Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk charged by FA over anti-doping rule violation
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged by the Football Association with violating anti-doping rules. The 24-year-old has not played since being handed a provisional suspension in December after he returned a positive test, reportedly for the banned substance meldonium. Advertisement An FA statement said: 'We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of regulations three and four of the FA's anti-doping regulations. Mudryk started only once in the Premier League last season (Steven Paston/PA) 'As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.' Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years under the FA's anti-doping regulations. Under Regulation 77, a four-year ban would result if the violation related to a non-specified substance, unless the player or his camp could establish that the violation was not intentional. Advertisement Where the violation relates to a specified substance and the FA can establish the violation was intentional, a four-year ban would also apply. Specified substances are those considered more likely to have been consumed by an athlete for a purpose other than the enhancement of sports performance. A shorter ban could apply depending on other circumstances, such as whether it could be proved there was no intention to violate the regulations and whether the violation occurred in or out of competition. Chelsea have been approached for comment. Advertisement Earlier this month Mudryk's number 10 shirt was given to Cole Palmer for next season, leaving the Ukraine international without a squad number at Stamford Bridge. In a statement issued at the time of his suspension, Mudryk said the positive sample had come as 'a complete shock' and he had 'not done anything wrong,' with Chelsea adding the player had 'never knowingly used any banned substances'. The result was returned shortly after he had been away on international duty with Ukraine in November, during which time the banned substance is reported to have been administered. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca initially said the winger was unavailable through illness to explain a four-game period that he was absent from the team prior to the suspension being made public. Advertisement Mudryk was introduced to Chelsea fans on the pitch at Stamford Bridge in January 2023 (Mike Egerton/PA) Mudryk last played for the club in a 2-0 win away to Heidenheim in the Conference League on November 28. He was then an unused substitute for the 3-0 Premier League win against Aston Villa three days later. His last appearance in the league came on November 10 as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal. Mudryk's time at Stamford Bridge has been dogged by inconsistency on the pitch. Brief flourishes of talent have been interrupted by periods of limited impact while his finishing and delivery from wide have frustrated supporters since his £88million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023. Advertisement He has scored just 10 goals in 73 appearances in all competitions and has rarely held down a regular place in the team. Under Maresca his chances have been even more limited with most of his games coming in the cup competitions and in Europe, with just a single Premier League start in August's 6-2 win over Wolves.

An FA spokesperson said: 'We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of the FA's Anti-Doping Regulations. Mykhailo Mudryk receives results of lie detector test in bid to clear name
Mykhailo Mudryk hasn't played since November 28 (Picture: Getty) Mykhailo Mudryk has passed a lie detector test in an effort to clear his name after he received a doping ban earlier this season. The 23-year-old has been provisionally suspended after an analysis of a urine sample taken as part of a test conducted in the UK in the autumn detected the presence of the banned substance. Mudryk, whose last appearance for Chelsea came back on November, believes the adverse finding was the result of a contaminated supplement. The former Shakhtar Donetsk star is facing a ban of up to four years and the strain he is currently under was encapsulated by his most recent social media update in the build-up to last weekend's west London derby when he posted a tear emoji in response to a video package of his matchwinning performance in last season's corresponding fixture. According to Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin, Mudryk remains at a loss as to how traces of Meldonium ended up in his system and has gone to extreme lengths to prove his innocence. 'I have spoken to Mudryk many times since this doping issue arose,' said Palkin, speaking to GIVEMESPORT. 'He doesn't understand how it could have happened. He has no clue. No idea at all. Mykhailo Mudryk responded to Chelsea's post ahead of their Premier League game against Fulham (Instagram) 'So his lawyers organised for him to take a lie detector test, which he passed. It will form part of the evidence showing he didn't intentionally do anything wrong. 'Mudryk has been clear, it's not his fault that he tested positive. We now need to find out how this has happened, and who did this. His lawyers are trying to find out. 'There are still no results from the B-sample, so that remains open. Nobody knows what's happened. I wish Mudryk all the best. He's a top professional and a very good person. He should be protected. What Mykhailo Mudryk has said about his ban 'I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to the FA contained a banned substance. 'This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened 'I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.' Mykhailo Mudryk is currently serving a provisional suspension after failing a drugs test (PA) 'Shakhtar also has a vested interest. There are bonuses from his move to Chelsea linked to his performances. 'If he's not playing, it causes problems for us because we could potentially lose €30m. Mykhailo Mudryk doping ban update as chief confirms Chelsea could SAVE a huge chunk of his £88m transfer fee
Mykhailo Mudryk has passed a 'lie detector test' in his bid to prove his innocence amid a doping ban, a Shakhtar Donetsk chief has claimed. Chelsea star Mudryk, 24, is currently provisionally suspended from playing football after it was confirmed last year that he had tested positive for the banned substance Meldonium. He has denied any wrongdoing and vowed to prove his innocence, but has not played for Chelsea since November. Mudryk appeared to suggest he was missing being part of the team at the weekend, with a cryptic comment on one of Chelsea's posts, as he awaits the result of a 'B' sample, and whether it confirms the findings of his 'A' sample. But with his former charge out of action, Shakhtar chief Sergei Palkin has claimed that the player is doing everything he can to prove his innocence, including taking a polygraph test. 'I have spoken to Mudryk many times since this doping issue arose,' Palkin told GIVEMESPORT exclusively. 'He doesn't understand how it could have happened. He has no clue. No idea at all. 'So his lawyers organised for him to take a lie detector test, which he passed. 'Shakhtar also has a vested interest. There are bonuses from his move to Chelsea linked to his performances. If he's not playing, it causes problems for us because we could potentially lose €30m. So Shakhtar, Chelsea and Mudryk, we are in one boat. 'We all support Mudryk, and hope he is allowed to continue playing football soon.' After joining for £88million back in January 2023, Mudyrk struggled to impose himself in the Chelsea side, and failed to really hit the ground running. In 79 appearances for the Blues, he has only scored 10 goals, and was yet to do so in the Premier League in 2024-25 at the point his suspension came in. He is yet to feature for the Blues since November and hadn't scored in the Premier League this season before his ban was imposed If found to have committed an offence, then punishments for a positive drugs test could lead to a long-term ban as was the case with Paul Pogba when the former Man United star was initially banned from football for four years before an appeal led to it being reduced to 18 months. In a message to his followers on Instagram after his provisional ban, Mudryk posted: 'I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance. 'This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened. 'I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can.'
