like that again.' What do you make of all this?
