McHose And Unbox Therapy Join Forces To Launch Their First Co-Branded Keyboard

The McHose UT98 is a joint venture with Unboxed Therapy headed by Canadian Lewis Hilsenteger. Here ... More it is in the Retro Therapy colorway. Computer peripherals brand McHose has joined forces with global tech review platform Unbox Therapy to launch a co-branded keyboard. The new UT98 mechanical keyboard, will launch on Kickstarter from July 17, 2025. The partnership with McHose began last August when Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy was sent a McHose GX87 keyboard. He was impressed by the GX87's soft and bouncy typing experience and featured it in a review video. Apparently, the response was overwhelming and the video received over five million views and garnered widespread praise. Among the praise, some viewers also pointed out that the audible keystroke sound of the GX87 keyboard could be distracting in quieter environments like offices, libraries or shared workspaces. In response, McHose and UT descried to join forces and create a new keyboard with the same tactile feel of the GX87, but with a quieter key sound. The Classic Therapy version of the McHose UT98 has a a black-and white theme with a modern and ... More minimalist look. Months Of Collaboration After months of working on the new keyboard and refining the design, the UT98 keyboard was ready for prime time. It's a 98% compact layout with a Cherry profile, numeric keypad, with a full row of function keys and a cursor cluster. The UT98 is available with a choice of two types of hot-swappable switches to suit different typing styles. The UT98 is compatible with any MX-style switches using 3 or 5 pins. The first switch option on the UT98 keyboard is the Silent Peach V3, which has an operating force of 40g, a pre-travel distance of 2mm and a total travel of 3mm. The Silent Peach switches are ultra-quiet with a sound rating less than 35dB. These are switches best suited to anyone working in a shared space or a busy office. The second switch type is the Icy Creamsicle. This is one of McHose's most popular switches and has a reputation for being exceptionally smooth, fast and with a creamy feel. These are Linear/HiFi switches and recommended for gamers. They have a 40gf actuation force, pre-travel distance of 2mm and an overall travel of 3.30mm. McHose offers a choice of switch with the UT98. The switches are hot swappable and there is a choice ... More of the Silent Peach V3 switch or the Icy Creamsicle linear switch which is suited to gaming. Gasket Mount Design The advanced gasket mount design of the UT98 includes five layers of sound-dampening materials including Poron foam, IPXE foam, IPET film, bottom cotton and silicone gaskets. The result is smooth and quiet keystrokes with low vibration for reduced impact and a satisfying sound. The layered structure enhances stability and improves comfort. The UT98 has a knurled rotary control that functions as a volume adjuster and can mute the computer's audio when pressed. There's also a dedicated key that will launch the Windows calculator. There are modifier keys for macOS and Windows systems included in the box. McHose says its UT98 keyboard is a tribute to the Unbox Therapy brand. After several iterations and quite a few refinements, the final design features keycap legends with the same typeface used on the Unbox Therapy logo, giving the keyboard a sleek and unified UT look. The UT98 has a knurled rotary control that functions as a volume control and will mute the ... More computer's audio when pressed. Good Connections There are three methods for connecting the UT98 to a host device like a PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone. The first connection method is Bluetooth and users can connect with up to three devices simultaneously. The user can switch between devices by simply pressing a key. The Bluetooth connection has the slowest latency. So, for gamers there is a 2.4GHz RF USB dongle that ships with the keyboard. This method delivers the same kind of latency as a wired connection. Finally, the UT98 can be connected with a USB cable plugged into the keyboard's Type-C port, which is also used to recharge the built-in battery. Speaking of batteries, the UT98 has a large 10,000mAh rechargeable lithium-ion cell. That's up to five times more capacity than the average wireless keyboard and it means the UT98 can function for almost 1,000 hours with the keayboard's RGB backlights turned off or about 77 hours with the backlights turned on. The McHose Silent Peach V3 switches are mechanical but without the clack and are as quiet as 35dB. Choice Of Two Colorways The McHose UT98 keyboard can be ordered in two colorways. There is Classic Therapy and Retro Therapy. The Classic Therapy has a black-and white theme that reflect a modern and minimalist look. The Retro Therapy colorway is a bold design that reflects the Unbox Therapy's signature orange color and echoes the channel's visual identity. To complement the keyboard and provide the complete Unbox Therapy experience, McHose has also produced matching and co-branded wrist rest and mouse pad. Both accessories reflect the distinctive Unbox Therapy design elements. The McHose UT98 keyboard officially launches on Kickstarter from July 17, 2025. Between June 16 and July 16, early backers can visit the prelaunch page and reserve some exclusive VIP perks for just $2 and unlock discounts up to 36% when the campaign goes live.
