Crude palm oil worth millions seized as smuggling ring busted in Sabah
LAHAD DATU: The marine police busted a crude palm oil (CPO) misappropriation syndicate following a raid on an illegal facility at Batu 15, Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan yesterday.
The operation, which took place around 12.50pm, led to the seizure of 77,590kg of crude palm oil, two lorries, a van, and a storage tank — with the total value of the confiscated items estimated at RM2.28 million.
Sabah Marine Police Region 4 Commander Assistant Commissioner Nazri Ibrahim said six people, including a foreigner aged between 20 and 53, were arrested to assist in investigations.
"The case is being investigated under Regulation 5(1)(b) of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Regulations 2005.
"The estimated total value of the seizure is RM2,287,332," he said in a statement today.
Nazri said the bust marks another major success for the marine police in curbing illegal crude palm oil activities.
"Since January, the total value of seizures recorded has reached RM15 million," he added.
He also encouraged the public to come forward with any information on illegal activities, assuring that Marine Police Region Four remains committed to combating smuggling crimes for the nation's safety and well-being.
