Fireworks barge explodes on Lake Martin causing multiple injuries
A fireworks launch barge exploded on Lake Martin Friday night during a fireworks show, causing several injuries. The Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Office confirmed the explosion in the Blue Creek area. The Alexander City Outlook reported that at least five people were injured. Fireworks had been launched from the barge for several minutes when one charge exploded low near the boat, causing the barge to burn while it remained afloat for several minutes, the Outlook reported. Some of the injured were taken to area hospitals by helicopter, the Outlook reported. The marine police are investigating the incident and had released no other information by 5:30 a.m. Saturday. This is a breaking and will be updated. Fourth of July: Colorful Independence Day celebrations across the Montgomery area
It was a red, white and blue Fourth of July in the region as Independence Day was celebrated with parades, concerts, fireworks and even a carboard boat race. In Prattville the day kicked off with a downtown parade, then it was the annual cardboard boat race at Pratt Pool. The pool is located in Pratt Park which also hosted the annual Lions Club barbecue. The evening wrapped up with fireworks. In Montgomery, the 49th Annual Cloverdale-Idlewild parade had walkers, wagons and pets in the merry neighborhood cavalcade. A celebration at the Montgomery Riverfront featured patriotic music by the 151st Alabama Army National Guard Band. Fireworks over the water put an exclamation point on the day. Montgomery police investigate fatal May 10 shooting
Montgomery police are investigating a fatal Saturday night shooting. On May 10, at about 6:45 p.m., police and fire medics went to the 2000 Block of Locust Street on a report of a person shot, said Lt. David Wise, a spokesman for the Montgomery Police Department. The person was pronounced dead, Wise said. The person's name and gender were not released. The circumstances of the case remain under investigation, and no other information was immediately released. $5,000 reward offered for information in Montgomery rape case
Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in a Montgomery rape case. According to the Montgomery Police Department a woman reported that she was sexually assaulted on April 5 between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Winton Blount Park. Police say the assault happened near the entrance at Woodmere Boulevard. The woman described the suspect as a Black man with slim build, between 5-feet-5 and5-feet-6-inches tall. He is described as having a medium complexion, low haircut and some facial hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and red basketball shorts with black designs at the time, police said. The circumstances of the case remain under investigation, and no other information was immediately released. Taco Bell is coming to this closed Alabama restaurant location
PRATTVILLE − A closed restaurant building in Prattville is getting a new life. Taco Bell is coming to the former Steak 'n Shake building, in the 2300 block of Cobbs Ford Road, City Hall confirms via social media. It will be the city's second Taco Bell location, with the first being located in the 400 block of South Memorial Drive. "New investment is always important," Amy Coats Hilliard posted on social media while sharing the city's announcement. She serves as Prattville's economic development coordinator. "Filling an empty building is even better." The former Steak 'n Shake location is next to the closed Milo's location, which is next to a former O'Charleys. The three restaurants have been closed for about two years.
