Cold Lake restaurant manager honoured as one of Canada's best for the second time

This award places her in the top five per cent of McDonald's managers across more than 1,450 restaurants nationwide. It recognizes not only excellence in restaurant operations but also exceptional leadership and community involvement, according to information from the restaurant chain. For Cabagui, who first earned the award in 2021, the recognition is as humbling as it is exciting. 'It was surprising when I learned I had gotten this award,' said Cabagui. 'I'm honestly prouder of my team for helping me put my all into this work, they are at the heart of everything I do.' Originally from the Philippines, Cabagui began her Canadian McDonald's journey in 2014 as a food service supervisor in Cold Lake. She quickly proved her leadership potential, stepping into scheduling responsibilities and rising through the ranks to become general manager, and now Market People Lead for both Cold Lake and Bonnyville locations. 'I believe that I have been born a leader . . . that has been my gift given by God,' she said. Over the last eight years as general manager, Cabagui has become known not only for her work ethic, managing both the Cold Lake and Bonnyville locations, but for her deep commitment to her team and community. For her, success is not about being at the top alone, it's about lifting others up with her. 'I want everybody on top with me. So, everybody can be me eventually and I'm going to train everybody to become me.' Cold Lake McDonald's franchisee Maymunah Jutt praised Cabagui's dedication and compassion, saying, 'Yahnee is people-oriented, through and through. She always puts people first, loves directing and listening to whatever anyone needs. She has ketchup in her blood.' That passion extends far beyond the restaurant. Cabagui is a regular supporter of local initiatives and charitable programs. She plays a key role in organizing McHappy Day events that involve local RCMP members, firefighters, military personnel, and elected officials coming together to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. She's also involved in school hot lunch programs, the Positive Ticketing campaign for youth in Lakeland, and hopes to launch a kid-friendly McDonald's workshop this summer. 'Community involvement is very important . . . we are not just into the business but really a part of the community as a family.' She sees McDonald's as more than just a workplace, but a platform for personal development, especially for young employees. 'This is a stepping stone for them with the confidence and the connection with other people . . . This is a very good experience in terms of public relation and the general communication of a person.' Though she describes herself as a self-proclaimed workaholic, saying, 'my life in Cold Lake and Bonnyville is just work, home, work, home,' Cabagui also says the award reflects not just her efforts, but the heart and hard work of an entire team. 'I more so feel like this award is for my people . . . I'm not here if they're not there for me and work with me.' Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. Barrie's McHappy Day raises almost $77K for RVH's tiniest patients and their families

Thanks to local McDonald's owners and staff, more than $38,000 from McHappy Day is helping RVH build a modern, family-centred NICU for newborns. Oh what a difference we made in the lives of our most vulnerable on McHappy Day. Barrie residents helped raise $76,847 to support Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre's (RVH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Ronald McDonald House in Toronto. More than $38,000 of those funds will help RVH build a state-of-the-art intensive care unit for babies, which will have enough space for families to bond with their little ones during those crucial first days. Currently, RVH's NICU is in an open-concept space where families are just separated by curtains and small space dividers. In a statement from the hospital's foundation, they note, 'There's little room for parents to rest, and be active participants in their baby's care, and little space for the advanced equipment that fragile newborns rely on.' 'Parents in our NICU are doing everything they can to be there for their newborns but they're doing it in a space that's stretched beyond its limits,' said Mary-Anne Frith, incoming chairperson of RVH Foundation's Board of Directors and chairperson of the Keep Life Wild campaign. 'A new NICU changes that—giving families the privacy and space to bond without barriers. That kind of space isn't just a luxury. It's part of how babies heal.' Money raised also supports Ronald McDonald House in Toronto, which is available if local families need to head off to SickKids.

McDonald's UAE to donate 100% of Sundae sales on June 12

McDonald's UAE will mark its first-ever McHappy Day on Thursday, 12th June with a nationwide initiative aiming to improve access to free healthcare for those in need across the UAE. For the full day, 100% of proceeds from all Sundae sales at McDonald's UAE restaurants, and through the McDonald's App, will be donated to the Red Crescent Medical Center. This initiative builds on McDonald's UAE's longstanding partnership with Emirates Red Crescent, now in its seventh year. As temperatures rise across the country, customers are invited to cool down and enjoy one of McDonald's signature menu items – the Sundae, available in Caramel, Strawberry and Hot Fudge flavors, while supporting a meaningful cause. The special day reflects McDonald's UAE's ongoing commitment to the local community, with every Sundae purchase helping to enhance the Red Crescent Medical Center's medical services. 'McHappy Day is about coming together to create meaningful change,' said Walid Fakih, CEO at McDonald's UAE. 'We've been raising donations for the Red Crescent Medical Center for the past two years and we've seen first-hand the difference this support makes. In the spirit of the UAE's Year of Community, with the continued generosity of our customers, we remain committed to finding new and impactful ways to raise donations and support communities across the UAE.' The Red Crescent Medical Center is the only healthcare facility in the UAE offering free treatments to individuals, regardless of age, gender, or nationality. McHappy Day builds on McDonald's UAE's year-round support for the Medical Center, which includes ongoing donation through the in-store kiosks and via the McDonald's App through Rewards Points. McDonald's UAE invites everyone to take part in McHappy Day on June 12 by visiting any McDonald's UAE restaurant, or order through the McDonald's App, to enjoy a Sundae and make a meaningful difference.

Windsor McDonald's franchisee one of Top 3 fundraisers in Canada

A Windsor McDonald's franchisee is one of the Top 3 fundraisers across Canada. Franchisee Jason Trussell raised over $224,000 in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Houses in Windsor and London. 'We are so grateful to everyone who stopped by on McHappy Day to show their support for the RMHC Houses in Windsor and London,' says Jason Trussell. 'This total reflects the unwavering support of our restaurant teams and our community and will go a long way towards supporting families across our region.' This year, Trussell and his team sold over 4,300 pairs of socks and raised over $5,500 in paper heart donations, contributing to raising this exceptional amount for the RMHC Houses in Windsor and London. He and his team also held other fundraising initiatives throughout the year in support of the RMHC Houses in Windsor and London, such as Big Red Shoe Run and Ronald's House of Champions in partnership with fellow McDonald's franchisee, Matt Tatomir. By ordering their favourite McDonald's meals and menu items, your community made a direct, positive impact on local families with sick or injured children. They helped bring smiles and happiness to those who need it most.
