Blitz the Seahawk inducted into Mascot Hall of Fame

Blitz the Seahawk inducted into Mascot Hall of Fame The Seattle Seahawks have five retired numbers in franchise history: Steve Largent's No. 80, Walter Jones' No. 71, Kenney Easley's No. 45, Cortez Kennedy's No. 96, and No. 12 in honor of their fans. With the exception of No. 12, the other four numbers are retired due to the players who made them iconic have all been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Well, Seattle may need to think about hanging another jersey number from the rafters... as they now have another Hall of Fame inductee: their beloved mascot, Blitz the Seahawk! On Tuesday it was announced Blitz was officially voted into the Mascot Hall of Fame. Out of 28 total nominees in 2025, Blitz made the final cut and will be immortalized as a Hall of Fame caliber mascot. Blitz now becomes the fifth NFL mascot to be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame. He joins Blue (Colts), KC wolf (Chiefs), Jaxson de Ville (Jaguars) and fellow 2025 inductee Toro (Texans). Interestingly, another Pacific Northwest icon was also nominated: the Oregon Duck. Certainly one of the better known mascots in the world of college athletics. Unfortunately, the Duck will have to wait at least another year before he gets in. Blitz is also the only Seattle/Washington State mascot in Hall as well. Mariner Moose, Harry the Husky, Butch T. Cougar and (my personal favorite) Swoop from Eastern Washington University are all currently on the outside looking in. Perhaps someday they will join Blitz! But for now, raise a glass in honor of Blitz, fellow 12's. It is time to celebrate the latest Seahawk Hall of Famer!

Texans' star TORO named to 2025 Mascot Hall of Fame Class

Texans' star TORO named to 2025 Mascot Hall of Fame Class The Houston Texans have one player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame with wide receiver Andre Johnson. They also now have one mascot forever enshrined in their repsective field. Texans' official mascot, TORO, will be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025, the Mascot Hall of Fame Executive Committee announced Tuesday morning. TORO, who made his debut in 2002, will become the second Houston-based mascot to join the Hall of Fame, alongside Astros' longtime mascot Orbit, a 2024 recipient. 'We are so proud to have TORO inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame and we share this recognition with Texans fans everywhere,' Houston Texans Senior Mascot Program Manager Andrew Johnson said. 'The city of Houston helped bring TORO to life by giving him an identity within the community. We can't wait to celebrate TORO in the Mascot Hall of Fame this season and for him to continue bringing joy to fans of all ages.' TORO joins an elite group of 33 mascots already enshrined in the Hall, recognized for excellence across collegiate, professional and independent sports. The Texans will recognize TORO for this distinguished honor in a Mascot Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony during halftime of one of their home game this season. Established by the original Phillie Phanatic David Raymond (1978-1993), The Mascot Hall of Fame celebrates the power of mascot entertainment as a tool for education, creativity and community engagement, offering a family-friendly environment dedicated to honoring the characters that bring joy and energy to audiences around the globe. TORO earned the highest number of votes amongst the Executive Committee and ranked highest for public votes of all mascots on the ballot. An 11-time Pro Bowl honoree, the face of the Texans is renowned for his high-flying stunts, hilarious social media pranks and energizing presence as the conductor of the crowd at Texans home games. Beyond gameday activities, TORO has been deeply involved in the Houston community through his elementary school program, including TORO Takes the BULL Out of Bullying and visits to Texans community partners. In addition, TORO also wrote his first children's book, 'Made To Be A Mascot', which highlights the importance of celebrating each other's differences. The Texans open at home on Sept. 15 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.

Altoona Curve mascot nominated for 2025 hall of fame class

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Altoona Curve's favorite yellow mascot, LOCO, was nominated for the Mascot Hall of Fame's 2025 class. The Mascot Hall of Fame announced 28 candidates that have been recognized for over 10 years for excellence, energy and commitment to their communities. LOCO joins several minor and major league mascots on the ballot including Pirate Parrot. Voting for the 2025 class is open at the Mascot Hall of Fame website and runs through May 24. The inductees will be announced in June. STUDIO 814: Vote for the Altoona Curve's Loco to get into the Mascot Hall of Fame! LOCO, the fellow in yellow, began entertaining fans in 2015 when the Curve's original mascot Steamer was saying farewell. However, the Curve says LOCO's origin story goes back to when the Horseshoe Curve was built. 'Way back in the early 1840s when the construction of the Horseshoe Curve had just begun, engineer J. Edgar Thompson enlisted the help of Golden Locotami. These creatures were native to the Allegheny Mountains, their golden-yellow fur helped them camouflage into the mountains during the fall when they were known to hibernate. They were agile, fast, and loved to eat as seen by their portly bellies,' read a statement by the Altoona Curve on LOCO's origin story. The mascot was previously chosen as a finalist in the 2023 Mascot Hall of Fame class. The Mascot Hall of Fame was founded in 2005 and recognizes all North American sports mascots. On game night, LOCO is joined by other mascot friends such as Al Tuna, Trax and Diesel Dog. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
