How Mazda Plans To Outsmart America's Harsh Tariffs
Manufacturers importing vehicles and related components into the United States are all trying to find inventive ways to mitigate the effect of the Trump administration's tariffs, which are expected to increase the price of a new car by almost $2,000. Among the hardest-hit brands are European and Japanese, as they rely more heavily on imports. Mazda is part of this group, which is why the Japanese marque has hatched a new plan to reduce the impact of tariffs in the USA, but it may not be one you expect. Mazda's plan involved increasing sales in its domestic market of Japan by a third. Currently, the brand sells around 150,000 models annually in Japan, but it wants to boost that number to 200,000 units "as early as possible," reports Automotive News. Using its experience of growing the brand in the United States, Mazda will grow domestic sales, too. This process will go beyond its range of cars, as Mazda will also optimize its sales network and relook at its marketing strategy. "Considering various situations including the most recent tariffs, we think there is a pressing need to rebolster and accelerate our domestic business," said Tadashi Miura, Mazda president. After the USA, Japan is Mazda's biggest market, but it only makes up approximately 10 percent of the brand's global sales. Five other Japanese brands all outsell Mazda domestically, these being Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Suzuki, and Daihatsu. It all means that there is room for Mazda to increase sales in Japan. The 25% tariffs impact most of Mazda's US lineup, from the CX-5 to the CX-70 and CX-90, all popular crossovers. These models are produced in Japan, as is the MX-5 Miata sports car. An exception is the CX-50, which became the first Mazda to be produced at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA plant in Huntsville, Alabama. Jointly owned by Mazda and Toyota, the plant also builds the subcompact Toyota Corolla Cross. As Toyota's relationship with Mazda deepens, the possibility exists for more Mazda models to be produced at the Huntsville plant. However, this could take a lot of time, which is why it's wise for Mazda to look at multiple opportunities, including the drive to boost sales in Japan. Last month, Mazda sales declined by over 6% in the USA compared to May 2024, indicating that the effect of tariffs are already being felt, just as the brand predicted. It remains to be seen how quickly and effectively Mazda can halt this trend, and that may come down to its initiative in Japan. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Texas man confesses to ‘snapping' and strangling his missing flight attendant roommate: cops
A grizzled Texas man confessed to strangling his flight attendant roommate during an argument — then tossing her remains from a bridge, according to reports. Dennis William Day, of Fort Worth, was arrested and charged Thursday with the murder of 47-year-old Rana Nofal Soluri, a flight attendant for Envoy Air who was missing for months, CBS News reported. 3 Dennis William Day, of Fort Worth, was arrested and charged with the murder of 47-year-old Rana Nofal Soluri, a flight attendant for Envoy Air who vanished in March. Tarrant County Jail Advertisement Soluri was reported missing on June 11 by a coworker at the American Airlines regional carrier, who had not spoken to her since March 19 when a text conversation was suddenly cut off, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the outlet. The flight attendant had been living with Day for about a year and had recently taken a leave of absence for a minor surgery. She was expected to return to work on March 31 but never returned, authorities detailed. After a series of visits to Day and Soluri's home, detectives began to piece together a disturbing timeline. Advertisement On May 8, officers went to the residence to tow Soluri's car, a 2023 Mazda she had purchased just a week before going missing. Day reportedly told them the vehicle had been sitting out front for nearly two months, and he hadn't seen Soluri in that time, the arrest warrant said. 3 Day allegedly confessed to strangling Soluri on the kitchen floor after 'snapping' when she threatened to call the police. Facebook During another welfare check a month later, he told detectives that he hadn't seen Soluri in months and showed little concern, according to the document. Advertisement On June 23, detectives searched Day's home and found surveillance footage of him dragging what appeared to be a lifeless body into his backyard, the arrest warrant stated. In a follow-up interview, Day allegedly confessed to 'snapping' and strangling Soluri on the kitchen floor because she threatened to call the police, the document detailed. It is not immediately clear why Soluri had threatened to call the police. He then allegedly moved her body outside and disconnected the surveillance system after realizing the sick act was caught on camera. Advertisement 3 Footage captured Day dragging a lifeless body into his backyard. FOX News Day allegedly told detectives he put Soluri's body in a black trash bin, drove it to an area near Bowie, Texas, and dumped it off a bridge. On the way, he allegedly tossed her phone into a river near Interstate 35 and later got rid of many of her belongings and tossed a revolver down a storm drain, the warrant said. Cell phone data showed Soluri's last outgoing call happened on March 21 and had pinged just before midnight near Scott Avenue, which matched where Day claimed to have dumped it, the outlet reported. A revolver matching one owned by Soluri was also recovered by police. Despite Day directing officers to multiple locations, Soluri's remains have not been recovered. Flooding in the area may have swept her body away, the outlet said. Day was booked into Tarrant County Jail and has been held on $200,000 bond.

New Dragon Ball diecast cars set to roll onto fans' desks and into their hearts【Photos】
Goku's Flying Nimbus and Bulma's bike to be joined by two new anime vehicles this summer. Toymaker Takara Tomy's Tomica line is essentially Japan's version of Hot Wheels, compact detailed diecast versions of cars that captivate the imagination of kids and kids-at-heart. Of course, with Tomica being a Japanese brand, there's a greater emphasis on vehicles people in Japan are familiar with, such as models from Mazda, Nissan, and Dragon Ball. In the Dream Tomica project, Takara Tomy teams up with famous franchises from the anime/manga world, handling these inspirations with the same level of respect of craftsmanship as they do real-world cars. For the first round of the Dream Tomica x Dragon Ball collaboration, the designers started with Goku's Flying Nimbus and Bulma's motorcycle. Now the second batch of Dragon Ball Tomica toys are getting ready to roll out, with one of the new designs being Master Roshi/Kame Sennin's Wagon, as seen on the cover of the 12th collected volume of the manga. And since the Tomica Dream line isn't limited to terrestrial transportation, the other new model is a miniature version of the Red Ribbon Army's Small Aircraft, first scene in Chapter 70 of the original Dragon Ball manga. Size-wise, Master Roshi's Wagon is 6 centimeters (2.4 inches) long, and the Red Ribbon aircraft is just a bit shorter, at 5.76 centimeters. All of the Dragon Ball Tomica are priced at 1,320 yen (US$9.10), and Goku's Flying Nimbus and Bulma's bike can already be ordered through the Takara Tomy Mall online shop here and here. Pre-orders for the two new models will open through the site on June 30, with shipping scheduled for mid-August, which is also when the toys will start showing up in retail stores in Japan, so you've got until then to sort out the parking situation for these new additions if they're going to be sharing space with your Studio Ghibli Dream Tomica cars.
