'Nothing wrong in conveying emotions': Shivakumar defends Kharge's 'overlooked for CM' remark; but cautions against public expression
Mallikarjun Kharge; DK Shivakumar NEW DELHI: Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday defended Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge 's recent comments on being "overlooked" for the Karnataka chief minister's post in 1999, saying there was "nothing wrong" in a senior leader expressing his emotions. He, however, cautioned that one should not express his/her sentiments in public. "What is wrong if Mallikarjun Kharge expresses his feelings? He is a senior leader who has worked tirelessly for the Congress. He only conveyed his emotions. There is absolutely nothing wrong in that," Shivakumar told reporters in Bengaluru, according to news agency PTI. "One must express his/her feelings, but not in public," the Congress leader, who heads the party's Karnataka unit, added. Shivakumar's remarks came amid growing buzz in political circles triggered by Kharge's reflection, as well as recent statements from Congress leaders like Jagalur MLA B Devendrappa and social welfare minister HC Mahadevappa, who said Kharge had "all the qualities" to occupy any constitutional post, and that the party would "take a call when the time comes." Meanwhile, Kharge's remarks, made on Sunday, have sparked a fresh debate within the grand old party on leadership and the long-standing demand for a Dalit chief minister in the southern state. Recalling his role in the 1999 assembly elections, Kharge said, "I tried to bring the party to power. We formed the government and SM Krishna became the chief minister. He had come as Karnataka Congress president only four months ahead of the my service was washed down the river. I feel that – I toiled for five years, but the person who came four months ago was made the CM." He added, "What I'm trying to say is, we face difficulty, but we must continue to work without greediness in mind. If you are greedy, you won't get anything. Also you won't be able to do what's in your mind..... passing through all these things, from being a block president, I have now become Congress president today. I did not go behind the posts."

Kiara Advani, Hrithik Roshan's Kiss In War 2 Sparks Age Gap Debate; Fans React To 18-Year Difference
Kiara Advani and Hrithik Roshan's fans have defended their pairing in War 2, calling them mature. The trailer of War 2 was finally released today, July 25, amid much anticipation. Fans had been excited to see what cinematic wonder Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and Jr NTR will bring to the screens. While the War 2 trailer was full of exciting moments, one particular frame has caught everyone's attention. Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani's kiss in the trailer has sparked a debate about their age gap. A user on Reddit shared a screenshot of the two actors kissing in the film and wondered why their age gap wasn't being talked about. Hrithik Roshan is 51 years old, and Kiara Advani is 33 years old, marking an age gap of 18 years. While such an age gap usually irks fans, not too many seem concerned when it comes to War 2. While there are some comments about the age gap, most fans seem to defend the actors. One person wrote, 'There is literally an 18-year age gap between Hritik and Kiara." However, another person responded, 'This is just unnecessary atp. A woman of 33 is not some novice child. It's creepy to pair a woman in her 20s with a man in his 50s-60s, but in her 30s, she's a fully mature woman, and a 33-year-old woman and a 51-year-old is not some extraordinary age difference even in the real world." A comment read, 'Pretty privilege is real." Another mentioned, 'It's not a great age gap, considering other Bollywood couples." One person wrote, 'A 22-year-old being cast opposite a 40-year-old, and a 32-year-old opposite a 50-year-old, is a big difference." Another comment mentioned, 'Idk why the age difference is a problem. They are both consenting adults." Meanwhile, Reddit is also buzzing with theories about Kiara Advani's character in the film. A Reddit post is going viral for claiming that Kiara Advani plays Kavya Luthra in War 2. As per the post's theory, Kavya is the daughter of Colonel Sunil Luthra (played by Ashutosh Rana), a Joint Secretary of RAW. He is a key figure in the YRF Spyverse and is tasked with managing the pursuit of Hrithik Roshan's Kabir, who has gone rogue. While these fan theories are spreading like wildfire, it is important to note that none of this speculation has been confirmed, including Kiara's character's name in the film. The film will be out in theatres on August 14, 2025. First Published: July 25, 2025, 17:25 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Etihad's big order to pilots on fuel switches as Air India crash probe deepens, Korea plans similar move
The Etihad Airways has ordered their pilots to "exercise caution" with fuel switches on the Boeing 787 aircraft, The Hindu reported on Monday. Etihad Airways has ordered an investigation into how the fuel control switches operate.(Bloomberg/File photo) The directive came on the day of a preliminary probe report on the June 12 Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad was released, revealing that both fuel switches on the flight flipped from the 'RUN' to the 'CUTOFF' positions shortly after take-off. South Korea is also planning a similar move for its airlines operating Boeing aircraft, news agency Reuters reported. The country is preparing to order all its airlines that operate Boeing planes to examine the fuel control switches. Meanwhile, besides ordering pilots to tread carefully with the switches, Etihad Airways has also ordered an investigation into how the fuel control switches operate. Etihad's orders to pilots and South Korea's reported plan for a similar move for its airlines follow a notification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing that said the fuel control switches on its planes, including 787, were not unsafe. 'Although the fuel control switch design, including the locking feature, is similar on various Boeing airplane models, the FAA does not consider this issue to be an unsafe condition that would warrant an Airworthiness Directive on any Boeing airplane models, including the Model 787,' the notification to Civil Aviation Authorities, seen by news agency Reuters, read. Etihad's mandates, S Korea's plans According to The Hindu, Etihad released a bulletin on July 12, the day the Air India plane crash's probe report released, asking pilots to 'exercise caution when operating the fuel control switches or any other switches/control in their vicinity'. The airline says that that this measure is being taken "out of an abundance of caution". A separate bulletin from Etihad mandates inspections of the fuel control locking mechanism across its Boeing 787 fleet, with a detailed guide for engineers to verify proper engagement of this feature, the publication further reported. It has also directed pilots to avoid placing objects on the pedestal to avoid accidental movements, and ordered the crew onboard to report anything unusual. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of South Korea is also preparing checks on the fuel control switches in Boeing planes operated by its airlines. However, there is no timeline for these examinations yet. They come in accordance with a 2018 FAA advisory, which recommended Boeing model operators to inspect the locking feature of the fuel switches. The same advisory was also cited in the Air India crash probe report released recently. Findings in Air India probe report The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released a preliminary probe report on the Air India flight crash on July 12, exactly a month after the deadly crash of the Boeing 787 aircraft in Ahmedabad killed 260 people, including 241 on board. The report's findings revealed that switches that regulate fuel supply to the engines shifted from 'RUN' to the 'CUTOFF' within a second of each other, and both engines of the aircraft shut down mid-air just seconds after take-off. It also records a conversation between the two pilots in the cockpit, quoting one of them as saying 'Why did you cut off?', to which the other responds, 'I didn't.'

Dharmasthala burial case: Dakshina Kannada police to ascertain stand of complainant, advocates on changing investigating officer or handing over case to SIT
Dakshina Kannada police have said that they will have to ascertain with the complainant his stand on whether there was a need to change the Investigation Officer (IO) or if there was a need to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged case of burial of dead bodies in Dharmasthala, before taking a decsion on the same. A statement by the police late on Saturday (July 12, 2025), said that some sections of people have been asking to change the IO or hand over the investigation into the case to the SIT in the interest of the public. Police will also have to ascertain with the advocates representing the complainant whether they were aware of the demand. 'Some statements made by the advocates of the complainant to the media on July 11 are factually wrong,' the statement said without elaborating. Youtuber booked Meanwhile, Dharmasthala police on July 11 booked a case against M.D. Sameer, a Youtuber, under Sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot, if rioting be committed; if not committed), 240 (providing false information), 353 (1) (b) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquility) of BNS (Crime No. 42/2025). In a statement on July 12, police charged the Youtuber with providing false and fictitious information on the burial case to the public through his channel. The extra information given by the Youtuber, in addition to what the complainant had stated in his complaint and before the court, were false and fictitious, the statement said. Background of case It may be mentioned here that the complainant, who claims to have buried many bodies of alleged murder and rape victims in the jurisdiction of Dharmasthala village a decade ago, produced before the Principal Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate First Class, Belthangady court, on July 11 some of the skeletal remains of the bodies that he claimed to have exhumed on his own. He also gave a statement before the Magistrate. Police seized the body parts in front of the advocates representing the complainant and 'panch' witnesses. The complainant, who claims to have worked as a sanitary worker in Dharmastala between 1995 and December 2014, filed a complaint on July 3, stating that he was forced to bury several bodies. After taking permission of the court, the Dharmastala police registered a case for offence under section 211 (a) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on July 4. As the complainant has sought anonymity, police have not disclosed his details. The protection of the complainant was approved by the competent authority in the district on July 10.
