Memphis basketball players on NBA Summer League rosters, including Dain Dainja, Lester Quinones

NBA Summer League got under way July 5 − with the California Classic in San Francisco and the Salt Lake City Summer League − and it goes into full swing July 10 in Las Vegas. And, just like most years, Memphis basketball is well represented. A host of former Tigers who suited up for coach Penny Hardaway at one time or another will try to make a name for themselves in front of NBA scouts and executives. Some have already shone this year. David Jones-Garcia scored 25 points for the San Antonio Spurs in a win over the Golden State Warriors on July 6. Dain Dainja dropped 13 points for the Miami Heat against the Los Angeles Lakers on July 5. Here's a rundown of all the former Tigers who will be in action during summer league. Dain Dainja, Miami Heat The undrafted 6-foot-9 big man dominated down the stretch for Memphis in 2024-25, finishing as the team's leading rebounder and its second-leading scorer en route to first-team all-AAC honors. In his professional debut, Dainja scored 13 points and had three rebounds and two steals. Moussa Cisse, Dallas Mavericks The undrafted 6-11 center played two non-consecutive seasons for the Tigers (2020-21 and 2024-25). He was the primary starter the first half of the season before becoming Dainja's backup. Cisse signed an Exhibit-10 contract (a one-year, minimum-salary NBA deal) with the Mavs on June 26. The Mavs' first summer league game is against the Lakers on July 10 (7 p.m., ESPN). Nick Jourdain, New York Knicks Jourdain, a 6-9 Clifton, N.J., native, spent two seasons at Memphis and played in 65 games (60 starts). David Jones-Garcia, San Antonio Spurs The bucket-getting wing (who went by David Jones during his one season, 2023-24, at Memphis) was undrafted in 2024. He initially signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, then signed with the Utah Jazz. But he never got into an NBA game last season, instead spending the majority of his time with the Mexico City Capitanes of the G League. Nae'Qwan Tomlin, Cleveland Cavaliers The do-it-all forward went undrafted after playing the final 21 games of the 2023-24 season at Memphis. Tomlin eventually signed a two-way deal with the Cavs and played in five games for Cleveland (including one start) last season, averaging 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. Jonathan Pierre, Washington Wizards The 6-9 undrafted forward spent the past season at Belmont (14.5 points per game). Before that, Pierre played one season (2023-24) for Hardaway, putting up modest results (1.8 points, 0.7 rebounds a game). His collegiate career began at Nova Southeastern (Division II). Damion Baugh, Charlotte Hornets Baugh, who finished his career at TCU, spent his first two seasons in college at Memphis. After going undrafted in 2023, he signed with the Lakers, then the Knicks, then the Hornets. Last season, he played in 15 games (two starts) for Charlotte, averaging 7.3 points, 3.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. MORE: Inside Penny Hardaway's push for Memphis basketball to prioritize high school recruiting again Lester Quinones, New Orleans Pelicans The well traveled guard − ironically, one of the last Tigers to play multiple seasons at Memphis without transferring − is with his third organization since going undrafted in 2022. First, he signed with the Warriors, splitting time between the G League and Golden State for two seasons (41 total games played for the Warriors). Next, he signed with the 76ers, playing four games before being waived. Then, on March 3, 2025, he signed a two-way deal with the Pelicans. Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, Denver Nuggets The 6-10 center played one season (2022-23) at Memphis. This is his second time playing in the summer league (Mavs, 2023). Akobundu-Ehiogu most recently played professionally in Italy. Landers Nolley II, Philadelphia 76ers After beginning his collegiate career at Virginia Tech, Nolley spent two seasons at Memphis before transferring to Cincinnati. Undrafted in 2023, the shooting guard signed with the Pelicans before spending time in the G League (Birmingham Squadron) that year. Since then, he has bounced around, playing professionally in Venzuela, Greece and Taiwan. Boogie Ellis, Phoenix Suns The former Tigers guard, who spent two seasons at Memphis (2019-21) before transferring to USC, signed with the Kings in 2024. He was then part of a trade that sent him to the Noblesville Boom (the Pacers' G League affiliate). Reach sports writer Jason Munz at follow him @munzly on X. WR Jude Hall commits to Memphis football, becomes top-rated recruit in Tigers' 2026 class

Memphis football is adding some speed to its 2026 recruiting class. Jude Hall — a 3-star wide receiver from Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, South Carolina — announced his commitment to the Tigers on June 21. He is on an official visit to Memphis this weekend. Advertisement Hall was previously committed to Duke. He has offers from several Power 4 conference schools, including South Carolina. Hall made 57 catches for 795 yards and five touchdowns in 2024. He's also a state champion in the 400 meter hurdles. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Hall becomes the top-rated recruit in Memphis' 2026 class, according to 247Sports. The Tigers came into Saturday with the No. 67-ranked recruiting class in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. That's second in the AAC behind only South Florida. Hall will join a Memphis receiver room that has undergone plenty of change in the past year. Stalwarts Roc Taylor, Demeer Blankumsee and Koby Drake are gone, so there are lots of spots up for grabs heading into the 2025 season. That could be the case in 2026 as well. Memphis kicks off its 2025 season on Aug. 30 against Chattanooga. Advertisement Reach sports writer Jonah Dylan at or on X @thejonahdylan. Memphis Tigers left empty-handed after bold Big 12 proposal falls flat

The Memphis Tigers made a full-court press to join the Big 12, and they got nothing but rejection in return. Memphis tries everything, still shut out of Big 12 dreams Reports surfaced this week revealing the extent of Memphis' push to join the power conference. Their offer was aggressive: give up media rights revenue for five years, secure $200 million in sponsorships from companies like FedEx and Lowe's, and even include an exit clause allowing the Big 12 to remove them if they didn't deliver. None of it worked. The Big 12 wasn't swayed. The door remains closed, and Memphis is staying put in the American Conference. Public response gets weird After the news broke, the school's official social media account posted a photo with the American Conference's updated branding and the message: 'Proud member of the American Conference.' Proud member of the American Conference Ⓜ️#GoTigersGo | @American_Conf — Memphis Tigers (@TigersAthletics) July 21, 2025 That didn't sit well with fans. The timing came off as ironic, if not tone-deaf, given Memphis has been very publicly trying to leave the league. The post was quickly mocked and flooded with sarcastic replies. MORE: Klatt sounds the alarm; Michigan could steamroll the Big Ten in 2025 The American, for what it's worth, has tried to rebrand itself in recent months. The conference updated its name and logo and introduced a mascot named Soar the Eagle. That didn't help Memphis' optics either. Desperate? maybe, but not unprecedented While it may seem like Memphis was begging for a lifeline, similar strategies have worked before. SMU used a zero-revenue approach to gain entry into the ACC just last year. Memphis has been impressive on the field, going 21-5 across the last two seasons. But without an invite, performance isn't enough. The Tigers are still on the outside looking in. For now, they'll keep playing in the American, whether they're proud of it or not. Conference Realignment Tracker: Memphis Offers $200 Million To Big 12

MEMPHIS, TN - NOVEMBER 6: Ryan Silverfield, head coach of the Memphis Tigers leads his team on the ... More field against the SMU Mustangs on November 6, 2021 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis defeated SMU 28-25. (Photo by) Memphis proposed an offer to the Big 12 that is expected to be as high as $200 million over the next five years, Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger reported. Despite the aggressive approach from the university to leave the American Conference, a quick entrance might not be that simple. Conference expansion requires the support of a super majority of the league's presidents or chancellors, or 12 of the 16. According to the report, there is not enough league-wide support at the moment as Big 12 officials continue to explore the proposal. Memphis president Bill Hardgrave spent more than a year planning the proposal and took meetings with administrators in Big 12 programs. Money is expected to come through sponsor commitments from Memphis-affiliated corporate partners, in addition to a plan to forego the Big 12's revenue distribution for at least the next five years. The Tigers were on the outside looking in during a recent round of conference realignment when the Big 12 snagged Cincinnati, UCF, Houston and BYU from the American. Memphis was certainly in consideration at that time, but the conference leaders ultimately decided to pass on adding the Tigers. Even though there does not seem to be enough support for Memphis to join the Power 4 status, conference realignment moves quickly. Memphis received significant investments from sponsors like FedEx, Lowe's and AutoZone as it continues to raise money and make a move. The report stated an exit fee from the American is expected to be at least $25 million. If Memphis gets its wish, it would leave the American with 13 teams. Meanwhile, the Big 12 would bolster its conference size to 17 programs. Conference Realignment Tracker In case you need a quick refresher on the conference realignment coming over the next few years, here's what's ahead for FBS movement.

Memphis' Sincere Parker arrested over assault charge

Guard Sincere Parker, expected to a major contributor for the Memphis Tigers as an offseason acquisition from McNeese State, was arrested on Saturday on a domestic violence charge. Parker, 22, was arrested and held without bond in Shelby County Jail, before his bond was set at $120,000 on Sunday, per The Commercial-Appeal. A woman filed a police report with the Memphis police department on June 12, stemming from an incident on May 27. The woman alleged that Parker pushed her, slapped her and choked her before smashing her phone, leading to a vandalism charge as well as aggravated assault. Parker averaged 12.2 points over 34 games coming off the bench for the Cowboys in 2024-25. The season prior to that, he averaged an even more robust 15.9 points per game for Saint Louis in the Atlantic 10. The Memphis athletic department issued a short statement in response. "The University of Memphis is aware of the situation and cannot comment on an active investigation." The Tigers went 29-6 (16-2 American Athletic Conference) with a first-round NCAA Tournament exit at the hands of Colorado State, 78-70, last season. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved
