Skanska invests $76.59m in Czech Republic's new residential project

Project development and construction company Skanska has announced a Kč 1.6bn ($76.59m) investment in a new residential project in the Czech Republic. The construction, part of the D.O.K. Radlice project, valued at Kč 1.0bn, is set to be recorded in the company's European order intakes for the second quarter of 2025. This project in Prague's Radlice district will consist of 177 low-energy apartments across three residential buildings, with one becoming the largest wooden residential building in the Czech Republic. Located near natural monuments and green spaces, the development aims to foster a quiet living environment, complete with a courtyard and playground. The single-phase project's design prioritises sustainability, incorporating green infrastructure to achieve a substantially lower carbon footprint. A preliminary analysis suggests that the wooden structure could halve the volume of concrete typically required and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to one-third compared to traditional building methods. The buildings aim to achieve a high rating within the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) international sustainability certification. Construction is expected to be completed in 2027. Skanska, with a workforce of approximately 26,500, operates in select markets in the Nordics, Europe, and the US. Last month, the company won a significant contract in the US, valued at $250m, to construct a new parking garage and carry out enhancements at Logan Airport's Terminal E in Boston. This project is part of the Massachusetts Port Authority's Terminal E Renovation and Expansion Program. Additionally, Skanska was awarded a Nkr360m contract by the Gjesdal Municipality in Norway for the construction of the Gjesdal Health Center in Rogaland County. JetBlue flight from Chicago rolls off runway and into grass in Boston

A JetBlue flight landing at Boston's Logan International Airport rolled off the runway and into the grass on Thursday (June 12, 2025), an airport spokesperson said. No one on JetBlue flight 312 was injured, but the runway remained closed Thursday (June 12, 2025) afternoon and a ground stop on all flights was in effect. Meanwhile, crews assessed the aircraft and passengers were bussed to the terminal, said Samantha Decker, with Massachusetts Port Authority, in an email. Passengers could be seen descending from the plane using stairs provided by emergency vehicles surrounded by dozens of emergency crews, according to an Associated Press journalist at the scene. The Airbus 220 was coming from Chicago. 'JetBlue flight 312 from Chicago to Boston veered off the runway and onto the grass after landing,' JetBlue said in an email. 'We will conduct a full investigation of the incident and will work closely with the relevant authorities to understand the cause.' The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating, a spokesperson said in an email. No further details have been provided about what caused the plane to veer off the runway. Thursday's (June 12, 2025) incident came as FAA officials have acknowledged they weren't doing enough to ensure air safety. Recent polling by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows that fewer Americans report feeling safe about flying this year. Additionally, an Air India passenger plane bound for London crashed into a medical college in Ahmedabad after takeoff Thursday (June 12, 2025), killing at least 240 people in one of India's worst airline disasters in decades, officials said.

JetBlue plane rolls off runway after landing at Boston Logan Airport

A JetBlue plane rolled off the runway while attempting to land at Boston Logan International Airport on Thursday. The Massachusetts Port Authority stated that there were no reported injuries, and it is not yet known what caused the plane to veer off. Security footage from the airport showed passengers exiting the Airbus A220 by the stairs after the aircraft came to a stop in a grassy area. The Independent has emailed JetBlue for comment. In a statement to The New York Times, the airline said: 'Safety is JetBlue's top priority. We will conduct a full investigation of the incident and will work closely with the relevant authorities to understand the cause.' Airport officials stopped flights from coming in and out of Boston Logan around noon following the rollover. The ground halt was lifted after 1 p.m. The aircraft departed Chicago O'Hare airport around 8.41 a.m with FlightAware data showing the plane landed in Boston around 11.49 a.m. The incident happened on the same day that 241 people were confirmed dead after an Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad, a city on the western side of India. The aircraft was headed to London Gatwick Airport and was carrying 242 passengers and crew and there was one sole survivor. At least 41 people are being treated for injuries.

John Nucci is retiring from Suffolk University, leaving a reshaped campus behind

'The entire footprint of the university has changed,' Nucci said. 'We now have a campus spine that runs along Tremont and Washington streets almost from City Hall [south] to Avery Street.' Advertisement Nucci said that when he first joined the Suffolk administration in 2006, after teaching there as an adjunct for 14 years, it was important to him to move the school away from the residential areas of Beacon Hill — to improve town-gown relations, and to modernize the school's buildings. 'If you stroll from one end of our downtown campus to the other ... you can see the hand of John Nucci,' Suffolk president Marisa Kelly said in a memo to staff, calling Nucci a critical liaison between the university and local civic leaders. During his lifelong career in public service, Nucci has served on the city's school board, the city council, and as clerk magistrate in Suffolk Superior Court. Advertisement Retirement is not the same as goodbye. Nucci will still serve on the Massachusetts Port Authority's board of directors, and he suspects he might get involved in civic affairs in some other capacity. 'The odds say that I won't be able to stay away from the action, but we'll see what happens,' Nucci said. 'For now, it's time to get off the merry-go-round.' This is an installment of our weekly Bold Types column about the movers and shakers on Boston's business scene. Jon Chesto can be reached at
