ITV Good Morning Britain presenter interrupts to correct co-star live on air
Good Morning Britain star Richard Arnold was corrected by Martin Lewis in a conversation about the National Television Awards Good Morning Britain star Richard Arnold found himself being tactfully corrected on Wednesday's programme by guest host Martin Lewis during a light-hearted chat. Richard was jesting with Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher about acting as a "seat-filler" before she secured her role as Nina Lucas, which led to her winning Best Serial Performance in 2021. "I've never won a gong at the NTAs but I'm always welcomed every year as a seat-filler so that's something, I'm still in the building!" he quipped. Quick to clarify the situation, Martin intervened: "To defend the NTAs - having won one - the seat-fillers are actually for when you have to go up and do interviews afterwards, it's not empty seats, it's because you're going off to do interviews afterwards." Joining in the banter, Richard countered, "They have plenty of bums on seats, of course," before adding with his usual wit, "You'll be getting another one, don't worry about it!" Susanna Reid also assured Martin, "They're not going to take it away from you!" to which he remarked, sharing his experience, "I'm normally up against David Attenborough - it's not that easy." Last year saw Martin lose out on the coveted award, despite a double nomination for Best Factual and Best Expert for his engaging ITV show, sparking comments from fans about his apparent irritation at the outcome, reports the Manchester Evening News. Despite his previous triumph, Martin missed out on the award to Stacey Solomon's Sort Your Life Out and Sir David Attenborough, with eagle-eyed fans spotting him looking somewhat miffed. He later posted: "Well you can't win em all (or any tonight! ) but thanks so much to all who voted and supported me." Quashing any speculation of discontent, Martin shared a cheerful selfie from the event on his social media platforms. The money-saving guru had previously outshone Sir David and Clarkson's Farm to clinch the accolade in 2022, expressing his surprise: "When you're up against an international treasure like David Attenborough you don't normally expect to win, I'm quite shocked. Whoever said we've had enough of experts, no we haven't we need them more than ever right now. "Thank you so much to Claire and Angelica and everyone at the Martin Lewis Money Show and also to the web team who feed me the information and do the analysis for Money Saving Expert." He highlighted the financial struggles faced by many, citing the energy crisis as catastrophic, leading to severe issues and mental health concerns, and warned of the looming mortgage crisis impacting rents. "And you know what, we need somebody to get a grip on the economy and sort things a little bit better. "But that's for my show next Tuesday, tonight this nerd is gonna party! Thank you and good night." During Wednesday's GMB, Mollie Gallagher, known for her role as Nina in Coronation Street, shared her humble beginnings at the NTAs, revealing she initially attended as a "seat-filler" to ensure the venue looked packed. "That's how you started at the NTAs and then ended up winning one," Richard lauded. Mollie reminisced about an email from drama school inviting her to be a seat-filler at the NTAs, thinking it would be "cool" to be involved. "I was a massive Corrie fan so I thought, 'I hope they sit me next to Corrie,' but they didn't," she continued. She described being overwhelmed by the event, aspiring to one day be on the receiving end of such accolades, which she saw as a form of manifestation. "I remember being in awe and thinking, 'I want this one day, this is going to be me,' it was basically a manifestation there and then. Then when it did happen, my best friend was like, 'Mollie this is so weird,' and I was like, 'I know!'" she added. Reflecting on her unexpected win, Mollie admitted she was unprepared and has never rewatched her acceptance speech, finding it too cringe-worthy to endure. "I did not expect to win, I was not prepared, it was a whirlwind, and that speech... I've never watched it back since, I can watch myself act but the speech, I try and watch it, and ten seconds in I go, 'Nope, not today, never!'"

Martin Lewis 'three crucial alerts' summer holidays warning
In his ITV show, he told viewers: "Border control and flight checks are getting more stringent. There's an immigration issue going on around the world, and that means countries are getting stricter on who they let in. So you need to be more diligent with your checks." 'My daughter wasn't allowed to board the plane even though she had 7mths left on her passport' – the two key checks to ensure this doesn't happen to you (while it differs per country, these'll generally keep you safe) Courtesy of ITV Martin Lewis Money Show, watch the full show… — Martin Lewis (@MartinSLewis) May 22, 2025 Martin Lewis' three crucial travel checks "I've got three crucial alerts for you," he said. "First of all, two checks everybody needs to do on their passport now. These are, very importantly, this is about the day that you will enter the country. The first check is on the day you enter the country, are there less than six months left on your passport? Or if you're going to the EU less than three months left? If so, that's a big problem. But there's another rule, even if you had seven months, and this is what I think may have happened in Mary's daughter's case, seven months left on your passport. If your passport is over 10 years old, many countries won't let you in. Now, how could it be over 10 years old? Because it used to be that when you renewed, if you had any spare time on your old passport, they could add that on top, so you might have 10 years, 10 months, and that can bar you too. So you need to do both of those checks. Recommended reading: "Now, if you have done those checks, if there's yes to either of those, then the safest thing is to renew before you go. It takes three weeks, typically, to get a new passport, and it's cheaper to do it online. But let me be honest, I'm hearing so many cases like this. "If I was seven, eight or nine months away, and the rule was six months, I'd probably pay safe and get a new passport first anyway, so that I've got more on it, because it's being so tricky, and it's very similar. "If you're traveling to the USA or passing through the USA, you need to sort your ESTA now there is heightened border security in the States. If you don't have this as your sort of online visa, if you like, without one, People are being denied entry. You need to be careful."

Martin Lewis says make 3 'crucial' checks - these passport rules might catch you out
Financial expert Martin Lewis has illuminated three important checks that Brits should make ahead of the holiday season Martin Lewis has advised Brits to perform three essential checks before going on holiday abroad this summer. The 53-year-old financial expert emphasised that it is important to check the dates on your passport and ensure you possess the appropriate documents prior to departure. Talking on an episode of ITV's Martin Lewis Money Show, he said: "Now, I need to say something very important to everybody. Border control and flight checks are getting more stringent. "There is an immigration issue going on around the world, and that means countries are getting stricter on who they let in. So, you need to be more diligent with your checks." First and foremost, Martin emphasised that travellers should verify the expiration dates on their passports. Having less than six months of validity can lead to significant issues. For several countries, such as Australia, China, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, your passport needs to be valid for at least six months from your date of entry. Moreover, tourists visiting European and Schengen countries must ensure their passport is valid for at least three months beyond their intended return date. Nevertheless, even with a passport valid for seven months or more, entry might still be denied if another crucial rule isn't fulfilled. In numerous countries, including those in Europe, passports must have been issued within the last 10 years before the holiday departure date. Martin continued: "If your passport is over 10 years old, many countries won't let you in. Now, how can it be over 10 years old? Because it used to be that when you renewed, if you had any spare time on your old passport, they could add that on top. "So, you might have... 10 years, 10 months, and that can bar you too. So, you need to do both of those checks. Now, if you have done those checks, if there is a 'yes' to either of those, then the safest thing is to renew before you go." The cheapest method to get a passport is online via the Government's website, which costs £12.50 less than postal applications. The passport generally arrives in about three weeks, although it may take longer if further information or an interview is necessary. In emergencies, UK citizens can apply for an urgent passport through the Government's one-day premium service or the one-week fast track option. Each scheme has specific criteria and is priced higher than the standard service. With this in mind, Martin continued: "If I was seven, eight or nine months away and the rule was six months, I'd probably play safe and get a new passport first anyway, so that I've got more on it, because it's been so tricky. "And it's very similar if you are travelling to the USA or passing through the USA, you need to sort your ESTA now. There is heightened border security in the States. If you don't have, this is your sort of online visa if you like, without one people are being denied entry. You need to be careful." Where can I get a new passport urgently? Option 1: One-day premium The one-day premium service is available for adults renewing their current passports. Online applicants can choose to pay £222 or £235 for a 54-page frequent traveller passport. After each application, an appointment will be set up, with the earliest available slot being two days later. The Government explains: "You'll need to hand in your old passport at your appointment. Your new passport will be ready to collect from the passport office four hours after your appointment." Option 2: One-week fast track This alternative choice is accessible to anyone needing to renew their passport, in addition to the following specific situations: You need to get a child's passport You need to replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport You need to change the personal details on a passport (your name, place of birth or gender) The fast track option offers better value, costing £178 for an adult passport (£191 for a 54-page frequent traveller passport) and £145 for a child passport (£158 for a 54-page frequent traveller passport). You can book an appointment as early as the day after submitting your application, and generally, the passport is received about a week later. You cannot apply for either service if you are currently outside the UK or applying for your first adult passport. The Government also adds, "If you've already applied for a passport and have not received it yet, do not pay for an urgent passport. "You will not get your passport sooner and you will be charged a £32 admin fee for each additional application."
