Australian Sarah Gigante of AG Insurance-Soudal Team completed the podium. "I'm lost for words. This Giro was intense, packed with emotions, unforgettable," said Longo Borghini. "I knew I was going to have to give everything and that's what I did. Cycling is full of highs and lows, and moments like this make the sacrifice worthwhile." Liane Lippert, also of Movistar, won the extremely hilly 134km eighth and final stage from Forli to Imola. Although Reusser got ahead of Longo Borghini for third, the four-second time bonus was not enough for the Swiss rider. Elisa Longo Borghini wins Giro D'Italia for the second year in a row
UAE Team ADQ's Elisa Longo Borghini has won the Giro D'Italia Women for the second year in a row. The 33-year-old Italian finished eighteen seconds ahead of Movistar's Marlen Reusser after taking the race lead from the Swiss rider in the penultimate stage. Longo Borghini finished fourth in the eighth and final stage on Sunday, as Reusser's teammate Liane Lippert was the first to cross the line from Forli to Imola. Meanwhile, Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) took the overall points classification after two stage wins and Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance-Soudal) won the overall climber classification. After winning the first stage of the race — an individual time trial — Reusser spent four stages in the leader's maglia rosa jersey, gaining a sixteen second lead in the general classification going into the penultimate stage. On this seventh stage Longo Borghoni attacked on a descent before the final climb with her teammate Silvia Persico and despite being passed by AG Insurance-Soudal rider Sarah Gigante, she held on to take the GC lead for the first time that week. Advertisement The 22 second cushion above Reusser was enough to secure her second Giro win in as many years. 'It's been eight days completely full gas, we created actions, we believed every single day, and we stayed humble,' Longo Borghini said after the race. 'And I can't be much more thankful to my teammates than now, because if I wear this jersey now, it's because of them. 'They were super committed, they were never surrendering, and I'm just speechless.' Movistar collected the most stage wins over the week with three, ahead of AG Insurance-Soudal (2), Team SD Works-Protime (2) and Lidl-Trek (1).

Sarah Gigante wins stage seven of Giro d'Italia Donne
Australian Sarah Gigante has won her second stage of this year's Giro d'Italia Donne, winning the seventh queen stage from Fermignano to the summit finish of Monte Nerone. It is the first time an Australian has won two stages at the Giro since 1998, when Anna Millward won three stages. "Two stage wins is a big result," Gigante said at the finish. "I felt good today, I had studied the final climb and decided to attack on the steepest section. "At the same time, I wanted to prove that Stage 4 wasn't a one-off, that I came to Italy to show my strength." The 24-year-old, who also soloed to victory on stage four, once again burst away on the final climb of the 150km-long stage that featured 3,850 metres of climbing. She attacked with 6km to go on the stage, catching defending champion Elisa Longo Borghini before soloing to another impressive victory. Gigante led Longo Borghini home by 45 seconds, however the Italian had enough of a lead over race leader Marlen Reusser, to overtake the Swiss rider in the overall race for the Maglia Rosa. However, had Gigante not lost one-minute and 42 seconds in cross winds on the sixth stage, she would be in the race lead. Instead, she is third, 1:11 in arrears, with Reusser in second, 22 seconds behind Longo Borghini. Sunday's final stage is a hilly 138km from Forlì to the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola and, although it would take a small miracle to make up the 71 seconds required to take victory, the "I'm really grateful to my team, we stayed close together all day," Gigante said. "I'm still a bit behind in the GC, but I'll give it everything again tomorrow".

Cycling race is engulfed by punch controversy as leader appears to HIT out at rival in final sprint
Leader of the Giro d'Italia Women's race Marlen Reusser has been fined, docked UCI points and given a yellow card after appearing to hit out at another rider during a race. The competition has just sailed through stage six, with Liane Lippert claiming a sprint finish in what was her first victory since the same stage last year. The sport, though, has been engulfed in controversy after Swiss rider Reusser, who is currently 16 seconds ahead of closest rival Elisa Longo Borghini of Italy, was hit with disciplinary action after the fifth stage. Reusser claimed reclaimed the pink jersey - reserved for the race leader - when she retook the lead in the competition in stage four, but was fined for 'intimidation, insults directed to a rider and behaviour that endangers others' during Thursday's sprint stage to Monselice. The incident happened in the sprint to the line, which saw a large group of women dashing for the finish - mostly with their heads down. Reusser, though, could be seen putting her arm out in a punching motion, appearing to be aiming for Italian rider Katia Ragusa. La sanción ayer de € y puntos UCI a Reusser. Se ve una mano ahí por el aire que de la 🩷suiza hacia Ragusa #GirodItalia #UCIWWT — elsterrato (@elsterrato) July 11, 2025 Reusser did not appear to make contact with her competitor, but gesticulated and shouted at her rival in the sprint. She was fined £697, docked 30 UCI points and given the yellow card for intimidation. Reusser's team were keen to make it known that no contact was made, with Movistar DS Kelvin Dekker saying: 'She doesn't hit, she doesn't strike. And certainly not because she drops the gap, but because she nearly knocks her off her bike at 700m with a manoeuvre. 'She makes a gesture of what are you doing, but Ragusa/her team has no idea there was even a movement. They were called later by the jury and had no clue what it was about. 'Marlen needs to keep her hands on the handlebars in the finale. Otherwise, nothing's wrong.'
