The Internet Is Dragging Megyn Kelly For Calling Stephen Colbert A Failure
Radio host and podcaster Megyn Kelly tried to take a victory lap after the announcement last week that Stephen Colbert 's Late Show would be canceled by CBS after 10 years on the air and despite it being the highest-rated show in its time slot. But given her own history, it didn't go well. Kelly said on her show Friday that Colbert took The Late Show ― which was started by David Letterman ― and 'completely drove it into the ground.' 'He desperately wanted to be Keith Olbermann,' she said. 'And guess what? Keith Olbermann is a failure, and now so are you, Stephen Colbert.' Kelly was a longtime host at Fox News, where she drew the ire of then-candidate Donald Trump during a Republican debate in 2015. 'You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes,' Trump infamously complained at the time. ' Blood was coming out of her — wherever.' She later left Fox and signed a three-year $69 million deal with NBC, which included a Sunday night news magazine show and a third hour of the Today show called Megyn Kelly Today. But she struggled in the ratings, and was taken off the air after she defended the use of blackface as part of Halloween costumes. She apologized, but the show was canceled days later after a little more than a year on the air. NBC reportedly paid out her full contract. After she left, the third hour of the Today show jumped in the ratings by 18%, NBC News reported at the time. The feed on X (formerly Twitter) for Kelly's show posted her comments about Colbert ― and Kelly's critics fired back with some reminders of her own past: Hmm. Let me get this right. @StephenAtHome @colbertlateshow had a successful 10-year run on CBS. @megynkelly failed MASSIVELY on NBC. In fact, she will go down as one of the biggest failures in media history. Didn't last 2 years, and they had to pay her $60M-plus. You call Stephen Colbert . @StephenAtHome being a failure? Here's the score: Colbert's been the undisputed heavyweight champ of late-night TV for years. Don Lemon to Megyn Kelly over Joy Reid remarks: ‘Go f‑‑‑ yourself'
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon issued an expletive-filled rebuke of Megyn Kelly after the ex-Fox News anchor celebrated the end of Joy Reid's MSNBC show. On his YouTube show Monday, Lemon said Kelly was the worst person on television and called her a racist. 'Let me just say to Megan Kelly, on my 30-some years as a journalist and my 50-some years as a person of color: Go f‑‑‑ yourself,' Lemon said, a reference to Kelly's remarks toward MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski after the two visited President Trump at Mar-a-Lago shortly after his November victory. Over the weekend, Kelly posted on the social platform X that Reid was the 'absolute worst person on television.' 'Remember when Joy Reid laughingly mocked 'white women tears' as pathetic and offensive to her? Who's crying now, Joy?' Kelly posted, also blasting NBC for 'letting it go on this long.' Lemon fired back, calling Kelly, who hosted 'Megyn Kelly Today' on NBC from 2017-18, the worst person on television. 'The worst person on television was fired from NBC and the 'Today' show a few years ago, and that's Megyn Kelly,' he added. 'That's the worst person who's not on television anymore. It's you. So hoorah for that. NBC did something good with that.' 'Megyn Kelly Today' was canceled in 2018 after she defended white people dressing in blackface for Halloween. Lemon referred to the segment as 'evidence' that Kelly is racist. 'I was actually friendly with Megyn Kelly, and then, when people show you who they are, you better f‑‑‑ing believe it, because we should've known,' Lemon said. The Hill has reached out to Kelly for comment. Reid's evening news show, 'The ReidOut,' aired its final episode Monday. The cancellation is part of the network's overhaul under the new presidential administration. Reid previously anchored 'The Reid Report' and 'AM Joy' for the network. She is now leaving the network entirely; Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele and Alicia Menendez, who currently host the network's 'The Weekend,' will switch to anchoring in Reid's former 7 p.m. slot. In a video clip posted by conservative media outlet Townhall, Reid tearfully mourned the loss of her show. 'My show had value. What I was doing had value,' Reid said. Kelly reposted the clip on X, writing, 'Joy Reid has viciously mocked the tears of every white person she's helped cancel over the years for some imaginary racial slight. She's had zero empathy for anyone. Now she wants us to feel sorry for her. WE DON'T.' Then, on her Monday episode of 'The Megyn Kelly Show,' Kelly doubled down. 'Single tear — white woman tears happening right here, Joy,' Kelly said. 'She was officially fired over the weekend because she's a racist, horrible news anchor with no ratings.' The end to Reid's career with MSNBC drew a backlash from anchors on the network, including its biggest star, Rachel Maddow. Maddow and Jen Pskai both opened their respective MSNBC shows Monday by praising Reid and her work. Maddow criticized the changes at the network, accusing MSNBC of making a 'mistake' in firing Reid and condemning the network's lack of nonwhite anchors. Political leaders also threw their support behind Reid. Activist and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams posted ways to support Reid on X. 'We've got your back, Joy,' Abrams wrote. Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, posted that she was 'heartbroken' Reid no longer had a platform 'to educate, inform, and advocate.' 'Joy is a true trailblazer and giant of journalism, and I can't wait to see her succeed in her next chapter,' Clarke said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Don Lemon blasts ‘racist' Megyn Kelly as he rants about conservative podcaster
Former CNN host Don Lemon lashed out at former Fox News host and conservative podcaster Megyn Kelly, calling her a "racist" on Monday morning. Lemon made the comments during a recording of his Don Lemon Show podcast. "Let's talk about the haters," Lemon said, taking a sip from a Megyn Kelly Today mug. The mug comes from Kelly's former stint at the helm of a short-lived NBC talk show bearing her name. Lemon said he didn't typically like talking about Kelly because "she's one of those people, she thrives on it," and went on to say that the second half of her career has been her "being a troll." 'Instead of supporting – just remember, Megyn Kelly is allegedly, right, although I do hear, the streets are talking, that allegedly, she's not ... as supportive of women as she makes out to be. Especially that whole thing that went on at Fox News with Roger Ailes and all of that there," Lemon said. "They're like, 'Really, Megyn is saying that? Huh. Y'all don't know her.' Oh, I'm going there.' Kelly was outspoken about the sexual harassment women faced under Ailes including allegations that he tried to forcibly kiss her and asked her for nude photos. Ailes died in 2017. Lemon claimed that Kelly has a PR team boosting clips of her that start with the phrase "Megyn Kelly calls out," and said the "call out" phenomenon was a mostly right-wing marketing tactic for media personalities. 'I don't want to be one of those people whose Google profile begins with 'Don Lemon Calls Out.' It's gauche, it's unseemly, and it's beneath me, and it should be beneath her,' Lemon said. Lemon was let go by CNN in April 2023, three years before his contract was set to expire. He then went after Kelly for her response to the news that Joy Reid's show at MSNBC had been cancelled. Kelly issued a social media post — which Lemon read out loud — celebrating Reid's exit. "Remember when Joy Reid laughingly mocked 'white women tears' as pathetic and offensive to her? Who's crying now, Joy? Good riddance to the absolute worst person on television, and shame on NBC for letting it go on this long," Kelly wrote on social media. Lemon said that her response was evidence that Kelly's pro-woman persona was a facade before calling her a racist. 'And she has, you know, she has an ax to grind when it comes to MSNBC. And also, you know, you know, this whole – she's racist, right? ...I'm gonna give you the evidence. Supposedly learned from and then spent every day after apologizing for it and being fired for it, then spent every day proving the point that she is a racist. And not very supportive of women, if you look, all you have to do, the evidence is in her Google search and what she says about women, and how she calls them out all the time,' Lemon said. The former CNN host then turned Kelly's words around and tossed them back at her. 'The worst person? No, Megyn Kelly! The worst person on television was fired from NBC and The Today Show a few years ago, and that's Megyn Kelly," he said. "That's the worst person who's not on television anymore — it's you. That's the worst person who's not on television. So hurrah for that, NBC did something good for with that.' The Independent has requested comment from Kelly.
