Eluru Collector calls for collective action to prevent spread of dengue

Eluru District Collector K. Vetriselvi instructed officials from the Medical and Health Department to intensify public awareness on dengue symptoms and preventive measures. She emphasised the importance of educating people during the National Dengue Awareness month. The Collector, on Monday, unveiled awareness posters and banners on dengue, printed by the Health Department. She called for collective action to prevent the spread of dengue, particularly by ensuring cleanliness in surroundings and avoiding water stagnation. The Collector directed ASHA workers and health staff to form three teams and conduct house visits to raise awareness on mosquito breeding and its dangers. 'If mosquito larvae are eliminated, dengue can largely be controlled,' she said, asking staff to demonstrate it visually to the public. She also instructed the Panchayati Raj and Municipal officials to carry out anti-larval operations and fogging activities on a regular basis. Stating that Aedes mosquitoes spread dengue, she said that they breed in stagnant clean water found in uncovered containers such as drums, barrels, flower pots, and unused vessels. These can often be found inside and outside homes, especially during the rainy season. She urged people to clean such containers weekly, cover them properly, and use engine oil or mud to seal rainwater-collecting spots. Additionally, she suggested placing a sponge or a cloth in refrigerator trays and squeezing them weekly to avoid mosquito breeding. 'Mosquitoes that spread dengue bite during daytime, so people must be cautious while cleaning their homes,' she added. Joint Collector P. Dhatri Reddy, DCHS Paul Satish Kumar, District Medical and Health Officer R. Malini, District Malaria Officer P.S. Prasad, Aarogyasri District Coordinator Rajeev, DRDA PD R. Vijayaraju, Special Deputy Collector K. Bhaskar, and others attended the event.

CM Revanth Reddy seeks action plan for strengthening Telangana medical colleges

Hyderabad, June 16 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today directed officials to immediately prepare an action plan to fully equip all 34 medical colleges across the state. Emphasising the importance of strengthening the medical education infrastructure, the Chief Minister ordered the formation of a committee comprising senior officials to inspect each medical college and submit a detailed report on their requirements. The committee has been tasked with assessing the needs of each college — including infrastructure gaps, required funds, pending works, and specific assistance to be provided by the government. Reddy chaired a high-level review meeting on Monday at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) with senior officials of the Medical and Health Department, an official statement said. During the meeting, several issues raised by the National Medical Council (NMC) regarding the state's medical colleges were discussed. The Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive report covering recruitment in government medical colleges, promotions of teaching faculty, enhancement of hospital bed strength in college-affiliated hospitals, availability of medical equipment, and the filling of staff vacancies. He assured that the required funds from the state government would be released immediately. For any issues involving the Union Health Ministry, the Chief Minister said he would personally take them up with Union Minister J P Nadda and concerned officials to resolve them at the earliest. In a forward-looking initiative, the CM suggested introducing Japanese as an optional language in nursing colleges, citing growing demand for Indian nursing staff in Japan. He informed that the Japanese government has expressed willingness to support such efforts. To improve hospital service delivery and accountability, the CM asked officials to explore the development of a digital application to monitor patient visits, doctor consultations, and hospital timings. Stressing the importance of the education and health sectors, CM Revanth Reddy directed the Principal Secretary to conduct a joint review of both departments in the third week of every month. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, Principal Secretary to the Government Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister V Seshadri, CM's Secretary Manik Raj, Health Secretary Christiana Z Chongtu, Director of Health Dr. Narendra Kumar and other senior officials participated in the review meeting. Chittoor prepares for intensified diarrhea control drive

The Medical and Health Department on Friday launched two focused drives to tackle diarrhea and mosquito-borne diseases across the district. Addressing the medical and paramedical staff here on Friday (June 13), District Medical and Health Officer Dr. D.T. Sudharani directed the medical officers to review preparations for the 'Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF)' campaign and submit a report in a couple of days. She said that the primary goal of the IDCF is to reduce child mortality among children below five years. The ANMs, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi staff were instructed to conduct door-to-door surveys and sensitise families about diarrhea prevention from June 16 to July 31. 'Setting up of ORS corners in all primary health centres, wellness centres, and Anganwadi centres is mandatory. Parents are advised to get their children vaccinated for rotavirus. Children with any symptoms will be treated with ORS and zinc tablets, and will be referred to higher institutions if necessary,' the DMHO said. Meanwhile, District Malaria Officer Venu Gopal on Friday conducted inspections of the 'Friday Dry Day' activities at the Urban Health Centre at Mapakshi village of Gudipala mandal near Chittoor and also visited LB Puram and CG Palle villages. He said that the inspections were part of the ongoing Malaria Prevention Month and while interacting with the residents, he urged them to observe Dry Day every Friday as it is important to check mosquito breeding and prevent diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and Japanese encephalitis. Later, the official visited the Anganwadi centre at Mapakshi and stressed on the need for mesh doors and maintenance of clean surroundings to protect children from mosquito bites.
