Rahul, Pradhan spar over ‘vacant' reserved varsity teaching posts
After LS Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi flagged vacancies in teaching positions for SC, ST, and OBC categories in central universities Friday and referred to it as a 'planned conspiracy', Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hit out saying the Centre has increased the number of teaching positions in the past 10 years. Citing data presented in response to a question in the RS Wednesday, Gandhi said on X: 'Data presented by the Modi government in Parliament is evidence of the deprivation of Bahujans and institutionalized Manuvad.' Stating that these posts 'are deliberately kept vacant', Gandhi said: 'This is not mere negligence but a well-planned conspiracy—to keep Bahujans out of education, research, and policymaking.' 'In the name of NFS (Not Found Suitable), thousands of qualified SC, ST, OBC candidates are being declared unfit under a Manuvadi mindset, and the government is unwilling to take any accountability. This is completely unacceptable,' he said. Around 80% of posts sanctioned in central universities for professors under the OBC category, 83% in the ST category, and 64% in the SC category remain vacant, the RS was informed. In response, Pradhan said Friday: 'Rahul Gandhi has raised the matter of 'not found suitable.' In 2019, the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Act was passed. For the first time in independent India, reservation for SC/ST/OBC categories in the posts of assistant prof, associate prof, and prof was ensured through an Act. The Act also says that if a suitable person is not found, the post won't cease to exist or lapse.' 'I would like to ask Rahul Gandhi… in their (Congress) tenure how many posts were converted into 'general' category where candidates were 'not found suitable.' And in Modi's tenure… not even one has been converted,' he said.

Mohan Bhagwat & BJP questioned quotas uncomfortable with social justice, says Siddaramaiah
Live Events (You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and BJP leaders questioned the legitimacy and duration of reservations in a sign of their core discomfort with social justice and with an intent to dismantle constitutional safeguards for backward classes The BJP-RSS ideology doesn't seek to dismantle the caste hierarchy, instead it seeks to sanctify it, the CM said, speaking at the Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan organized by the AICC in New Delhi. 'Their (BJP-RSS) dream is a hierarchy where silence is loyalty and injustice is tradition.'Even today, Siddaramaiah said one hears of 'merit' as if it were born in a vacuum. 'What chance does the child of a laundry worker have against the son of an upper-caste landlord or a crony capitalist? The game was rigged before it began…This caste-driven inequality is not just economic but also a socially structured violence. For centuries, millions of children never saw a classroom, not because they lacked talent, but because the system deemed them invisible.'Stepping up his attack on the BJP-RSS combine, the CM said from Golwalkar's rejection of caste-based affirmative action to the RSS calling Mandal a 'caste war,' their ideology mirrored Manu Vadi and Social Darwinist thinking, where only the dominant deserved to thrive.'Our dreams must be different. We must build an India where birth does not define destiny, where Utpadaka Varga (blue-collared workers) are not forgotten, but honoured, and where justice is not delayed by design, but delivered by Constitutional Democracy,' Siddaramaiah who rose the political ladder campaigning the issues focused on minorities, OBCs and Dalits (Ahinda).RSS-BJP's Manuvadi worldview is Social Darwinism in disguise, but our Constitution promises not survival of the fittest, but justice for the weakest. 'Hence, I call for the protection of our Constitution. Only through the protection of the Constitution can we realise true social justice and equity.'In Karnataka, the state government has built hostels, coaching centres and introduced scholarships, skill programs, and reservations for contract workers and in allotment of industrial plots for backward class entrepreneurs. 'But the BJP and RSS, driven by Manuvadi and Social Darwinist ideas, oppose these reforms, not because they lack merit, but because they fear equality.'BJP's slogans, Siddaramaiah said, masked its ideological discomfort with social justice. From Agnipath to privatisation, their policies bypass CM said he supported a nationwide caste census , political reservation, proportionate (75%) representation, educational empowerment, economic opportunities, and social awareness as essential pillars for the upliftment of our backward classes.

'My regret is ... ': Rahul Gandhi admits failure in understanding OBC plight; reflects on past 'mistakes'
NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed regret over his inability to understand the plight of oppressed classes, saying that he "made a mistake" and "didn't protect the OBCs" like he "should have". Speaking at Congress' 'Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan' in the national capital, he said, "I have been in politics since I look back, I can see that I made a mistake. I didn't protect the OBCs like I should was because I could not understand your issues in depth at that time." "My regret is that if I had known about your (OBC) history, about your issues, even a little more, I would have conducted a Caste Census right at that time. It is a mistake I made. It is not Congress party's mistake, it is my mistake. I am going to rectify that mistake," he added. Gandhi's politics has centered around raising voice for the oppressed classes, especially SCs, STs and the OBCs, including a call for caste-based census. Earlier in the day, he targeted the PM Modi government of "deliberately" marginalizing Bahujans (SC, ST, and OBC communities) in higher education by keeping a large percentage of reserved faculty positions vacant in central universities. Similarly, associate professor posts for - ST: 65% - OBC: 69% - SC: 51% have also been left unfilled," he said in a post on X. "This is not mere negligence but a calculated conspiracy to exclude Bahujans from education, research, and lack of adequate participation of Bahujans in universities ensures that the issues faced by marginalised communities are deliberately excluded from research and the guise of NFS (Not Found Suitable), thousands of qualified SC, ST, and OBC candidates are being declared unfit due to Manuvadi ideology, and the government refuses to take any is utterly unacceptable. All vacant posts must be filled immediately—Bahujans deserve their rights, not Manuvadi exclusion," he added.

Sharana philosophy is the cure for all ills of society, says Shivaraj Tangadagi
Some BJP leaders are spreading lies against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by twisting his anti-war statements, Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi said in Kudala Sangama on Wednesday. 'Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is trying to follow the philosophy of Basavanna and Sharanas in word and deed. He favours peace, stability and all-round progress. It is in this context that he made his statement against war. But some BJP leaders are trying to spread lies against him and engage in propaganda. They are questioning his patriotism. This is condemnable,' he said. 'However, it does not affect the Chief Minister at all. He needs no lessons on patriotism and self-respect. He knows the designs of such vested interests who are spoiling the minds of the youth. We need to protect them from propaganda. All of us should stay away from Manuvadi forces that are damaging the fabric of society,' the Minister said. Mr. Tangadagi said that Sharana philosophy is the cure for all ills of society. 'If we properly implement Basavanna's philosophy, all the problems of India will disappear. We need to understand, follow it and spread the good word,' he said.
