New Huawei MatePad 11.5 (2025) brings better PaperMatte tech, bigger battery
Peter, 11 July 2025 Amidst all the excitement over the Pura 80 global launch, Huawei also revealed a refreshed version of the MatePad 11.5 from 2023. The new model has a sharper display with improved PaperMatte tech, a bigger battery with faster charging and more. The 11.5' IPS LCD now has 2,450 x 1,600px resolution (256ppi, 3:2 aspect ratio), up from 2,200 x 1,200px. It runs at up to 120Hz refresh rate and 600 nits brightness (with DC dimming). The optional PaperMatte technology uses nano-etching to reduce reflections by 60% and light interference by 99%. A new circular polarization filter further improves visibility and viewing comfort and even works with sunglasses. With support for 3rd generation M-Pencil, the tablet can use AI to neaten up your handwriting, organize your handwritten notes and highlight the key points or just let you sketch, with or without AI's help. Huawei MatePad 11.5 (2025): Standard vs. PaperMatte edition • M-Pencil (3rd gen) support The refined Huawei MatePad 11.5 (2025) is slimmer, now measuring just 6.1mm (down from 6.9mm), but a bit heavier at 515g (up from 499g). Huawei says that it is 30% more durable than its predecessor. It's available in Violet and Space Gray. The Huawei MatePad 11.5 (2025) is available in Violet and Space Gray Part of the weight is the new 10,100mAh battery, which promises up to 14 hours of streaming on a single charge (the 2023 pad had a 7,700mAh battery). Additionally, charging has almost double the power now with 40W SuperCharge. The tablet drops the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and replaces it with an in-house Kirin 8020. There's a 67% larger graphite sheet to improve cooling. The tablet is equipped with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB storage. Chinese tech giant Huawei launched its Pura 80 smartphone series as it takes on the competition for camera photography prowess. The company launched the new smartphones, including the Huawei MatePad 11.5 tablet, on a hot Thursday evening in Dubai, UAE. Huawei's launch comes a day after Samsung launched its new Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 7 series, as the drive to gain market share intensifies. Pura 80 Originally rebranded in 2024, the Pura series combines avant-garde design with high-performance mobile technology and photography. One of the standout features of the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is the onboard artificial intelligence (AI), which allows the phone to process images using AI without the need for internet connectivity or data. The Huawei Pura 80 Pro and Ultra versions are equipped with a 1-inch Ultra Lighting HDR camera. Tablet With the convergence of education and technology, Huawei said the MatePad 11.5 is designed for both ambitious students and professionals entering the workforce. It has a 2.5K resolution with PaperMatte display, housed in an ultra-thin 6.1 mm frame, powered by a 10,100 mAh battery. There is also the M-Pencil (3rd generation), which introduces magnetic wireless charging. Pricing and availability Huawei said pricing for the Pura 80 series smartphones and MatePad 11.5 will be announced soon. South Africa will be getting the Pura 80 Pro and Ultra, which will be available in black gold and red. The new devices are expected to be available in South Africa from 7 August.
