‘I want to be first Polish world champion' – Kierczynska's ONE Championship aim
A certain brash Irishman once made a phrase synonymous with combat sports: 'We're not here to take part, we're here to take over.' Advertisement Martyna Kierczynska is anything but brash, but she would almost certainly subscribe to Conor McGregor's sentiment. Quietly confident, respectful, and technically gifted, the Polish phenom carries herself with conviction – and believes she belongs at the top. The 23-year-old Muay Thai standout is preparing for her third appearance in ONE Championship and has made no secret of her long-term goal. 'I want to be the first Polish world champion in ONE Championship,' Kierczynska told the Post. 'That's my goal; I'm doing everything I can to be on top.' Originally scheduled to face Scotland's Amy Pirnie in Bangkok, Kierczynska was handed a late opponent switch when Pirnie withdrew. Stepping in will be Cynthia Flores, a 30-year-old from Mexico with a WBC international title on her resume.

ONE Championship: Hong Kong star Yu Yau-pui back in the ring at ONE Fight Night 29
Hong Kong's Yu Yau-pui is set to return to action against Poland's Martyna Kierczynska at ONE Fight Night 29 on March 8. Advertisement The event will be a significant night for women's Muay Thai, with Allycia Hellen Rodrigues defending her atomweight title against Shir Cohen in the main event. Both Yu and Kierczynska will be looking to bounce back from their first defeats under the ONE Championship banner, when they face off at Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium. Yu secured a lucrative US$100,000 (HK$777,000) contract after a dominant run, scoring four knockout wins in five fights. But her momentum was halted in August last year when Scottish veteran Amy Pirnie knocked her out in the first round at ONE Fight Night 24. Kierczynska made a strong impression in the strawweight division with a second-round stoppage of Nat 'Wondergirl' Jaroonsak on her ONE debut, before the 22-year-old suffered a unanimous decision loss to Ekaterina Vandaryeva in March.
