OnePlus Nord 5 review in 10 points: Best smartphone to buy under Rs 40,000?

The OnePlus Nord 5 is available for sale in India, starting at Rs 31,999. Now, some users might have already made up their minds to go with it. A few might have even pre-booked the phone. But then there are others who are still in the SWOT analysis phase, wondering whether the new Nord is the right pick for them. This piece is for them: to help make this decision a little our in-depth review, we have already shared a comprehensive take on how the Nord 5 performs. In short, we were genuinely impressed. The phone shines all bright as far as performance and battery life are concerned. Then there is some more goodness, as well as some areas which could have been better. You can read our full review here: OnePlus Nord 5 review: True value for money phone with slick performance and long-lasting if you are a little short on time and just want a quick rundown of what the Nord 5 is all about, here is a concise 10-point summary. Point 1: Fresh design that feels premiumLook at the phone, and you will see the change. OnePlus has experimented with the design of its Nord series quite a lot this time. We reviewed the white colour variant which the company calls Marble Sands. The back of the phone has plastic build but features this premium looking matte look which has glittery shine to it. The camera island is in the vertical alignment and houses the two camera sensors and LED light. Point 2: Strong and sturdyThe phone weighs 211g and measures 0.81cm in thickness. With a height of 16.34cm and a width of 7.70cm, it's not exactly compact. However, it is lightweight for its size, resistant to fingerprints, and features a new 'Plus' key that you can customise to your liking. And yes, it is also water and dust resistant, carrying an IP65 3: Big, bold, beautiful displayOn the front, the Nord 5 features a large 6.83-inch AMOLED screen which offers vibrant colours, up to 144Hz refresh rate, and 1,800 nits peak brightness. The display looks sharp, feels fluid while scrolling, and is comfortable to use even under bright sunlight. One word on. That 144Hz refresh rate: you might not hit the highest in every app yet because that depends on apps, and very few support it at the moment. In fact, the best we saw in the apps was 120 frames per second while scrolling quickly through Instagram. But it is good to know that higher refresh rate is available. Overall, the display quality is 4: Fast and smooth everyday performanceThe OnePlus Nord 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip. The chipset is all capable of handling multitasking, gaming, and video playback without skipping a beat. In my use the device worked all smooth, lag-free, and didn't even heat up all that alarmingly. I found the vapour cooling system works well. Here are some benchmarks: OnePlus 5 Nord 5 benchmarks results Point 5: Clean and responsive softwareThe Nord 5 runs on OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15. The UI is also smooth, vibrant, and customisable. There are a few preinstalled apps, but nothing too annoying—and most can be removed. Point 6: OpenPlus AIThe phone also offers a range of on-device AI features, including photo editing tools, live translation, and call summaries — all of which are both fun and genuinely useful. Then there is also access to Google's Gemini AI, which can handle more complex tasks with 7. Battery that just won't quitThe OnePlus Nord 5 comes packed with a 6800mAh battery. This big battery manages to fuel up the devices for around 2 days. In my use the battery easily went through one and a half to two days of normal usage. Even with heavy use—gaming, video streaming, and browsing—it holds up 8: Faster charging Topping up the big battery isn't a hassle either. The Nord 5 supports 80W fast charging. It takes roughly 2 hours to fully charge the device, making it convenient for daily use without long waiting times. Point 9: Loud and clear stereo speakersThe stereo speakers on the Nord 5 are also crisp, balanced, and loud enough to watch movies or listen to songs. Even at full volume, there is minimal 10: Reliable camera in daylightThe 50-megapixel main camera clicks good photos in daylight with natural colours, balanced exposure, and quick shutter response. Portraits come out especially well, with solid edge detection. The front 50-megapixel camera is also great for selfies when lighting is good. It's more than enough for daily sharing. However, the camera does struggle a tiny bit in low light. In darker conditions, the main sensor softens up details and struggles to maintain sharpness. Also, the wide-angle camera is not all that great, it is just passable. Final verdict: Is Nord 5 one the best phone under Rs 40,000? It is definitely one of the best, but not the outright best. Competition is tough in this segment. If your budget is under Rs 40,000 and you want a phone that delivers flagship-level performance, great battery life, and a clean user experience, the OnePlus Nord 5 is hard to beat. While the camera setup is not the best we have seen in this range, everything else just clicks perfectly. For power users, casual gamers, and everyday users alike, OnePlus Nord 5 is a solid recommendation from us. - Ends

OnePlus Nord 5 Prioritizes Power Over Personality

OnePlus Nord 5 in Marble Sands color The OnePlus Nord 5 aims to deliver 'flagship features without the flagship price tag.' It is the first Nord phone to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8-series chipset and adds a few other top-of-the-line elements from the OnePlus 13 series to a more affordable price tag. But to do that, OnePlus had to move away from Nord 4's distinguished look and all-metal body design. OnePlus' new Nord 5 looks like any other phone on the market. One can confuse the Dry Ice and Phantom Grey color variants for a Galaxy A-series phone, while the Marble Sands model tries to stand out with a textured look. Its platinum white body features a textured finish that shimmers subtly depending on the light source's angle. It reminds me of the OnePlus 11 Marble Odyssey Edition's box. OnePlus Nord 5 screen The OnePlus Nord 5 is a big phone. It is both tall and wide, which isn't the best for the ergonomics of a flat-sided phone. At 211 grams, it isn't a heavy phone, but it feels heavier than the on-paper number. If you can get used to it, you're greeted by a large 6.83-inch AMOLED with support for a 1.5K (FHD+) resolution and up to a 144Hz refresh rate. It is sharp, bright, and vivid, and lies under the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The new Nord phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, which is a generation-old Snapdragon 8s-series SoC. The Poco F7 is in a similar price bracket and sports the latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 prowess. The Nord 5, however, offers a more intuitive user experience. It is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. OnePlus Nord 5 camera samples The Nord 5 sports a dual rear camera setup. It is led by the same 50MP Sony LYT-700 main sensor as the OnePlus 13. It is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide camera with support for macro photos. The colors are saturated and social media-friendly, and you can get photos like above with a couple of quick edits in the default Photos app. It also supports Live Photo with HDR, which can be great for when you need short videos out of still photos. But it tends to mess up the background in photos shot at 3x or above. The same images shot with Live Photo toggle turned off deliver better results. On the front, you get a 50MP Samsung JN5 sensor that takes good-looking selfies. OnePlus Nord 4 and OnePlus Nord 5 The OnePlus Nord 5 runs OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15, with a suite of AI features, including the Plus Mind from the OnePlus 13s. You get the Plus Key instead of an Alert Slider, which can be used to access Plus Mind or trigger certain functions with a press-and-hold. Other AI features include AI Search, Call Assistant, Translation, VoiceScribe, Google Gemini, and more. Some of these are useful, while others remain a gimmick. The Nord 5 packs a massive 6,800mAh battery with 80W fast charging support. It'll last you an entire day easily. The phone also supports a bypass charging feature that allows it to draw power directly from the charger instead of routing it through the battery. This is said to reduce heat generation, ease battery strain, and extend long-term battery lifespan. OnePlus Nord 5's price in India starts at INR 31,999 for the base 8GB RAM / 256GB storage model and goes up to INR 37,999 for the 12GB RAM / 512GB storage variant. The 12GB / 256GB model will cost you INR 34,999.

OnePlus Nord 5 in for review

Today we have with us the new OnePlus Nord 5, which is the latest mainline entry in the company's affordable series of smartphones. The phone is set to launch next week alongside the Nord CE5 and today we can share a sneak peek at the device with an unboxing. Starting with the packaging, the Nord 5 comes in a typical blue box that we have come to expect from Nord devices. Also typical for a Nord box is the fact that there is no mention of the exact model number on the front, which makes it look identical to other Nord boxes until you turn them around. Inside the box you will find the phone, an 80W fast charger, and a USB cable for data and charging. OnePlus also includes a silicone case in dark gray. Our review unit comes in the Marble Sands finish, which features light champagne gold frame and a glass back. The back panel has a very interesting pattern etched into it that invokes the creases and bumps in the surface of marble and almost looks three-dimensional with the way it plays with light. It's a fantastic look that proved to be very challenging to capture on camera and has to be seen in person to be properly appreciated. However, while the back of the phone is this very exotic glass, the frame is made out of plastic. This feels like a downgrade from Nord 4, which was made out of a single, solid slab of aluminum and felt very premium. You may have also noticed that the Nord 5 has a vertical camera arrangement on the back. The Nord 4 used a horizontal layout but the Nord 5 reverts to the vertical layout that all other Nord phones have used over the years. The Nord 5 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, making it the first Nord phone to have a flagship-grade chip. It also features a 50MP Sony LYT-700 camera with OIS on the back and a 50MP camera Samsung JN5 camera with autofocus on the front. The display also supports up to 144Hz refresh rate in games like BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile. More details on the device will be revealed when it launches next week on July 8. Stay tuned for our full review.
