Rochester man charged for murder of 36-year-old Minnesota woman
Rochester man charged for murder of 36-year-old Minnesota woman originally appeared on Bring Me The News. The killing of a 36-year-old woman resulted in a manhunt and the capture of 44-year-old Craig A. Hameister. The Rochester man is now in custody and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. According to the charges, Hameister brutally killed Melissa N. Hunt, who was found critically injured at a residence in Kellogg after police were called at 4:43 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18. "Upon arrival to the scene deputies observed significant injuries to the woman's face, including missing several teeth and portion of her jaw," the criminal complaint says. Hunt was able to communicate with officers at the scene, telling them that Hameister struck her with a stick at a boat launch in rural Kellogg. Hunt was taken to Gunderson St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 6:20 p.m. A medical examiner later found gunshot residue in Hunt's facial wounds. Police sent out an alert identifying Hameister and his white Chevy Silverado, leading to the discovery of his truck at an address in rural Chatfield. The door to the truck was open and a 9mm bullet round was found on the floor. People inside the home told police that Hameister had been there earlier and was "very frantic," saying "something bad happened." They said he fled on a motorcycle. Hameister was found by police near Chester in Olmsted County. He climbed a tree to avoid being arrested, but was eventually taken into custody after an "hours long standoff," the criminal complaint says. Police found a spent shell casing at the boat launch that matched the 9mm round found on the floor of Hameister's truck. A 9mm gun was also found by the tree that Hameister climbed while trying to evade police. The Wabasha County Sheriff's Office says Hunt and Hameister were previously in a relationship. A GoFundMe launched by family members has so far generated more than $8,000 for help provide a "beautiful memorial and burial." You can also call the at 1-866-223-1111.
