‘On track': Matildas' Asian Cup boost
The Matildas could enter the Asian Cup with maximum goal-scoring power after coach Joe Montemurro confirmed that Mary Fowler was 'on track' to make a faster-than-expected recovery from an ACL injury and captain Sam Kerr was set to make an imminent return to action with Chelsea. Australian has drawn an opening-round clash with Philippines for the home tournament next March, and with Fowler starting to run during some training in Sydney this week under a program being run by her club, Manchester City, Montemurro is excited that she could be ready in time. Fowler ruptured her ACL in April, an injury that can take up to 12 months to recover from. 'I spoke to her the other day and she's on track,' Montemurro said at the Asian Cup draw in Sydney. Matildas star Mary Fowler could be back for the Asian Cup. Tom Parrish Credit: News Corp Australia 'She's in Sydney at the moment doing some running. 'She's looking good, and she should be hopefully back playing before November.' Kerr has also moved in to full training with Chelsea more than 18 months after suffering her own ACL injury and looms as a key inclusion, with the tournament opener being played in her home town of Perth. 'All the signs are really, really positive. She's joined in pre-season training with Chelsea,' Montemurro said. 'She's probably into a pretty normal routine now, back to club training, and we hope that all goes well going forward and getting some game time at Chelsea.' Montemurro knows the pressure will be on to replicate the stunning run of the Matildas to the semi-finals of the home World Cup in 2023 when the tournament kicks off. 'In any tournament, the expectations were what they were,' Montemurro said. 'I couldn't predict that I wanted this team or that team. Now it's a little bit clearer, the style of teams we're playing, and it's a little bit clearer on how we approach the build-up into it.' Nathan Cleary, Mary Fowler photos squash ‘break-up' rumour once and for all
Nathan Cleary and Mary Fowler have squashed any lingering rumours about their relationship with a public appearance together over the weekend. The rumour mill had been whipped up into a frenzy by some news outlets with speculation the Australian sporting golden couple were 'on the rocks'. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer > However, the truth about their relationship was on full display on Saturday night as Fowler was spotted inside CommBank Stadium cheering Cleary on during the Panthers' big win over the Wests Tigers in western Sydney. Now new photos show the couple walking together out the front of Penrith Panthers headquarters after the NRL star's recovery session on Sunday. According to MediaMode, the couple kept things relaxed as they made their way outside the Panthers training facility. They were seen effortlessly smiling as they shared a joke in front of cameras Why did people think Mary Fowler and Nathan Cleary may have broken up? Rumours have been rife that their relationship isn't all sunshine and rainbows after Fowler jetted back home to Australia to spend some time with her friends and family, and Cleary initially was nowhere to be seen. The Panthers star has routinely picked Fowler up from the airport, but earlier this month was nowhere to be seen as the Matildas forward touched down. The pair have also stopped sharing cute pictures of one another on social media, adding fuel to the fire that they may have quietly ended things. However, Fowler – who continues her rehab for an ACL injury she picked up earlier this year – has spent several days since with Cleary, easing fears of any relationship unrest. She was also seen cheering him on at last weekend's game and now accompanying him to Panthers HQ. While Cleary has been absent from the Matildas superstar's social media, the Manchester City star has kept fans up to date on her knee rehabilitation, posting pictures and short videos of herself in the gym and of the scar on her knee. The 22-year-old is expected to return to action at the start of 2026, but is racing the clock to prove her fitness before the Asian Cup next year. However, in May, she spoke about the rehabilitation progress going well, as she revealed it hadn't upset her as much as she expected. 'Obviously, I enjoy playing football, but I wouldn't say it's my passion,' Fowler said on the Keegan and Company podcast. 'I play it because there are a lot of things I enjoy about it – I really enjoy travelling, being with my teammates, the people that I've met through football, but if I finished it tomorrow, I probably wouldn't have any regrets. 'I think there are other things outside of football I am more passionate about. Getting injured … in my head I pull myself up at times like 'am I supposed to feel more s**t about this, about what's happened'.

Mary Fowler squashes rumours she's broken up with Nathan Cleary as she beams in photos their fans have been dying to see
Soccer and NRL fans who were worried that Mary Fowler 's romance with Nathan Cleary had fizzled out have had their concerns put to rest as the Matildas star smiled from ear to ear while stepping out with her man in Sydney on Sunday. Out-of-character moves by the couple on social media recently led to speculation by Daily Mail Australia that there could have been trouble brewing for the couple, who first went public with their romance in November 2023. Now photos of the pair leaving Penrith Panthers' headquarters in western Sydney appear to have proven us wrong - and we couldn't be happier. Fowler was smiling and laughing as she and Cleary left the club's training facilities on Sunday after she was seen cheering him on from the stands as the defending premiers ran out big winners over Wests Tigers on Saturday night. She also visited him at his home in Sydney's west last week, looking tense as she left. The couple also appear to have had a date night at a tenpin bowling alley, where they were photographed posing with a Panthers fan in a heartwarming snap. Recent out-of-character moves by both stars on social media had fuelled speculation about their romance - but they now appear to have put that to rest Now the most recent photos show Mary dressed casually in training gear and carrying a water bottle as Nathan beamed alongside her as he recovered from starring in Penrith's 36-2 win. A series of eye-opening changes by the couple on social media first gave rise to speculation about their relationship earlier this month. When Fowler flew into Sydney on July 16, Cleary - who's usually with her when she arrives and departs at the airport - was nowhere to be seen. More signs were there for all to see on social media. Cleary has long had a pair of paw prints on his Instagram bio, likely as a nod to the Panthers. Fowler had the same emojis on her account - until she dropped them recently. Ever since they got together, the couple have regularly shared and liked posts from and about each other, but that also changed in the last few weeks. In an unusual move, Mary didn't immediately like Nathan's raw post about the embarrassment he felt after NSW fell to a heavy loss in the Origin decider against Queensland, in which he referenced the 'self-loathing and hurt' that come with defeat. She has since liked that post while she's been Down Under. Dressed casually in training gear, the Matildas and Manchester City star wasn't wearing a brace or any strapping on her injured knee in a sign her rehab is going well The couple also posed for a photo with a fan while they enjoyed some time at a tenpin bowling alley in Sydney within the last week (pictured) Cleary had also dropped the ball when it comes to liking Fowler's posts. He last did so on June 6, when the 22-year-old posted a selection of photos, one of which featured her and Cleary, who commented, 'Must be nice having a personal photographer follow you around.' That was the most recent time Nathan was pictured on her Instagram. She was last pictured on his account on May 13. Last week Fowler seemed to give fans more cause for concern when she posted shots from her current trip to Australia, showing she'd been catching up with her Matildas teammate Lydia Williams, who was with her at Sydney Airport. At the time of writing, Cleary still hasn't liked that post - although that detail has been cast in a completely new light by the new photos. Fowler's last match for Manchester City - in which she ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee - was on April 14, and since then she has been rehabbing the injury during the Women's Super League off-season. Fowler hasn't revealed the reason for her trip to Sydney, but the timing had some fans wondering why she didn't come down a week sooner so she could be there for one of the biggest games of her man's career when NSW tried to win the interstate series. A more cheerful detail to emerge from the most recent photos of Fowler concerns her comeback from the ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in her knee. Unlike Sam Kerr's recovery from the same setback - which has taken far longer than the year that was originally predicted - Fowler's rehab appears to be going very well. She wasn't wearing a brace on the knee in the photographs taken on Sunday, unlike Kerr, whose joint still needed that support when she went into camp with the Matildas in April, 15 months after rupturing her ACL. Fowler has also posted videos showing her working on her rehab in the gym, featuring her jumping without discomfort in a great sign for fans who are desperate to see her return to the field. 'I have recently made a conscious effort to think that I don't have like a bad knee that needs to be fixed, but I'm getting an upgrade and I'm getting an even better knee,' she said last month.

Nathan Cleary and Mary Fowler appear to put break-up speculation to rest with one heartwarming photograph
Aussie sporting power couple Nathan Cleary and Mary Fowler appear to have put speculation about their relationship to rest after a heartwarming picture of the pair appeared online last week. Rumours have been circulating that their relationship might be on the rocks after Fowler jetted back Down Under to catch up with her family and friends. Cleary, 27, who usually meets her at the airport, was nowhere to be seen as she touched down in Australia. In recent months, the injured Manchester City star has stopped sharing pictures of her beau on social media, and so too has Cleary. It comes as a surprise as the pair, who first went public with their relationship in 2023, have regularly shared snaps of each other online. Cleary has also not liked any of Fowler's posts since June 6, with the Manchester City star publishing a telling suite of images on Tuesday, showing her being dropped off at the airport by Matildas team-mate Lydia Williams. The couple have, though, met up over the past week. Fowler, who is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, called in at Cleary's house on Friday. However, upon leaving the home, she had appeared to cut a tense figure. But in a new update, the pair appear to have put some of the speculation around their relationship to rest after they were pictured enjoying an evening out at a bowling alley last week. During the evening, the couple stopped to take pictures with a Penrith fan. The image was posted on the Ability Hub Services Instagram account, with the couple smiling as they posed for a picture with the fan, who was wearing a Panthers jersey. It comes after she added fuel to the rumours that their relationship might be on the rocks. Fowler took to instagram to publish multiple telling images, alongside the caption 'Free art'. Several videos were included in the post of her looking out of a plane window. She added a shot of a rainbow curving across the sky as well as an image of Williams' dog. Williams commented on the Instagram post, saying: 'Building the band marathon,' an apparent reference to the new Netflix reality series in which contestants compete to form the next big global music group. Cleary, meanwhile, has kept somewhat of a low profile since New South Wales suffered defeat in this year's State of Origin series. The footy star underwhelmed during the final State of Origin clash at the Accor Stadium, with NSW going on to be thumped by Queensland. Fowler added some fuel to the rumours earlier this week posting a telling set of pictures on Instagram He took to social media to write: 'Failure is filled with embarrassment, self-loathing and hurt. It is also a test of character and in amongst that test is a chance to stand up, face it, learn from it and get better... We move onwards and upwards. Thank you to all those who support me unconditionally.' Fowler, who was last pictured on his account on May 13, did not like the post and wasn't present during this year's State of Origin series. During her time Down Under, Fowler appears to have headed back to Queensland to spend some time with her family. She published a heartwarming reel of herself and her mum showcasing their makeup routine. Th 22-year-old was unable to return home to Australia following the conclusion of the Women's Super League season after the Man City star was forced to undergo surgery on her ACL injury, which she sustained during her side's Women's FA Cup semi-final defeat by rivals Manchester United. She has since been keeping her followers updated on her recovery, posting snaps of herself in the gym, while also posting an image of her knee on Instagram, showing how well the scars have healed. Fowler is unlikely to return to action until next year, with concerns mounting over whether she will be able to play in the Asian Cup next March. And it appears her recovery is going very well. 'I have recently made a conscious effort to think that I don't have like a bad knee that needs to be fixed, but I'm getting an upgrade and I'm getting an even better knee,' she said last month. de and I'm getting an even better knee,' she said last month.
