Major health update on toddler who was hurled onto floor at Moscow airport

A toddler who was bodyslammed to the ground by a thug at an international airport has opened his eyes after more than a week. Shocking CCTV footage of the attack at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on June 23 showed the 18-month-old leaning against a suitcase. Suddenly, Belarusian Vladimir Vitkov, 31, a nuclear power plant construction worker, picked up and hurled little Yazdan on the ground. After a brief spasm, the boy, named Yazdan, becomes motionless as someone picks him up in their arms to keep him safe. The tot had arrived in Russia minutes earlier after he and his mother fled the bombing in Iran, according to local reports. Local media have now said Yazdan has opened his eyes and is breathing on his own, but is still in intensive care. His father, Mohammed Shahim, said yesterday: 'Two hours ago, he was disconnected from the ventilator. Doctors say that he will remain in intensive care until tomorrow. 'He regained consciousness, opened his eyes, but is not saying anything yet. I am here every second, I am with him 24/7.' Chief physician at Moscow's L.M. Roshal Children's Clinical Centre, Tatyana Shapovalenko, said: 'The child was extubated, meaning that the boy is now breathing on his own with a high flow of oxygen.' 31-year-old Vitkov remains in custody and has reportedly refused to apologise to Yazdan's family. Yazdan's father, Mohammed, said: 'He is not a man, he is Satan, he is Shaitan. He mocked us: me, my wife.' Vitkov was reportedly high on drugs and told the police he was a schizophrenia patient. The Belarusian was reported by some outlets to have been on the same flight as the child and his mother, who were escaping from Iran, where they had been visiting relatives. Initial reports found he was returning home through Moscow after failing a drug and alcohol check for a job in Egypt. Vitkov later confessed to being high on drugs when he threw the toddler head-first onto the ground. In police discussions, Vitkov seemingly confessed to the crime when asked to explain what he did. More Trending He told an officer: 'I attempted to murder a child… at Sheremetyevo Airport.' When asked what his motive was, Vitkov said he 'didn't know' because he was 'under the influence of drugs'. Reports said cannabis had been found in his possession, and there were traces of the drug in his blood. Mash news outlet reported today that he had drunk three bottles of whisky and obtained cannabis in Cairo before the incident. 'Monster' confesses to 'trying to murder' baby throwing him headfirst in airport

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT In footage that is too awful to show, monster Vladimir Vitkov, 31, a Belarusian construction worker, picks the 18-month-old up by the leg and hurls him on the floor of Moscow Airport This is the moment a 'monster' who tried to kill a helpless infant fleeing the Israel-Iran conflict confessed to his heinous crimes. Sickening footage - which is too violent to show - shows the Belarusian man, 31, who works as a construction worker at a nuclear plant, picking up the tot before hurling him to the ground of Moscow airport's arrivals hall. ‌ Just minutes earlier, the child had arrived in Russia after he and his mum fled the bombs raining down on Iran. Little Yazdan, aged 18 months, is now fighting for his life with serious skull fractures and spinal injuries. ‌ The man, Vladimir Vitkov, was reported by some outlets to have been on the same flight as the child and his mother who were escaping from war-ravaged Iran where they had been visiting relatives. They had reached Afghanistan after fleeing Iran. Earlier, Vitkov had been fired from a nuclear power plant construction job in Egypt after failing a spot check for drugs and alcohol, and was returning home via Moscow, according to a friend. 'He was valued there, appointed a foreman,' the friend told Daily Storm. 'But there are constant checks, you have to blow into a pipe before work. Apparently, he drank or smoked something there - and because of that he was sent home. He was at the airport because he was returning from work in Egypt.' The boy was thrown head first on the ground by the stranger, who was reported by Russian law enforcement to have been high on drugs. He 'confessed' when a police interrogator asked: 'Explain what you did." ‌ 'I attempted to murder a child," he responded. When asked where it happened, he said "at Sheremetyevo Airport [in Moscow].' His motive was then questioned, to which he replied that he didn't know because he was "under the influence of drugs". Reports said cannabis had been found in his possession and there were traces of the drug in his blood. Mash news outlet reported today that he had drunk three bottles of whisky and obtained cannabis in Cairo before the incident. ‌ The Moscow region children's ombudswoman Ksenia Mishonova labelled him a 'drug-addled monster', and called for him to be punished with 'hard labour until he is feeble with old age'. 'I am always very, very careful, but here I no longer have the strength not to say simply - [this was] a stoned drug addict, a monster,' she said after seeing the boy in hospital. ‌ 'I cannot call this person anything else. I believe that he is not sick at all. In our country, drug addiction is like a disease — it is not a disease, but this is my position. He is an absolute monster, a criminal who should be judged in the most severe manner for what he did…. 'God simply saved the boy. In any other situation, a slightly different tilt of the head, and he, of course, would not have survived.' By a 'miracle' the child's brain was not damaged, she said, adding that he was now out of a medically-induced coma as doctors assessed his condition. The boy's distraught mother Hajizada Sahar had repeatedly asked her if her son would recover, she said. Dr Tatyana Shapovalenko, chief doctor at the Roshal Children's Centre, Moscow, said: "The child was admitted with a severe craniocerebral injury. Last Updated: The 18-month-old boy was left in a coma after a tourist violently slammed him to the ground inside a Russian airport. A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was left in a coma after a tourist at a Russian airport picked him up and slammed him to the floor in a shocking act of violence. According to the Sun, who first reported the news, the child suffered skull fractures and spinal injuries in the unprovoked assault, which took place moments after he and his mother arrived in Russia. The horrific incident, caught on surveillance footage that has not been publicly released, took place at the arrivals hall of a Moscow-area airport. However, footage of the incident was later released on social media outlets by Russian news agency Mash. 😱😱😱A Belarusian citizen attacked a child at the Sheremetyevo airport Khimki city Moscow Oblast, Russia. The footage shows a male picking up the child & throwing him onto the concrete. The child suffered a fractured spine & cranial is in a coma in the hospital. — NoHoldsBarred (@AussieSteve64) June 24, 2025 Witnesses say the attacker appeared to scan the surroundings before lifting the toddler, who was standing beside a small suitcase, and slammed him down with force. The boy's pregnant mother had stepped away briefly to retrieve a pushchair when the assault occurred, the Sun said. They said the family had arrived in Russia after fleeing from Iran, having travelled through Afghanistan to escape the ongoing US-Israel bombing campaign. Investigators are probing whether the attack was racially motivated or driven by other factors, the Russian news media outlets further added. Vitkov had also arrived in Russia recently, reportedly flying in from Cyprus or Egypt. Police said they suspect he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack. Ksenia Mishonova, Moscow Region's Children's Ombudswoman, condemned the incident in strong terms. 'A drug-addled monster grabbed a toddler in the arrivals hall and threw him on the floor with all his might… All this is incredibly difficult to bear. I hope the detained monster will receive the full severity of the law. May the parents have the strength to survive this," Mishonova was quoted as saying by Russian news outlets. Traces of cannabis were found in the suspect's blood, according to the Russian Investigative Committee. Other reports claimed drugs were found on his person as well. Authorities said Vitkov was unable to explain his actions. When asked if he had a criminal record, he told police, 'I made mistakes like that." Russian news media outlets also said Vitkov has a daughter the same age as the boy he allegedly attacked. A woman described as a close friend of the suspect was reportedly 'in shock" over what had happened. The suspect has been taken into custody and is now under investigation for attempted murder.
