Renault Triber revises competition with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens. How these MPVs compete against each other

Renault has launched the updated iteration of Triber earlier this month. The Renault Triber facelift comes with a host of design updates and a revised feature list. The French automaker that currently sells the Kwid hatchback and the Kiger compact SUV, alongside the Triber MPV. The car manufacturer has revamped the Renault Triber, revising its competition with rivals like Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens . The utility vehicle segment in the Indian passenger vehicle market has been witnessing ever-increasing demand from consumers, which is majorly driven by the popularity of SUVs and crossovers. However, the MPVs too have been witnessing rising demand owing to their spacious and practical proposition as family cars. Keeping pace with that, Renault tried to amp up the appeal of the Triber. However, it is not a very easy task for the Triber to make a significant space in a segment where two of the popular rivals are there. Here is a quick comparison between Renault Triber, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and Kia Carens on the basis of price and specifications. On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which is the bestselling model in this segment, is available at a price range of ₹9.12 lakh and ₹13.41 lakh (ex-showroom). Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki updated the Ertiga with six airbags as standard recently. At the same time, the OEM increased the pricing of the MPV as well. Kia Carens, the other model in the fray, is priced between ₹11.41 lakh and ₹16.89 lakh (ex-showroom). This means the Renault Triber is the most affordable MPV among these three models. Even the top-end trim of the Triber is priced close to the base variant of the Ertiga. Kia Carens, on the other hand, is the most pricey model in this space. Renault Triber vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga vs Kia Carens: Specification Powering the Renault Triber is the same old 1.0-litre petrol engine. The three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, while there is a five-speed AMT unit on offer as well. This engine churns out 71 bhp peak power and 96 Nm of maximum torque. There is a CNG kit fitment option as well. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, while there is a petrol-CNG bi-fuel combination on offer as well. Transmission choices include both manual and automatic units. The petrol motor churns out 102 bhp peak power and 136.8 Nm of maximum torque. Kia Carens is available with a single petrol engine choice. Powering the MPV is a 1.5-litre petrol motor, while there is a 1.5-litre diesel unit on offer as well. Renault India has launched the facelifted version of the Triber MPV, with prices starting at ₹6.30 lakh (ex-showroom) and going up to ₹9.17 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelifted iteration of the MPV comes with a plethora of cosmetic changes and packs a wide range of fresh features. The Renault Triber sits in a segment that has been witnessing rising demand over the last few years. Renault Triber facelift: Variants and pricing The Renault Triber facelift is available in four variant choices - Authentic, Evolution, Techno, and Emotion. While all the variants come equipped with a manual gearbox, the top-end variant gets an AMT unit. The MPV is priced between ₹6.30 lakh and ₹9.17 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Renault Triber comes with a standard warranty valid for three years or one lakh kilometres, which can be extended to seven years or unlimited kilometres. Renault Triber facelift: Revamped design The Renault Triber facelift comes with a refreshed design. It sports redesigned headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights, a new gloss black front grille, smoked LED taillights with a black strip at the tailgate's centre. However, the overall silhouette of the MPV, especially from the side profile, looks similar to the pre-facelift model. Another interesting change is the addition of the automaker's new 2D diamond-shaped brand logo. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has hiked the prices of its Rumion MPV by ₹13,000 on all variants. The new prices are now applicable nationwide. The across-the-board increase is applicable to all fuel and transmission types, such as the petrol-manual, petrol-automatic, and CNG-manual variants. There has been no modification made by Toyota in the design, features, or performance of the Rumion despite the price revision. Based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Toyota Rumion is a seven-seater and is powered by a 1.5-litre K series petrol engine. It is offered in both petrol and petrol plus CNG option. In the petrol-manual segment, the S MT model is now tagged at ₹10.67 lakh, the G MT at ₹11.83 lakh, and the V MT at ₹12.56 lakh. For those opting for the automatic transmission, the S AT is now ₹12.17 lakh, the G AT stands at ₹13.23 lakh, and the top-spec V AT costs ₹13.96 lakh. The CNG-powered S MT variant now carries a price tag of ₹11.62 lakh. All these prices are ex-showroom, pan-India, and reflect a uniform increment of ₹13,000 over their previous figures. The Renault Triber facelift arrives with a heavily reworked front and rear profile, and packs more features as well. Prices for the Triber facelift start from ₹ 6.30 lakh (ex-showroom), going up to ₹ 9.17 lakh (ex-showroom). Renault Triber Facelift: New Styling The Triber facelift brings a heavily revised front profile. There's a new grille with diagonal slats finished in black and the new Renault logo in the centre, making this the first offering to get the new diamond logo in India. The bumper has been revised with bigger air intakes, while the headlamp cluster has been revised with new LED DRLs. The rear profile sports new black appliqué in the centre, while the taillights have been tweaked. The bumper gets new silver accents, along with other changes. The model also gets new wheels as part of the changes. Renault Triber Facelift: Revised Interior The cabin gets subtle changes including the new digital console and infotainment system.
