Mephedrone seizure in Thane: Factory traced to Uttarakhand, three arrested from Nepal border

THE THANE police probing a case related to Mephedrone (MD) seizure within its jurisdiction last month tracked down the location of the factory to Uttarakhand and arrested three persons who were trying to flee to Nepal from the Nepal-UP border. The police said they seized drug-making equipment and other items collectively worth Rs 30 lakh. The trio arrested now include two residents of Uttarakhand identified as Om Gupta and Amar Kohli while the third accused Bhim Yadav is from Nallasopara. It was while investigating a case of narcotics registered at the local Kasarwadavli police station on June 1 where 10 grams of MD was seized by Thane crime branch (unit V) that led the police to the Uttarakhand unit. The two accused told the police that the contraband had been manufactured in Uttarakhand following which a team was sent to Pithorgarh. On June 27, the team raided a factory and seized raw materials, including chemicals and machinery, worth over Rs 18 lakh. Police said the accused had fled the premises before the raid. Three of them attempted to cross into Nepal but were intercepted and arrested on June 28 with the help of local authorities. The trio was produced in court and remanded in police custody until July 5. An official said they have found that Gupta and Kohli were previously involved in the manufacturing of MD powder in Uttar Pradesh. A prior FIR had also been registered against them at the Kasarwadavali police station, and both were absconding in that case.

The Home department submitted this information on questions raised by several ruling and opposition legislators regarding the investment scheme scams and cyber frauds in Maharashtra. The reply submitted by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, stated that a total of 46,321 cybercrime cases have been filed from 2016 to May 2025. These are the cases where the victims were duped for financial gains. The total amount that has been lost in these cases is nearly Rs 11,033.97 crore. 'Those who are arrested in the smuggling case get released in a few days and they continue with the business in different cities. I demand that these people should be arrested under the MCOCA,' said Phuke. Fadnavis replied that an amendment for the same is being planned. 'We have decided to bring the amendment in this session itself. MCOCA will be applied against the accused from now on,' he said, adding that a NDPS unit has been set up under every police station and the government has taken major actions in the last two to three years. 'At national level too, there is intelligence sharing and big actions are being taken. We will also request the high court regarding a fast-track court for these cases,' he said. As per the data submitted in the written reply, a total of 303 cases were registered in 2022, 642 cases in 2023 and 545 cases in 2024 over Mephedrone smuggling.

Peddlers try to mislead cops by claiming to attend funeral, caught with MD worth Rs 11.95 lakh

Nagpur: In a significant breakthrough under 'Operation Thunder', Nagpur city police intercepted a gang of four drug peddlers, seizing 240 grams of Mephedrone (MD) powder valued at approximately Rs 11.95 lakh. The two accused peddlers, Nilesh Deshmukh and Pranay Gaidhane, walked into the police trap trying to outsmart them. The cops tried to contact Deshmukh and Gaidhane to take them to the crime branch as part of 'Operation Thunder' for updating their records on the police software. The two started furnishing evasive replies, stating they were engaged in a funeral. This made the cops suspicious. The cops then placed the cellphones of the peddlers under surveillance which revealed their locations on the way back to the city from Mumbai. This led to the meticulously planned ambush, exposing the gang's operations after the peddlers' car was intercepted and the MD recovered from the four accused. The operation, led by senior inspector Rahul Shire's team under DCP Rashmitha Rao, is part of an intensified anti-narcotics campaign targeting over 300 peddlers across the city who are feared active despite the police stranglehold on the peddlers' networks. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Tunisia: Jewelry On Sale For Half Price (See Price List) Luxury Jewelry | search ads Undo Acting on reliable intelligence, Imamwada police set a trap on the road from TB Ward Chowk to Jattarodi Chowk between 12.35pm and 2.40pm on Saturday.
