McDonald's brings back popular menu item after nine years
Launched in 2006 amid the chain's attempts to reach more drive-thru customers, the McDonald's (MCD) Snack Wrap spent 10 years on the menu before eventually getting discontinued in 2016. At the time, the fast-food giant's corporate team wanted to speed up back-of-house operations and felt that the time it took employees to assemble the chicken, lettuce, shredded cheddar and Monterrey cheese and choice of customer sauce in a tortilla wrap could be better redirected to a simpler menu of classics. But in the 10 years it spent on menus both in the U.S. and countries such as Canada, Poland and Australia, the Snack Wrap developed a small cult following - between 2016 and 2025, frequent customers have periodically clamored for its return. It did make a short reappearance in select markets in 2020 but disappeared nearly as quickly as it returned. Don't miss the move: SIGN UP for TheStreet's FREE Daily newsletter McDonald's first teased the possibility of a Snack Wrap return in December 2023 when it first said that a rebranded McCrispy Snack Wrap would hit menus at some point in 2025. Last April, McDonald's sent out a cryptic tweet promising a much closer Snack Wrap return while U.S. President Joe Erlinger confirmed it with a statement that he gets "so many emails into my inbox about this product." Without much prior warning, McDonald's has now suddenly start selling Snack Wraps from July 10. Available in either a ranch and spicy version habanero sauce, the revamped Snack Wrap sells for $2.99 and is made almost entirely like the version from the past with chicken, cheese and lettuce wrapped together in a flour tortilla. In a nod to a past meal combo that many fans also remember, the Snack Wrap will also be available as a combo with two wraps, a medium fries and a soft drink. "They're the ones who inspired us to make its return to the menu happen." The chain has not specified whether the Snack Wrap will be a seasonal promotion or is once again a permanent menu item; as of now, it is available to order after the chain switches from its breakfast hours. Leaning heavily into its chicken offering, McDonald's has also launched the McChicken Biscuit and Chicken McGriddle breakfast sandwiches in select Michigan markets earlier this summer. Both were first made available in 2020 but eventually discontinued as the country emerged from the covid-19 pandemic; now they are part of the "Chicken For Breakfast" campaign that McDonald's launched in Michigan earlier this year. All three returning items follow the high-profile launch of the McDonald's McCrispy Strips back in May.
