Iran to lead conventional refinery capacity growth in the Middle East by 2030
The Middle East is anticipated to be a pivotal region in terms of the global conventional refinery capacity additions, expected to contribute over a quarter of the total capacity additions by 2030. This growth is underpinned by large-scale projects, particularly in Iran and Iraq. Both countries are leveraging their vast crude oil reserves to expand refining infrastructure, aiming to meet rising domestic demand, reduce imports of refined products, and strengthen export capabilities. Iran is set to dominate conventional refinery capacity additions in the Middle East, accounting for over 40% of the region's capacity additions by 2030. This can be attributed to several factors, including government support, strategic infrastructure expansion, and a focus on energy self-sufficiency. A total of 15 new-build and expansion projects are expected to come online in Iran by 2030. New-build projects lead the count and are also set to account for over 90% of the country's total capacity additions by 2030. Among these, Jask II is a major refinery project with substantial capacity additions during the outlook period. Petro Tejarat Shahin is the operator and equity owner of this new-build project. Currently in the front-end engineering design stage, the project is expected to commence operations in 2028 with an announced capacity of 6,000 barrels per day (bpd). Other significant new-build projects such as Siraf and Shahid Ghasem Soleimani further underscore Iran's commitment to expanding its refining capacity during the outlook period. Iraq is expected to follow Iran in terms of refinery capacity additions, with nearly 1.9 million barrels per day of capacity expected to be added by 2030. The country's refinery landscape is equally shaped by both new-build and expansion projects. New build projects lead the capacity additions in the country, accounting for 65% of the total capacity additions by 2030. Around 28% of the upcoming refinery capacity is under construction while the remaining is in the preconstruction stages. Basra II is a major refinery new-build project in Iraq with substantial capacity additions of 300bpd during the outlook period. South Refineries is the operator and equity owner of this project set to begin operations in 2027. Maysan and Nassiriya II are some other major new-build projects with significant capacity additions during the outlook period. Oman stands third in terms of refinery capacity additions, with nearly 695,000bpd of capacity expected to be added by 2030. New-build projects account for most of the capacity additions in the country. Among these, Duqm IV and Duqm III are some major projects with substantial capacity additions, with 300bpd and 200bpd, respectively. Iraq starts work on $800mln expansion of Al-Diwaniyah refinery
Iraq has launched an $800 million expansion project at Al-Diwaniyah refinery, which is expected to significantly boost the country's crude refining capacity. The upgrade will add new refining units to increase capacity by 70,000 barrels per day (bpd), raising the refinery's total capacity to 90,000 bpd, reports by the Iraq News Agency (INA) and the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office said. The expansion project, remotely launched by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani includes units for processing liquefied gas with a capacity of 180 tonnes per day, a gasoline improvement unit with a capacity of 10,000 bpd, a naphtha isomerisation unit (8,000 bpd) and a naphtha hydrotreating unit (18,000 bpd). Additional components involve facilities for producing white oil, gas oil, and fuel oil, as well as nitrogen production, power generation, and storage and pumping stations. The Iraqi PMO said the country expects to achieve full self-sufficiency in oil derivatives and begin exporting petroleum products upon the completion of refinery expansions in Maysan, Al-Diwaniyah, and Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf, the news agency reported. Iraq aims to convert 40 percent of its produced oil into refining and downstream industries to meet domestic demand and support exports. (Writing by P Deol; Editing by Anoop Menon) (

Iraq's OEC set to implement 30 oil projects as part of 5-year plan: Report
Iraqi government-owned Oil Exploration Company (OEC) expects to implement more than 30 projects as part of its five-year plan, a news report said. The most prominent projects are in the Western Habbaniyah, close to Baghdad, in Anbar Governorate, and south of Al-Faka in Maysan Governorate, Al-Sabaah, an Arabic newspaper reported, citing OEC Director General Dr. Osama Raouf Hussein. Two other important projects are located in Nineveh, near Mosul, the report said. More than 200 formations have not yet been explored or drilled, Hussein said, adding that these promising reserves will translate into oil or gas after exploratory drilling operations. The company is undertaking seismic surveys, with potentially 50 geophysical investigations taking place after the data is processed to determine exploration locations, the official said. The Western Desert is among the most promising gas regions, Hussein said. OEC will work on several projects in the coming years, with 90 percent of these being gas-related, the report stated. Raj Bhavan to run fully on solar power soon: Governor
1 2 Bhubaneswar: The Raj Bhavan will be fully solar soon with plans to install a solar power plant of 400 kW. "It already has a 150 kW plant," governor Hari Babu Kambhampati said here on Saturday. "This should happen within the next three to four months. Raj Bhavan's electricity bill would drop to zero from the current Rs 3 lakh per month," he told media persons, adding this would be a significant step towards making the governor's house a net-zero energy campus. Highlighting his commitment to the green mission, Kambhampati said a fleet of Made-in-India electric vehicles has been introduced in the Raj Bhavan. These include four official cars in his fleet besides two-wheelers for staff members. The governor appealed to people to opt for solar energy by taking benefits of central schemes such as PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana through rooftop solar installations and PM KUSUM Yojana meant for farmers to install solar pump sets for tubewells used in irrigation.
