Head-spinning historical fiction out this month: The Art Of A Lie by Laura Shepherd-Robinson, Lion Hearts by Dan Jones, Love, Sex & Frankenstein by Caroline Lea
The Art Of A Lie by Laura Shepherd-Robinson (Mantle £18.99, 320pp) Bluffs, double bluffs, twists, turns and emotional upheaval are the disorder of the day in Shepherd-Robinson's deftly plotted fourth novel. Set in the mid-18th century in an upmarket, but financially precarious, confectionery shop in fashionable Piccadilly, it unspools the entwined stories of recently widowed sweet-maker Hannah Cole, who's nursing a dark secret, and the dashing, moneyed gentleman William Devereux, who's not all he seems. The truth is revealed in tantalising snippets as the brilliantly drawn main characters recount their version of events, which include a brutal murder, an inherited fortune in jeopardy, the investigation of magistrate, Henry Fielding, who's on the case of the killer, and the introduction of the sensation of the season – 'iced cream'. This deliciously devious tale of skulduggery, questionable motives and untrustworthy appearances will keep you gripped. Lion Hearts by Dan Jones (Head of Zeus £18.99, 384pp) It's 1350 and the ten comrades in arms from Jones's bold, bloody Essex Dogs and the Wolves of Winter have been winnowed down to a surviving few. Battle scarred, older but not necessarily wiser, they're attempting to find peace, especially leader Loveday, who once made his living 'with his fists, his wits and his short sword' and who's now attempting to keep a failing Winchelsea tavern afloat. But with the Castilians on the horizon, a population devastated by the Black Death and old debts to pay, it's not long before the band are reunited and once again pressed into action. Lion Hearts is a fitting conclusion to this trilogy; a salty, action-packed saga that sees old friends head into the fray. Love, Sex & Frankenstein by Caroline Lea (Michael Joseph £18.99, 400pp) Thrumming with emotion, Lea's retelling of Mary Shelley's dark night of the soul in the summer of 1816 is brimful of love, lust, hate and a strange kind of happiness as she comes up with the idea for her gothic classic Frankenstein. Sequestered in Villa Diodati, by Lake Geneva, the weather is foreboding, the company complicated – Mary is there with her baby son Willmouse, her lover, the feckless poet Shelley, her troubled stepsister Claire Clairmont, the quietly observant Dr Polidori and Lord Byron. In the middle of the mayhem is Mary, who's finding it hard to rein in her feelings, which are as tumultuous as the weather outside.

Francisco Alvarez's Mets return comes with a blueprint to follow

A man named Elven Mantle — 'Mutt' to everybody — drove the 163 miles from Commerce, Okla., to Kansas City, Mo., to join his son, Mickey, for Father-Son Day at Municipal Stadium. But it wasn't exactly a happy occasion. Mantle — whom Casey Stengel had called 'the best ballplayer I've ever seen,' and Stengel had been around pro ballplayers since 1910 — had started hot his rookie season with the Yankees, but by July he'd fallen into an irreversible funk. Stengel sent him down to Triple-A. At first, Mantle's slump became even worse: he started 3-for-18. Even as he caught fire on a three-week road trip, when the Blues returned home, Mickey was deeply depressed. He told his father he wanted to quit.

There's only one comparison for Aaron Judge's takeover of the Yankees record books
Access the Yankees beat like never before Don't miss Greg Joyce's text messages from The Bronx and beyond — he's giving Sports+ subscribers the inside buzz on the Yankees. Sign Up Now On Sept. 24, 1960 — long enough ago that the Dallas Cowboys played their first-ever regular-season game that evening — Mickey Mantle hit a game-deciding, 10th-inning leadoff homer at Fenway Park. That tied him, at 318 homers, on the all-time list with Yogi Berra, who was hitting sixth in the same lineup. On Sept. 28, 1960, Mantle launched two homers off Washington's Chuck Stobbs, the same pitcher who had served up the mythic 565-foot homer that Mantle reputedly hit clear out of Griffith Stadium in 1953. All baseball news that day was secondary to what happened back at Fenway, where 'Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu.' Ted Williams was playing his final major league game. So it was overshadowed that Mantle's second homer and 40th of the season passed Roger Maris for what would be the AL homer title, though Maris would go on to win the league MVP. Mantle's first homer that day gave him 319 for his career and moved him permanently by Berra. And it created a fitting top four all time in Yankee homers: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Mantle. That generally appreciated historic Mount Rushmore for the most historic franchise has remained intact for 64 years and nine-plus months.

Record-breaking Bitcoin soars above $120k - up by more than double from a year ago
Bitcoin climbed above $120,000 to a record high yesterday as investors piled into the world's biggest cryptocurrency. The digital coin rose as high as $123,200 –more than double the $60,000 it was valued at a year ago. The latest rally came as so-called 'crypto week' got underway in the US. This refers to a series of debates taking place in Washington DC that could lay the foundations for a regulatory framework for digital assets. Tim Chen, global head of strategy at financial services firm Mantle, said the discussions should provide investors with 'some semblance of clarity' over the future of crypto – making it more attractive. Bitcoin has rallied strongly since crashing to around $16,000 following the collapse of crypto exchange FTX three years ago. The rally accelerated following the election of Donald Trump as investors and speculators welcomed his pledge to make the US the crypto capital of the world. Josh Fraser, co-founder of decentralised platform Origin Protocol, said: 'Gold has been a primary store of value for hundreds of years, and bitcoin now competes as a better version of gold.' Dan Coatsworth, investment analyst at broker AJ Bell, said: 'Traders are expecting something significant during crypto week. 'Bitcoin has now risen by nearly 10 per cent in just five days. This implies some FOMO – fear of missing out – a trend we've seen plenty of times in the past when bitcoin hit the headlines. Crypto believers are convinced digital assets are the future of finance. While there is certainly momentum in terms of investor, government and corporate interest, it is not a slam dunk. There are still more questions than answers.' Nigel Green, chief executive of financial advisory deVere Group, said he expects bitcoin to hit $125,000 'in the coming days' before moving up to $150,000. 'It's being powered by deep political backing, new regulatory clarity and sustained institutional inflows. This is a powerful combination we haven't seen at this scale before,' he said. 'This is not crypto on the fringe anymore. This is front and centre of US financial policy. Trump is championing it, lawmakers are acting on it and Wall Street is all-in.'

Eight tokens with high potential as Bitcoin price aims for $115,000
Advertorial Spotlight Wire Predicting the future value of any asset is challenging, yet several Bitcoin experts now estimate that a single coin could reach around $115,000 by mid-2025. When Bitcoin moves that much in price, even a small nudge, the rest of the crypto market usually tumbles after or cheers along. This gives memes and newer altcoins a chance to rise and make big profits. Simultaneously, crypto enthusiasts seek new ventures that address genuine problems and have the potential to go viral. The following eight tokens are excellent choices for both new and experienced investors: Little Pepe ($LILPEPE), which is at the top of the list, Mantle (MNT), Ethena (ENA), Kaspa (KAS), Cronos (CRO), Cardano (ADA), Bonk (BONK), and Sui (SUI). Here's why these tokens are poised to capitalise on Bitcoin's rise and generate significant profits. Little Pepe ($LILPEPE): The Meme Coin with Layer-2 Power Little Pepe ($LILPEPE) is a meme coin revolutionising the industry with its Ethereum-based Layer 2 network, designed explicitly for meme projects. It is currently on sale for $0.0011. The built-in meme launchpad is what sets Little Pepe apart. This groundbreaking feature lets new meme projects launch immediately on the Little Pepe ($LILPEPE) chain. It's like a meme factory on steroids: it's decentralised, wild, and powered by frogs. Additionally, the chain itself features anti-sniper bot technology, making it an ideal choice for meme lovers who are wary of being overwhelmed by bots milliseconds after every Little Pepe contest, worth $777,000, is now live. To celebrate the launch of Little Pepe ($LILPEPE), you can enter to win one of ten $77,000 token prizes. This is your chance to join one of the most exciting meme presales of 2025. Its zero-tax methodology is likely to help traders maximise their profits while its anticipated listings on two centralised exchanges, with aspirations for a major exchange like Binance, add to the buzz. Little Pepe ($LILPEPE) is already set to be listed on two of the centralised exchanges (CEXs) upon launch, providing it with significant visibility and trading access at present. Analysts predict that Little Pepe ($LILPEPE) could increase by 100x, and it has already gained significant momentum in its presale's state 2. This makes it a high-risk, high-reward option for the bull run. To get the best pricing, join the presale at Mantle (MNT): The scalable Layer-2 contender Mantle is a high-performance Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain that utilises optimistic rollups to facilitate faster and cheaper transactions. It costs about $0.62. Its modular design isolates transaction execution, data availability, and settlement, which means it may grow without losing security. The mantle is gaining increasing popularity in the fields of decentralised finance (DeFi) and gaming. It is worth $2.11 predict that MNT could benefit from Bitcoin's rise, with prices expected to reach $2.00–$3.00 by mid-2025, representing a 69–78x gain. Investors seeking Layer-2 exposure with lower volatility than meme coins should consider buying it, as it is currently affordable and gaining more partnerships. Ethena (ENA): The stablecoin yield innovator As of this writing, Ethena (ENA) is $0.31. It serves as the basis for a synthetic stablecoin protocol (USDe) that generates revenue using delta-neutral techniques, mitigating cryptocurrencies' volatility. Ethena's innovative approach to stablecoin economics has attracted DeFi enthusiasts, and its market capitalisation is $1.9 billion. The rise of Bitcoin is making DeFi more popular, and ENA might be worth $1.50 to $2.50 by the end of 2025, which would be a 384% to 786% increase. It is an excellent solution for investors seeking safety and growth in a bull market, as it focuses on generating returns and collaborating with major DeFi platforms. Kaspa (KAS): The high-speed Layer-1 dark horse Kaspa is a Layer-1 blockchain that utilises a blockDAG structure to facilitate faster and easier transaction processing and scaling. Right now, it is worth less than $0.08. However, its market value of $2.14 billion implies considerable room for growth, given its current low value. Kaspa competes with Solana because it focuses on fast, decentralised payments. Analysts predict that KAS might reach $1.00 to $2.00 by mid-2025, driven by its applications in payments and DeFi. Kaspa is a good choice for investors who want to bet on new Layer-1s because it is inexpensive and utilises cutting-edge technology. Cronos (CRO): The ecosystem powerhouse Cronos is the native token of the ecosystem and its Layer-1 blockchain, which enables DeFi and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). It costs $0.09. and popular ads (such as FIFA World Cup sponsorships) have made CRO easy to use and have a lot of users (over 80 million). Analysts expect CRO to increase by $0.30 to $0.50, which would supposedly raise the market value to $2.77 billion. Beginners can efficiently utilise CRO because it integrates with app, which offers cashback and staking benefits. CRO is set to grow as Bitcoin drives market sentiment. Cardano (ADA): The research-driven blockchainCardano is a Layer-1 blockchain that costs about $0.65. The new Hydra version makes it easier to scale, allowing DeFi apps and NFT projects to move faster. The network is currently valued at approximately $23.1 billion on the market. Analysts predict that ADA will be worth between $1.50 and $2.00 by the start of 2026, as more people begin to adopt it in new locations, such as Africa. Cardano is a good choice for investors who want to follow the Bitcoin trend because it offers staking perks at a lower cost. Bonk (BONK): The Solana-based meme coin Bonk is a meme coin that runs on the Solana blockchain. The market is worth $1.26 billion, and each unit costs $0.000015. It gives Dogecoin's community spirit a fresh look. Non-fungible tokens and DeFi have gained popularity due to their compatibility with Solana's fast and cost-effective environment. Given this context, BONK could be worth anywhere from $0.0001 to $0.0003. If you put in $1,200 (50 million tokens), your money might rise to anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000, although investors must exercise caution as the market can swing anytime. That said, many people who like meme coins choose BONK because it's inexpensive. Sui (SUI): The next-gen Layer-1 innovator Sui is a Layer-1 blockchain that competes with Solana and Aptos. It costs $3.12 and is designed for high throughput and low latency. Its object-oriented architecture makes it easy to build scalable DeFi and gaming apps. The fact that it has a market capitalisation of $10.61 billion indicates that investors are interested in it. SUI could go up to $4.00 to $6.00 as Bitcoin's rise makes people more likely to use altcoins. Investors looking to get into next-generation blockchains should consider Sui due to its advanced technological capabilities and growing Pepe ($LILPEPE), Mantle, Ethena, Kaspa, Cronos, Cardano, Bonk, and Sui are all poised to deliver substantial profits as Bitcoin targets $115,000 by mid-2025. Little Pepe ($LILPEPE) is in the lead with its meme-based Layer-2 invention, which could turn $1,200 into $1.635 million by Kaspa, Cardano, and Sui all offer blockchain solutions that can grow with your needs. Ethena offers DeFi yield stability, and Bonk and Cronos combine ease of use with growth potential. For those interested, Little Pepe ($LILPEPE) is on X and Telegram.
