Stefon Diggs tells Drake Maye: Don't be afraid to give me the mustard

Stefon Diggs knows that Drake Maye has a big arm. He wants his new quarterback to let it rip. That was the message from Maye's new No. 1 receiver with the New England Patriots during a summer throwing session earlier this week. After catching a pass from Maye, Diggs said that he was expecting the ball to come in hot. So he told his quarterback: Don't hold back. 'Hey, don't be scared to put that (expletive) mustard on there. I know you got it in there,' Diggs said. After the mention of mustard, one of Diggs' teammates chimed in by echoing the popular line, 'Mustaaard!' from the Kendrick Lamar song of the same name. As always, the line was infectious. 'Mustaaard!' Diggs yelled in reply. As shown in a video on Kendrick Bourne's YouTube channel, Patriots receivers traveled to Maye's home state of North Carolina for a series of players-only passing sessions. The group started out at William Amos Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina before moving to Davidson College for their final session. In addition to Maye, Diggs and Bourne, other players present at the throwing sessions included DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams, Ja'Lynn Polk, Hunter Henry, Rhamondre Stevenson and backup quarterback Josh Dobbs. STM workers warn of strike this fall if negotiations drag on

By The threat of another public transit strike looms this fall. Workers for the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) protested the sluggish contract negotiations outside the Youville maintenance garage on St-Laurent Blvd. on Thursday at noon, warning the 2,400 maintenance staff are prepared to walk out again if their demands aren't met. A maintenance worker in the STM's steam department, Jacqueline Maye, said that since the last strike in June, there have been nine negotiation meetings between the employer and the Syndicat du transport de Montréal. Even though a mediator has facilitated the meetings, she said 'nothing is moving forward.' 'Nobody wants to go on strike, but going on strike is the only way we can be heard,' Maye said at the transit workers' protest. She noted employees are limited in what they can do during a strike because they are considered an essential service, and that the parameters of a future strike would be similar to the last one. The nine-day STM strike last month caused major disruptions for transit users: bus and métro services were completely cut at certain times and reduced at others, forcing commuters to find another way to work, school and home. Union president Bruno Jeanotte said even though the strike heavily impacted Montrealers, working conditions still haven't improved. 'We saw that the impact of striking was very minimal at the negotiation table,' he told reporters at the protest Thursday. 'We are nine days into full negotiations with the employer. We still haven't received the employer's priorities,' Jeanotte said, adding that the union representatives made their demands clear at the first meeting. A major sticking point is the STM outsourcing maintenance work from the private sector, which Maye worries could lead to job cuts. 'We have all of the professionals here right on place to do the job, and at the end of the day, it ends up being cheaper,' she said. Warehouse assistant Marie-Ange Museghe, who has been working in STM's bus parts supply department for two decades, said there is a risk the STM will change her working hours if the union doesn't succeed in the negotiations. 'Right now, I start at 7 a.m. and work until 3 p.m., and if we switch, I might have to work until 6 p.m. and I might have to go to places where it's harder for me to get to than where I've been,' she said in an interview. 'It'll be hard to balance work and family. My hours won't be possible,' adding that the schedule change could push her to leave her job. In response to the protest, STM spokesperson Amélie Régis wrote they believe negotiations are moving in the right direction. 'We are fully respecting the agreed deadlines and continuing our work in a reasoned and constructive manner,' she wrote in an email statement to The Gazette. 'Since the end of the strike and the appointment of the mediator, meetings have been taking place at the rate of two to three days a week,' she said, noting there are three meetings this week and there are three planned for next week, with a three-week summer break scheduled for the end of July during the mediator's vacation.

Watch: Patriots CB challenges Drake Maye to throw at him in practice

EP. 2 DROPS ON FRIDAY 🚨📺 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝘅𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 on & Patriots YouTube.@MassGenBrigham | #NEPats Things got competitive on the spring practice field for the New England Patriots during the offseason. The latest Forged in Foxborough trailer captured a brief exchange on the field between quarterback Drake Maye and veteran cornerback Carlton Davis III during an 11-on-11 period. Davis could be seen blanketing wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on a route. Maye saw that the receiver was covered and went to the next read, leaving a jokingly frustrated Davis shouting out to him throughout the play. "Throw it, throw the [expletive] ball. Throw the ball," Davis shouted. It was obviously friendly competition between teammates, and it will likely get even more competitive when the pads come on at training camp. "You didn't wanna give me that one over there?" Davis asked Maye after the play. Maye promptly responded, "I see you." The thought of iron sharpening iron should only mean good things for Maye and the Patriots' offense. They will have their hands full at training camp against a much-improved defense with Davis and All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez flanking the outside receivers. If the offense can make plays against that cornerback tandem, they should feel confident in their ability to make plays against anyone in the NFL. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

Drake Maye skeptic sees 'a lot of hope' with Josh McDaniels returning

Not everyone is a believer in Drake Maye's talent. Count former head coach and New England Patriots former defensive coach Eric Mangini as one of those skeptics. That isn't to say he sees no paths for success in Maye's NFL journey. He is simply skeptical of the talent translating to great effect in the NFL. However, he did recently admit that the Patriots bringing back Josh McDaniels as an offensive coordinator could be a game-changer for the 2024 first-round draft pick. "I am very skeptical about Drake Maye, but I do believe he has his best chance to be successful and have a breakout season with Josh McDaniels," Mangini said on First Things First. "And I do think that Mac Jones owes a lot of his success to Josh McDaniels. If Drake Maye is bright, which is sounds like he is—if he's hard working, which it sounds like he is—he has an opportunity to grow in a substantial way in this offense, which is well put together, well thought out and should lean into a lot of his skill sets. So there's a lot of hope." Mac Jones' best NFL season came in his rookie year with McDaniels as his offensive coordinator. He racked up 3,801 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and earned a Pro Bowl nod as a rookie quarterback. The Patriots had the seventh-ranked scoring offense in the league with Jones under center that year. Of course, that all changed the moment McDaniels accepted the head coaching job with the Las Vegas Raiders. This will be an opportunity for him to capture some of that same magic again with Maye at quarterback. Maye is a more dynamic playmaker with the ability to impact the game in significantly more ways than Jones ever could. So there is great interest in seeing what that talent looks like married up with McDaniels' offensive concepts. It could change things in a major way for the struggling Patriots offense in 2025. They got no wedding gifts, didn't receive any.'
