Local nonprofit provides donations to thousands hurt by Texas floods
(WHTM) — After the devastating floods that left thousands displaced in Kerr County, Texas, one Cumberland County nonprofit is helping in the recovery process. Mission Central of Mechanicsburg has been donating to those affected by disasters nationwide since 2002. Today, they packed a truck with 900 sanitation buckets, looking to assist in cleaning and laundry, as well as 2,000 menstrual hygiene kits. Executive Director Hope Harrison says the most important part of disaster relief is listening. 'For us, it's very important that we wait until they get to the ground and find out what the needs actually are, and so right now those 3 things are the biggest needs,' said Harrison. 'As time moves on, we'll hear more disaster relief, we're gonna hear more, and it will change.' The truck is expected to arrive in Texas tomorrow. Mission Central plans to send another in the coming days, as they accept donations year-round. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
