Guardians' Steven Kwan breaks silence on wild trade rumors

The Cleveland Guardians don't seem likely to trade Steven Kwan. In fact, new reporting indicates it's "doubtful" to happen. But that hasn't stopped speculation around baseball about a potential move of the superb contact-hitting left fielder. And yeah, players hear the noise. Kwan was asked about it at All-Star Weekend. 'You kind of hear rumors of all sorts of different things,' Kwan told Mark Feinsand. 'Our job is to play baseball and do it to the best of our ability.' MORE: Kyle Schwarber is the hero of MLB's first All-Star Game Home Run Derby tiebreaker Kwan and the Guardians are facing an easy schedule out of the break. How they play in the upcoming stretch could also determine trade deadline plans. 'With that uncertainty, you can kind of let your brain just let it go,' Kwan said. 'I think if it was simpler, then you would kind of have a better idea, but because there's so much unknown with it, we just have to play the game.' The Guardians have Kwan under club control through 2027. He'd command a lot in a trade, but Cleveland fans would certainly be bummed if such a move ever came to pass. Alex Bregman Gets New Update on Red Sox Future Amid Trade Rumors

Alex Bregman Gets New Update on Red Sox Future Amid Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Here's the thing about Alex Bregman and the Boston Red Sox. Bregman, one of the better third basemen in Major League Baseball, won't be cheap. The Red Sox gave him a player-friendly type of deal, so he can opt out of it after this season if he wants to. Many expect that to be the case because of the way he was swinging the bat at the start of the year. Advertisement However, now that the Red Sox simply haven't played well, they could look to move on from him at the deadline. That likely wouldn't be the right decision from a team perspective, but it isn't the worst idea if they want to save money and head elsewhere. However, according to Mark Feinsand of the more likely scenario is that the Red Sox will attempt to sign him to a long-term deal and go from there. Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman (2) is congratulated after scoring against the Toronto Blue Jays during the ninth inning at Rogers E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images "...perhaps Alex Bregman, though that seems like an extreme longshot," Feinsand wrote. "Chapman and Buehler are set to become free agents at the end of the season, while Bregman can opt out of the final two years of his contract and test the open market for a second straight year. The more likely scenario, sources say, is that Boston would try to restructure Bregman's contract into a longer deal." Advertisement There's plenty of value in keeping Bregman around, even from a veteran standpoint. They know what they'll get from the right-handed hitter, and that's an elite bat. Bregman has done nothing but win throughout his entire career, so perhaps he wants to play elsewhere depending on the direction the Red Sox head in. MLB insider suggests Yankees-Cardinals could soon complete Nolan Arenado trade

Given that the St. Louis Cardinals are in contention at the beginning of July, the team may not decide to sell. However, if they can still get off of Nolan Arenado's contract, there's reason to believe that might be smart for them. When examining the situation, Mark Feinsand of discussed what could happen. Advertisement He added that while this was supposed to be a transition year for the Cardinals, and they've been better than expected, there are supposed to be many teams interested in trading for Arenado, as clubs need a third baseman. He added that the New York Yankees are one of them. 'Then again, this was supposed to be a transition year for the Cardinals, but St. Louis has exceeded most expectations with its play during the first half of the season. Might the front office keep the team together -- or even add to it? -- if things keep going well, or would a bad few weeks prompt the Cardinals to become a seller?' 'If it's the latter, there are a number of teams in the market for a third baseman -- namely the Yankees and Tigers. Would the Cardinals move Arenado, and, more importantly, would the eight-time All-Star agree to a trade? Stay tuned,' he wrote. MORE:Cardinals July record will determine potential Ryan Helsley trade Advertisement The Yankees have been linked to Arenado, but it doesn't make much sense from their perspective. Unless they believe Arenado is the perfect fit, finding a cheaper option seems to be the better plan. For the Cardinals, however, they can't worry about that too much. If the Yankees want to send them a decent package for the future Hall of Famer, they should take it. MLB Writer Pitches Dodgers Buy-and-Sell Strategy if Starting Rotation is Healthy

MLB Writer Pitches Dodgers Buy-and-Sell Strategy if Starting Rotation is Healthy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers, if they were to be fully healthy, would have a stacked starting rotation. But, with all of the injuries the starters have suffered, there's a need for so many starters. However, in a scenario where the Dodgers' starters are healthy, they could make some interesting moves. Advertisement According to writer Mark Feinsand, the Dodgers could join the buy-and-sell trend in Major League Baseball. If the starters are all healthy, they could look to move one or more starters to resolve issues around their roster. "... Though if the rotation is healthier by late-July and Friedman believes there are other holes to fill," Feinsand writes. "The idea of using some of its depth in the back of the rotation to address those needs makes sense." With the current crop of injuries, trading a starter seems out of the question. But if everyone, or most, were to get healthy, there would be a few starters who would be out of a spot in the rotation. Feinsand names Dustin May, Emmet Sheehan, and Landon Knack as potential options for the Dodgers to trade in such a scenario. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, and Clayton Kershaw are the big-three starters who are healthy right now, but there are plenty of starters who are hurt at the moment. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts (30) during the second inning against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Tyler Glasnow, Tony Gonsolin, Roki Sasaki, and Blake Snell are all hurt, but could be back at some point in 2025. That's seven starters, already, not including the three Feinsand mentions as trade chips for the Dodgers. Advertisement With teams around baseball looking to buy starters, the Dodgers could be in great shape if they decide to sell one of those three starters. A team like the Boston Red Sox could be willing to ship off outfielder Jarren Duran for one of the Dodgers' starters. The lack of potential starting pitchers on the market could allow the Dodgers to get a strong return if they employ the buy-and-sell strategy. The clear area where they could explore an improvement is in left field with Michael Conforto. Feinsand's strategy is an interesting one, but it'd only happen if the oft-injured starting rotation can get healthy. If the Dodgers' rotation does get healthy, they could be in line to make a deadline splash by sending one or more of their starters to bolster one of the best offenses in baseball. Red Sox rumors: Rival exec outlines trade deadline idea involving Kyle Tucker

The post Red Sox rumors: Rival exec outlines trade deadline idea involving Kyle Tucker appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Boston Red Sox traded away Rafael Devers with weeks to go before the MLB trade deadline. That has raised a lot of red flags around the organization, as they trudge into the future without the face of their franchise. But some look at the money they've saved and think they may have a plan. Mark Feinsand spoke with an anonymous executive who said the Red Sox may have their eyes on a prized free agent. Advertisement 'They're in a really interesting spot now,' an NL executive told Feinsand. 'They could look to take on an expiring contract at a high price point to get through the season and help them compete this year, while still having the financial means to attack a Kyle Tucker-type in the offseason. I think that newly found financial flexibility allows them a boatload of room to be creative.' Another executive Feinsand spoke to targeted Rhys Hoskins, who has a mutual option for 2026. They could have him play first while Tristan Casas recovers from his season-ending injury. That gives the 2025 Red Sox a chance to make the postseason, opens up first base for Casas next year, and keeps the space open for Tucker. The Arizona Diamondbacks are the team to look at when thinking about pending free agents and the MLB trade deadline. Unless they can turn it around quickly, they can rebuild on the fly with a bunch of trades. Eugenio Suarez should not be considered because he plays third base. But first baseman Josh Naylor, pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, and outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr could all end up in Boston. The Red Sox do have a logjam of outfielders and should leave their DH spot open to help themselves out. While the offseason could bring in Kyle Tucker, they need to improve their team for a run this year.
