Italy script history, secure maiden T20 WC spot alongside Netherlands
The final day of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier delivered a thrilling finish as Italy and the Netherlands clinched the two available spots for the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, set to take place in India and Sri Lanka. In a historic milestone, Italy secured qualification for the T20 World Cup for the first time ever. Heading into the final day, all four teams, Netherlands, Italy, Jersey, and Scotland, were still mathematically in the race to qualify. Italy faced the Netherlands in a high-stakes clash, knowing they had to keep the match competitive even in defeat to stay alive on net run rate (NRR). After being restricted to 134/7, Italy's qualification hopes hinged on slowing down the Dutch chase. Italy, Netherlands book T20 World Cup berth Despite a blazing start from the Netherlands, particularly through openers Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd, Italy managed to drag the game deep. The Netherlands eventually chased down the target in the 17th over, just late enough for Italy to maintain a superior NRR over Jersey, who had earlier stunned Scotland with their first-ever win against them. Italy's innings was built on a steady knock by Benjamin Manenti and a late flourish from Grant Stewart, who gave the innings much-needed momentum after consistent wicket losses. Dutch spinner Roelof van der Merwe was outstanding with the ball, finishing with figures of 3/15 in four overs, while Kyle Klein also kept things tight. Although the Netherlands won the match comfortably, Italy had done just enough to cross the qualification line, celebrating a historic achievement for Italian cricket. Jersey's heartbreak was amplified by the qualification equation: had both Jersey and Italy won, they would have advanced together. However, Jersey's win and Italy's loss meant only one of them could progress, and Italy edged ahead on net run rate. With Italy and the Netherlands joining the qualified teams, 15 nations have now secured their places for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The remaining five spots will be filled through the Asia-East Asia Pacific and Africa Qualifiers in the coming months.

In the end, both Netherlands and Italy booked their tickets for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka. This marks a historic moment for Italy, who have qualified for the T20 World Cup for the first time ever. Despite losing to the Netherlands, Italy managed to go through on net run rate. After scoring 134/7, Italy needed to make sure the Netherlands didn't chase the target too quickly, in order to maintain the required NRR. Even though the Dutch got off to a fast start thanks to Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd, Italy managed to stretch the game to the 17th over—just enough to seal their spot. Earlier, Netherlands restricted Italy well with the ball. Roelof van der Merwe was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs. Kyle Klein also kept things tight for his side. Italy struggled to build big partnerships and kept losing wickets. However, a steady knock from Benjamin Manenti and a quick finish by Grant Stewart helped them reach 134/7. Netherlands chased the target with ease, but Italy also secured a historic win in the process. Meanwhile, Jersey missed out on qualification despite beating Scotland for the first time. On the final day, the equations for qualify were that both Jersey and Italy would qualify if both teams won. However, if Jersey and the Netherlands won, only one from Italy and Jersey would qualify on the basis of net run rate, along with the Dutch. Poll Which team's qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup surprised you the most? Netherlands Italy So far, 15 teams have qualified for the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. First-ever T20 triple Super Over as Netherlands beat Nepal
THE Netherlands beat Nepal but needed a record-breaking three Super Overs to clinch victory in their Twenty20 tri-series match in Glasgow on Monday, the first time a triple Super Over has been seen in T20 or limited-overs cricket. The Dutch posted 152 for seven and appeared set for the win as Nepal required 16 runs from the final over, but Nandan Yadav scored a boundary on the last ball to force a Super Over. Nepal made 19 runs which the Dutch matched thanks to Max O'Dowd hitting a six on the final ball, and a second Super Over was needed for only the second time in men's international cricket, after India and Afghanistan last year. The Netherlands, batting first, hit 17 runs and Nepal again stayed in the match after Dipendra Singh Airee hit a six on the last ball to mark the first instance of a third Super Over. It failed to live up to the drama of the previous two with Nepal failing to score a single run and with the Dutch needing just one run, Michael Levitt smashed a six to finally seal the win for the Netherlands. The Dutch, who lost their opening match of the series with Scotland on Monday, have a rest day on Tuesday to recover but Nepal are straight back into action against the Scots.

Netherlands and Nepal overdeliver in triple Super Over tussle
After 40 overs failed to separate the two teams in Glasgow, both scoring 152 in their respective innings, the teams walked back out for the first Super Over, both plundering 19 runs in six balls. Having taken the match to a second Super Over through a Max O'Dowd four, the Dutch batted first in the second Super Over, hitting 13 runs off the first three balls, though were held at the end of the over through a wicket to Lalit Rajbanshi to finish with 17. It was Nepal's turn to match the lofty six-ball score set, with Rohit Paudel and Dipendra Singh Airee combining with 17 between them, capped off with an Airee six to trigger unprecedented scenes in the international game. Eventually, it was the Dutch to hold their nerve, with Zach Lion-Cachet's spin taking two wickets and ending Nepal's third crack at breaking the deadlock, with the Dutch youngster also at the other end for Michael Levitt's six to finally finish proceedings. It's the first time a men's professional T20 match has needed a third Super Over across domestic, franchise, and International cricket.
