PCSO sends aid to flood-hit Maguindanao del Sur
The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has sent food packs to residents affected by a massive flood in Maguindanao del Sur. In a statement on Saturday, PCSO said 1,000 food packs each containing five kilos of rice, instant noodles, canned goods and potable water were sent to an evacuation center in the town of Datu Piang. PCSO General Manager Mel Robles also said 2,500 Charitimba, or a pail containing relief goods, were airlifted on Sunday. Datu Piang has been placed under a state of calamity due to the flood brought by the Intertropical Convergence Zone that hit the region last week. According to the Datu Piang Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), almost 8,000 families in 16 barangays were affected by the flood. At least two fatalities were reported due to the flood in Koronadal City. Meanwhile, the Maguindanao del Sur Provincial DRRMO logged at least 50,000 affected families. In a social media post on Sunday, the National DRRM Council said Datu Abdullah Sangki and Talayan towns in Maguindanao del Sur were among the hardest-hit and most affected areas by the present weather disturbance. Authorities conducted an aerial assessment over the flood-affected areas a week after the flash flood occurred to gain an updated situational overview. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
