Man arrested following brief police chase in Menifee

Police arrested a man after a brief pursuit in Menifee on Friday. They were called to the 29000 block of Peacock Mountain Drive just after 8 a.m. after receiving reports of a man possibly armed with a gun in the area, according to the Menifee Police Department. Officers arrived and learned that the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Joe Felix Jr., was the subject of a court-issued restraining order that forbid him from being within 100 yards of the unidentified victim, police said. Police say that Felix Jr. left the scene prior to their arrival, but with help from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department aerial unit, they found him as he was traveling westbound on Newport Road towards Lake Elsinore. An unmarked unit began to follow his vehicle, while at the same time sheriff's units attempted to perform a traffic stop near Railroad Canyon Road and the I-15 Freeway. Felix Jr. did not stop, however, prompting a pursuit to begin. As Felix Jr. began to drive back towards the victim's home in Menifee, officers used tire-deflation devices called stop sticks to deflate all four tires on his vehicle. He was arrested without further incident. No injuries were reported in the incident. Felix Jr. was booked on suspicion of a court order violation, evading a peace officer and having outstanding local warrants for vandalism and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, July 9.

Motorcyclist dies in crash while fleeing from police in Menifee

A motorcyclist was killed when they lost control and crashed while fleeing from police in Menifee on Tuesday. It happened a little after 9 p.m. on Bradley Road near Cherry Hills Boulevard, according to the Menifee Police Department. They say that officers were conducting an anti-driving under the influence saturation patrol when they spotted the motorcyclist who failed to stop at a stop sign, according to a Facebook post from the department. When officers attempted to catch up and pull the motorcyclist over, he allegedly sped away. Police began to chase the suspect, only identified as a 20-year-old male, but terminated the pursuit for public safety, they said. "The officers continued driving north on Bradley and discovered the motorcycle rider had crashed," the MPD release said. They believe that the suspect's motorcycle collided with the west-side curb of Bradley, which caused him to crash as he was "traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash." Officers attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived at the scene. He was declared dead shortly after. "It is unknown if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, as the investigation is still on going," police said. Anyone who knows more is asked to contact detectives at (951) 723-1566.

Arson suspect arrested after fighting with Menifee police

A 29-year-old arson suspect was arrested after allegedly starting a series of fires in Menifee on Thursday before he also tried to fight police. According to the Menifee Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Menifee Countryside Marketplace, which is located south of Newport Road and the I-215 Freeway, after learning of a person who was walking behind businesses and starting fires in trash receptacles. Officers also say that the suspect, who has been identified as 29-year-old Jordan Taykeion, allegedly set a fire in the Paloma Wash, which burned several acres in an area adjacent to the freeway. "Reporting parties were able to describe an individual they witnessed leaving the Marketplace fire with a lighter in hand before the second fire began," police said. When they approached him to detain him, there was a "brief struggle," according to officers. He was taken into custody for assaulting a police officer. It's unclear what other charges he may face. No injuries were reported in the incident and all of the fires were quickly extinguished by Riverside County crews. A Cal Fire investigator was called to investigate the fires, police said.

A Menifee boy was seriously injured when he collided with a vehicle while riding an e-bike on Monday evening, police say. It happened at around 5:30 p.m. at the busy intersection of Scott Road and Bellamy Lane, according to the Menifee Police Department. They say that the bike rider, only identified as a teenage boy, was riding southbound on Bellamy at the same time that a red Jeep Cherokee being driven by a 28-year-old woman was heading eastbound on Scott. "The male juvenile continued riding southbound across Scott Road," said a post on MPD's Facebook. "The vehicle veered to the right to avoid the collision; however, was unable to do so and collided with the E-bike. The vehicle then collided into a fence." The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital after suffering severe, but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was in stable condition on Tuesday.
