Indonesia's fisheries sector sees growth
JAKARTA: Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said on Wednesday that the country's export value of fishery products rose by 6.5 per cent year-on-year, reaching US$1.94 billion (RM8.19 billion) in the first quarter of this year, reported Xinhua.
Speaking during a session with Commission IV of the House of Representatives at the parliament building, Trenggono noted that the export volume of fishery products also increased by 2.3 per cent, totalling 430,000 tonnes over the first three months.
In terms of production, Indonesia generated 5.87 million tonnes of fishery products in the first quarter, marking a 2 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
Among the various subsectors, farmed fish production experienced the highest growth at 3.0 per cent, followed by seaweed at 2.2 per cent, and captured fisheries at 0.7 per cent, the minister added.
