7-Eleven is giving away free Slurpees — for one day only. Here's what to know
7-Eleven is ringing in its 98th birthday with a Slurpee giveaway. On Friday, July 11, anyone can get a free 12-ounce Slurpee drink of their choice at participating 7-Eleven, Stripes and Speedway locations nationwide, according to the Texas-based convenience retailer. No purchase is required. Started in 2002, the annual event coincides with 7-Eleven's anniversary and celebrates the 'signature slushy drink' the brand is best known for, KXAS-TV reported. The one-day giveaway has included special perks and merchandise — including a new temporary tongue tattoo. Rewards members can snag the Slurpee-branded body art at select 7-Eleven locations, according to a news release. 'We love finding new ways to amp up the Slurpee drink experience and creating lasting moments for our customers, on Slurpee Day and all year round,' Marissa Jarratt, executive vice president at 7-Eleven, said in the release. 7-Eleven names new marketing agency of record

UM, which is owned by IPG Mediabrands, will be responsible for full-funnel, cross-channel media strategy as well as digital media activation for 7-Eleven, Speedway and the 7Now app. The retailer will utilize UM's 'Full Color Media' media planning proposition, released earlier this year, which seeks to use vibrancy, distinction. and cultural relevance to make a brand stand out from the crowd. Its model analyzes the relationship between brand perceptions over time and how such perceptions impact business results, then applies that data to forward-looking marketing strategies. "By leveraging UM's unique data-enabled approach, we are poised to unlock new opportunities to bring more people to our stores and ensure 7-Eleven remains an essential part of their daily lives,' said Marissa Jarratt, executive vice president and chief marketing and sustainability officer for 7-Eleven, in the announcement. 7-Eleven is coming off a year in which its 'Always Open' advertising campaign with professional football player JaMarr Chase won multiple awards. 7-Eleven is still working with Dentsu, according to information from the company.
