The campaign, hosted on July 5 at Benmore Shopping Centre, aimed to collect prom-related items such as dresses, suits, shoes, accessories, and beauty products to help these learners attend their matric ball with confidence and pride.
The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Crawford International Sandton and Benmore Shopping Centre, in partnership with The Black Coffee Foundation, Boston Media House, and the Epic Foundation.
Crawford International Sandton project manager Shakti Maharaj said: 'The initiative underscores the importance of community engagement in creating memorable experiences for youths, especially those who might otherwise face barriers to participating fully in such milestone events.
'It's truly inspiring to see people coming together to support these students. Events like this remind us of the power of kindness and how collective effort can make a real difference in young lives.'
Fidelitas Comprehensive School teacher Marcus Mabunda said: 'We are very thankful to the sponsors who made sure the dreams of our learners came true. Supporting our youth in reaching their dreams is essential.
'Matric balls are more than just celebrations; they're milestones that boost confidence and create lasting memories.'
One of the learners, Baloyi Tintswalo, expressed her gratitude over the support from Crawford and all the sponsors. 'I never thought I would get the chance to attend my matric dance, because of my family's financial situation. Thanks to everyone who made my dream come true. I now feel confident and ready to shine on my special night.'
