That very evening, she called the store to say she didn't like it and wanted to return it. The store told her that instead of a refund, they could give her a credit note, which she could use to buy something else from the shop within two months. A month later, Meghna visited the store again on a Saturday. A salesman informed her that they were running a stock clearance sale and asked her to come back the following month. Soon after, her fiancé, Sumit Sayani, came into the showroom and demanded a refund. When the shopkeeper refused, he pulled out a knife and tore the lehenga apart, according to a complaint filed by the manager of Nakshatra showroom. Other customers in the store were scared by the scene. The complaint also says that Sumit demanded Rs 3 lakh and threatened to leave a bad review about the store's service on Google. Sumit was arrested but was granted bail soon after. According to Suraj Singh Gaund, senior inspector at Bazarpeth police station where the complaint was filed, the man admitted that he acted in a moment of anger.
