'Saral Vizha' in Courtallam ends with colourful dog show
The annual 'Saral Vizha' in Courtallam, which commenced on July 20, concluded here on Sunday. The events for the 'Saral Vizha' was organised at the Kalaivanar auditorium in Courtallam, where cultural programs and various competitions were held every day. A flower exhibition was also organised for six days at the Eco Park near the Courtallam waterfalls. The eight-day long festival concluded with a grand finale presided over by District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore. The final day featured traditional dance, dramas, folk art performances, 'Mayilattam' and musical programs. As part of the celebrations, a dog show was held at the Viswanathar Park in Courtallam. The event showcased 150 dogs belonging to 30 different breeds. A team of professors of Government Veterinary College in Tirunelveli examined the dogs' health and performance and selected the best ones. Special prizes were awarded to the top performing dogs in all 30 breeds, including native breeds and foreign breeds, with the top two winners in each category receiving special awards. The event was attended by officials from Department of Animal Husbandry and veterinarians.

Neithal arts festival to begin in Tuticorin on June 13
1 2 3 Tuticorin: The fourth edition of the Neithal Arts Festival, a celebration of Tamil folk culture and artistic heritage, will be held from June 13 to 15 at VOC College Ground in Tuticorin. The festival is an initiative of MP Kanimozhi. More than 300 folk artists from across Tamil Nadu will participate, presenting over 20 traditional performances including Karagattam, Mayilattam, Oyilattam, Thevarattam, Paraiyattam, Kuchiyattam, Thudumbattam, Jimbala Melam, and Poikkal Kuthirai. Performances will take place each evening from 5 pm to 10 pm. A traditional food exhibition with over 20 stalls will offer indigenous dishes from various regions of Tamil Nadu, promoting local culinary heritage and supporting small-scale food artisans. The festival will open on June 13 with Mangala Isai by the Government Music School, followed by folk performances. Highlights on June 14 include Devarattam, Perunchalangaiyattam, and a Mallar Kambam act by artists with disabilities. Thoothukudi to host fourth edition of 'Neithal' folk arts festival from June 13
Thoothukudi is all set to host the fourth edition of the 'Neithal', festival, a three-day event celebrating Tamil folk culture and artistic heritage from June 13 to June 15. Initiated by the Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, the three-day festival will take place at the V.O.C college ground in Thoothukudi. Similar to the past few years, this year's festival will also feature over 300 artistes from across Tamil Nadu, presenting more than 20 traditional performances belonging to the State, each evening from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The exciting line up of the folk art forms including 'Karakattam', 'Mayilattam', 'Oyilattam', 'Devarattam', 'Parai Attam', 'Jimbala melam', 'poikkal kuthirai' etc,. were planned at the festival, offering a rich cultural experiences to the audience. In addition to the stage performances, the festival will also feature a traditional food exhibition with over 20 stalls, showcasing indigenous dishes from different regions of Tamil Nadu. The initiative was aimed to highlight the state's rich culinary heritage while supporting the local food artisans by giving them a wider platform. The festival which is set to commence on June 13 will begin with 'Mangala Isai' followed by the cultural performances of different troupes. On June 14, the festival will feature performances including 'Devarattam', 'Perunchalagai attam' and music bands featuring famous singers. The final day June 15 to be concluded with performances by Thoothukudi Government Music School followed by different folk artiste troupes.

Devotees participate in Sri Sankararameswarar temple car festival with great fervour in Thoothukudi
The annual Chithirai car festival of Sri Sankararameswarar temple in Thoothukudi held on Saturday with great fervor, drawing hundreds of devotees from various parts of Thoothukudi and neighboring Tirunelveli districts. Popularly known as Sivan temple, located in the heart of Thoothukudi city, the festival began with flag-hoisting ceremony on May 1. As part of the festival special pujas were conducted every morning and evening and the deities along with their consorts were taken on a procession through the four streets. The highlight of the annual festival, the temple car procession attracted a large number of devotees who enthusiastically pulled the temple car using the vadams (ropes). The temple car was attractively decorated with cloth canopies featuring colorful motifs, floral arrangements and banana plantains. Preceding the procession were vibrant traditional performances such as Mayilattam, Oyilattam, Karagattam, Rajamelam, Thappattam, and Kailayavathiyam. The festivities included women's Kolattam, singing of Thevaram hymns, recitation of vedas, and martial demonstrations by the school students. Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment P. Geetha Jeevan, Thoothukudi Mayor Jegan Periyasamy, and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Trust department's Joint Commissioner Anbumani were present.
