After a visit to the White House, the Red Sox have been in command, and other thoughts
So. Much. Winning. Back in the 1980s, Globe teammate Kevin Paul Dupont dubbed Hartford's NHL team Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Until now. Advertisement Anchored by Garrett Crochet, Brayan Bello, and Lucas Giolito, the rotation is clicking. Boston's lineup just scored 100 runs in a dozen games. Kids Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Marcelo Mayer (they knocked in all four runs Thursday) have given the locals an infusion of enthusiasm and offense. Trevor Story is finally playing like the guy the Sox thought they were getting when they signed him 3½ years ago. Aroldis Chapman has been dominant at the back end of the bullpen. The Sox even managed to win a one-run game (4-3) with only four hits Thursday. Advertisement 'We've been playing good baseball for a while now,'' manager Alex Cora said after the thrilling series-opener victory. And now they are getting team leader Alex Bregman (quad) back after a six-week hiatus. Since 2020 the Sox have one playoff appearance and three last-place finishes — annually selling the illusion of contention in a watered-down postseason format (six of 15 teams qualify in each league) that makes it almost impossible not to be in contention in July/August. Dare we speculate that this cycle of abject mediocrity is about to change? Are the '25 Red Sox going to do what the '22, '23 and '24 Sox could not do? Are they finally going to make significant additions at the deadline, roar into a wild-card spot, and play deep into October? If the Sox make a big run, I'm expecting our commander in chief to take credit. It's going to be noted that the Sox' winning streak started the day after their visit in the Oval Office. It was one of the strangest, least-publicized sideshows in Boston sports history. On a off day when a bunch of players opted for a White House tour, 10 of them wound up saying hello to the President. A video posted on X by White House press assistant Margo Martin shows Story, Justin Wilson, Abraham Toro, Romy Gonzalez, Connor Wong, Greg Weissert, Wilyer Abreu, Garrett Whitlock, Brennan Bernardino, and Rob Refsnyder, casually dressed, parading through the Oval Office, shaking hands with the President, who greeted them while standing behind his desk. There was a hilarious moment when Bernardino introduced himself and Trump said, 'I know that.'' (Another whopper from No. 47.) Advertisement President — Margo Martin (@MargoMartin47) The Red Sox PR staff made no mention of the Trump encounter in the the next day's notes. NESN played the video in its pregame show, but folks in the booth didn't talk about the presidential encounter during the three games broadcast from D.C. over the weekend. If was as if it never happened — sort of like the Loch Ness Monster meeting Keyser Soze in Area 51. But it happened. And then the Red Sox ripped off their longest winning streak in more than two years. They got to feast on Tomato Cans from Washington and Colorado. The Nationals fired their GM and manager within minutes after getting swept by the Sox and the Rockies are going to be the worst team of the last 125 years. Then came Thursday when Cash lifted a stellar starter who'd just retired 10 of 11 and had a 3-1 lead after six. So. Much. Winning. Trump's glamorous right hand woman gives behind-the-scenes access to her life with president
Donald Trump 's glamorous aide, Margo Martin, gave an inside look at her busy life with the president in a new Instagram post. Martin, 29, has been a longtime aide to the president and serves as his Special Assistant and Communications Advisor. She was propelled into the spotlight when a reporter mistook her for Melania Trump at one of the president's Miami court hearings in 2023 and has been a staple in the president's entourage since he started his second term. Martin detailed her jam-packed schedule working for the president in a new video posted on Sunday. 'DAY IN THE LIFE! 5.30am-1.30am in 50 seconds,' she captioned the video that's paired with the song 'Walking on a Dream' by electronic duo Empire of the Sun. 'Thursday, July 3rd, President Trump met with Edan Alexander, American citizen held hostage by Hamas for 584 days. Welcomed the Boston Red Sox to the Oval Office. Traveled to Des Moines, Iowa to kick off a yearlong celebration of America's 250th anniversary.' Martin started the day with a workout at the gym, wearing a black tank top and leggings paired with yellow trainers and her long blonde hair pulled back by a claw clip. She appeared to be drinking from a LIFEWTR Premium Purified Water Bottle, which sells for approximately $2.50, as she walked on the treadmill with her AirPods in. After the gym, Martin prepared herself a cup of coffee in her red Camp David mug using a white single-serve Keurig machine. She did her morning skincare while wearing an orange lobster and bows printed pajama set that retails for $86 on In My Sundays. Martin applied the Dior Backstage Blush to her cheeks, which cost $42 at Sephora and Ulta Beauty. She gave her hair some soft waves using a curling iron, then changed into a dress with a blue top and denim skirt before heading to the White House. The glamourous aide showed viewers around her office, including her desk and giant tumbler cup with the presidential seal. A framed copy Trump's mugshot on the front page of the New York Post was also on display. Martin then captured the president and first lady welcoming Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage in Gaza, who was released in May, to the White House. Afterwards, Martin showed Trump meeting with the struggling Boston Red Sox before heading out on Air Force One. Martin sat next to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Air Force One and ate a salad for lunch She show Trump dancing on stage at the Iowa State Fairgrounds to kick off the 'America 250' celebration She sat with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on the flight to Des Moines to promote his 'Big Beautiful Bill.' For lunch, Martin ate salad topped with steak, hard-boiled eggs, red onion, cucumbers, corn, olives, and a creamy dressing, as well as a fruit tart for dessert. She showed Trump dancing on stage at the Iowa State Fairgrounds to kick off the 'America 250' celebration. Martin treated herself to a lemonade from Campbell's Corn Dog stand before Trump and his team headed back to Air Force One. The team watched Fox News, and Martin dined on another dessert tart, a bowl of ice cream with one scoop of chocolate and one of vanilla, along with an arugula salad. A Liquid IV packet was also on Martin's plate. After landing back in Washington, DC, Martin showed Trump speaking to reporters along since DHS Secretary Kristi Noem before wrapping up their day.

Karoline Leavitt weighs in on the Trump-Musk feud
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made it clear that she's team Trump amid the president's nasty public break-up with Elon Musk. One week before, she and longtime Trump aide Margo Martin had posed in the Tesla that's parked outside the White House, which the president said he was purchasing as Musk's electric car company was taking a hit over his MAGA ties and work at DOGE. But on Thursday Leavitt shared one of Trump's Truth Social messages the president dished out about Musk - after first taking on the Tesla and SpaceX CEO in an Oval Office meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Trump had written, 'I don't mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago.' 'This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress. It's a Record Cut in Expenses, $1.6 Trillion Dollars, and the Biggest Tax Cut ever given. If this Bill doesn't pass, there will be a 68% Tax Increase, and things far worse than that,' Trump wrote. 'I didn't create this mess, I'm just here to FIX IT. This puts our Country on a Path of Greatness. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!' the president added. Musk's spat with Trump got so brutal on Thursday that he claimed that the president 'is in the Epstein files' - attempting to connect the commander-in-chief with the serial [expletive] who died in prison in 2019. Leavitt pushed back on that too, telling the Daily Mail in a statement: 'This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted. The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again,' Leavitt added. Trump didn't directly respond to Musk's Epstein charge, instead posting the Truth Social message that Leavitt shared. Later Trump ignored shouted questions from reporters on Musk's Epstein charge as he hosted the National Fraternal Order of Police executive board in the State Dining Room. A source familiar pointed out to the Daily Mail that 'everyone knows President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his Palm Beach Golf Club.' 'The Administration itself released Epstein files with the President's name included. This is not a new surprise Elon is uncovering. Everyone already knew this,' the source continued. The source also mused, 'If Elon truly thought the President was more deeply involved with Epstein, why did he hangout with him for 6 months and say he "loves him as much as a straight man can love a straight man?"' The Musk-Trump break-up had started over the bill, which is now going through the U.S. Senate, which Musk complained added to the deficit and reversed the work he had done leading DOGE, the Trump-created Department of Government Efficiency. But it quickly turned personal once Trump floated that he wasn't sure the relationship between the two billionaires could be saved. 'Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will any more, I was surprised,' Trump told reporters as he was seated alongside Germany's leader. The president suggested that Musk was angry - not over the bill ballooning the deficit - but because the Trump administration has pulled back on electric vehicle mandates, which negatively impacted Tesla , and replaced the Musk-approved nominee to lead NASA , which could hinder SpaceX's government contracts. Musk then posted that Trump would have lost the 2024 election had it not been for the world's richest man - him. 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,' Musk claimed. 'Such ingratitude,' the billionaire added. After the Oval Office meeting Trump took to Truth Social Thursday afternoon and asserted that he had asked Musk to leave his administration and said the billionaire went 'CRAZY!' 'Elon was "wearing thin," I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!' Trump wrote. The president then threatened to pull SpaceX and Tesla's government contracts. 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!' Trump wrote. It ratcheted up even more, with Musk saying he could decommission the only rocket ships that are currently hauling U.S. astronauts and their supplies to the International Space Station. Musk also made the Epstein charge and later said he would back Trump's impeachment, saying he was for Vice President J.D. Vance taking the president's place. Steve Bannon, a longtime adviser of Trump and a leader of the MAGA movement, pushed that the South African-born Musk be investigated - and maybe even deported. Last Friday, Trump had heralded Musk in the Oval Office, gifting him a golden key and giving him a send-off from DOGE, as the billionaire headed back into the private sector. As Thursday evening approached, Trump's Tesla remained parked on West Executive Avenue, just steps away from the West Wing.

US President Donald Trump gets 'one drop of oil' as gift from UAE; his reaction goes viral: ‘I'm not thrilled'
Donald Trump has wrapped up his Middle East visit, ending his tour in the United Arab Emirates on Friday. But before boarding his flight back to the United States, he received a rather unique farewell gift – a single drop of Murban crude oil, the UAE's top-tier petroleum. The moment quickly went viral online, thanks to Trump's classic quip. In a video shared by his communications advisor Margo Martin, Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE's minister of industry and advanced technology and CEO of ADNOC, is seen handing Trump a sleek capsule containing the oil. Murban is known for being one of the highest-quality crude oils in the world, extracted from a massive oil field that dates back to 1958 and currently producing about two million barrels a day. Trump, never one to miss a chance to entertain, looks into the camera and says with a grin, 'This is one drop of oil.' Then, pausing for effect, he says, 'The highest-quality oil there is on the planet, and they only gave me a drop of it. So, I'm not thrilled… But it's better than no drop.' The dry humor and deadpan delivery turned the clip into an instant social media sensation. 'The highest quality oil there is on the planet and they only gave me a drop of it…so I'm not thrilled!' 🤣 — Margo Martin (@MargoMartin47) May 16, 2025 The symbolic gesture came at the close of a four-day tour that focused heavily on energy cooperation. Sultan Al Jaber also highlighted a major joint initiative between the US and Gulf countries – a $440 billion investment in the energy sector planned through 2035. The announcement fits into Trump's broader push to secure big-ticket business deals during his time in the region. But this wasn't the only viral moment from Trump's trip. His arrival in the UAE sparked a buzz online as well, after a group of Emirati girls welcomed him with the traditional 'Al-Ayyala' dance – known for its synchronized hair flips. Social media users couldn't resist chiming in, with one X user joking, 'Yeh kya darawlvana welcome hai' (What a scary welcome).
