MotoGP German GP: Marc Marquez snatches sprint glory from Marco Bezzecchi
Marc Marquez overtook Marco Bezzecchi on the final lap of a damp and dramatic sprint race to win at the Sachsenring on Saturday. It was Marc's 10th sprint win out of a possible 11 in 2025, having missed out only at the British Grand Prix in May. Advertisement While Marquez stretched his championship lead over brother Alex (riding with a hand injury) with yet another sprint victory, his team-mate Francesco Bagnaia could not add to his tally after finishing a lowly 12th. Factory Ducati rider Marquez made an outstanding start from pole position, only to throw it all away by braking too late for the first corner. That put him back to fifth place – but the mistake served only to set the stage for a perfectly timed recovery ride. Racing on a wet but drying circuit on which leaving the tried-and-trusted line was particularly perilous, not even Marquez was able to shoot back from the early mistake in his usual fast and emphatic fashion. The Spaniard needed every one of the 15 laps to fight his way past first Johann Zarco (LCR Honda), then Fabio di Giannantonio's VR46 Ducati and the Yamaha of Fabio Quartararo, before finally getting a good look at Bezzecchi's Aprilia on the last tour. Marquez made his move under braking for Turn 1. Although he struggled to get the bike stopped, giving Bezzecchi hope that the move would not stick, he managed to get it back onto the racing line in time for Turn 2. From there, it was game over as the Sachsenring maestro built up a small lead that would see him through the rest of the lap. Advertisement While it was heartache for the resurgent Bezzecchi in Germany, this was his third consecutive top-three finish following his pair of third places last time out in the Netherlands. Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia Racing Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia Racing Quartararo also managed his afternoon well to see off a late threat from di Giannantonio, who had to make do with fourth place. Di Giannantonio's VR46 Ducati team-mate Franco Morbidelli ran second behind Bezzecchi for the first two laps of the race before crashing out in frightening fashion at Turn 8 on lap three. Damp-weather fan Jack Miller came through to finish fifth for Pramac Yamaha, with Brad Binder scoring an encouraging sixth for KTM. Advertisement Zarco dropped back down the field following his decision to run the same medium rear compound that had earned him a front-row grid spot earlier in the day. The pace came to him too late in the race, bringing about a mild recovery to seventh place. Injured Alex Marquez stayed out of trouble to finish eighth ahead of Pedro Acosta, who recovered to snatch the last point after running off the road when placed fourth midway through the race. Alex's two points mean that he achieved his goal of stretching his advantage over Bagnaia in the points race, in which he lies second. After failing to score thanks to his humiliating 12th place, Bagnaia is now 60 points behind Alex in third. Marc, meanwhile, continues his serene progress at the top of the table, and will head into Sunday 78 points clear of his brother. Ducati's Marquez wins wet German GP sprint despite bad start
Ducati's Marc Marquez overcame a nightmare start to snatch a dramatic last-lap victory in treacherous, wet conditions to claim a record-breaking 10th sprint win of the MotoGP season at the German Grand Prix on Saturday. The Ducati rider had plummeted to fourth after going wide at turn one despite securing a seventh pole position of the season, but he mounted a masterful comeback before overtaking Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi on the final lap. Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo finished third to complete the podium while VR46 Racing's Fabio Di Giannantonio and Pramac Racing's Jack Miller rounded out the top five. The victory saw Marquez become the first rider to win 10 sprints in a season as he extended his championship lead to 78 points over his brother Alex, who finished eighth. "In the beginning of the race, I was struggling. I did a mistake on turn one, the exit on the start. And then I lost some positions," Marquez said. "But then, step-by-step I got the rhythm, like in the practice... I'm happy because we take 12 points again in the sprint. But if tomorrow is wet (during the race), we need to brake a bit more before overtaking somebody." Marquez shot off the line with what seemed like a dream getaway, only to surrender the lead immediately as he went wide on turn one and fell to fourth while Bezzecchi seized control. As Marquez looked to move up the pack, he had Di Giannantonio to contend with as the VR46 Racing rider overtook him twice in a dogged battle for fourth place. Di Giannantonio's teammate Franco Morbidelli had moved up to second but he crashed heavily on lap four and the Italian rider was thrown off his bike and sent tumbling across the gravel. Morbidelli was diagnosed with a severe contusion to the left collarbone and was taken to hospital for further checks. As Marquez picked up the pace, he battled past Di Giannantonio and then set his sights on Quartararo, who had made a brilliant start despite being seventh on the grid. But Marquez was soon setting fastest laps and he quickly found his way past Quartararo on lap nine, nearly losing control of his rear tyre before recovering his balance to stay in second. Bezzecchi still held a lead of more than a second to Marquez but the Ducati rider was determined to reel in the Aprilia as he piled the pressure on the Italian sprint leader. Like a hunter stalking his prey, Marquez closed in and waited for the right moment to pounce - on the start-finish straight on the final lap. He used the Aprilia's slipstream to surge ahead before retaining his lead on the following turns to take the chequered flag. "Very happy to lead the race after such a long time," Bezzecchi said.

Bezzecchi ends victory drought in spectacular British MotoGP
Marco Bezzecchi has won a chaotic British Grand Prix for Aprilia's first victory of the 2025 season in a race that was initially red-flagged for an oil spill as riders crashed or retired while in the lead, including pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo. The victory was a first for Aprilia since the Grand Prix of the Americas last year. LCR Honda's Johann Zarco came second on Sunday and Ducati's Marc Marquez pipped Franco Morbidelli to finish third and extend his lead in the riders world championship. Both Alex Marquez and his brother Marc crashed while leading before the race was restarted for an oil spill while Yamaha's Quartararo took the lead at the second time of asking before being forced to retire on lap 12 due to a technical issue with his bike. Bezzecchi's victory was his first since the 2023 Indian Grand Prix, and the Italian also became the 11th different winner at Silverstone in the past 11 races. 'It's amazing. It has been a really tough time for me in this past month. … Aprilia trusted in me, and we worked really hard,' Bezzecchi said. 'The team made a wonderful job. … I was waiting for a day like this since my last win.' On the first start, sprint winner Alex Marquez had a perfect launch to take the lead from Quartararo, but just as he leaned into turn one, he lost control and crashed, allowing Marc Marquez to take the lead. The elder Marquez also lost control, however, and crashed out of the lead – but the Marquez brothers earned a reprieve when the red flag came out for an oil spill in the final sector after Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro collided and crashed. Since three laps had not been completed, all riders were eligible for the restart. Quartararo took the lead from Francesco Bagnaia and streaked away to a full second's lead on the opening lap. Both factory Ducatis suffered on lap three at Copse corner when they went wide as Marc Marquez and Bagnaia dropped to ninth and 10th place. Bagnaia's race ended on the following lap when he crashed while Bezzecchi moved up to third behind Pramac Racing's Jack Miller. Behind them, Marc Marquez was a man on a mission as he methodically picked his way through the pack, and by lap 11, he had moved up to fourth. Yamaha's dreams of taking the chequered flag went up in smoke as Quartararo signalled he had a problem with his bike, and the Frenchman relinquished his lead of nearly five seconds as his ride-height device had failed. Quartararo stopped by the side of the track, hopped off his bike and sank to his knees with his head on the tarmac as the shell-shocked Yamaha garage looked on. 'When I saw Fabio with a technical problem, I even thought about a victory,' said Zarco, the first Honda rider to take back-to-back podiums since Marc Marquez in 2021. Bezzecchi held on to win, though, while Marc Marquez swapped places with VR46 Racing's Franco Morbidelli several times on the final lap before taking third in a photo finish. 'Today we were lucky because I made a mistake,' said a fuming Marc Marquez, who now leads his brother by 24 points in the world championship.
