Review – Aquaman #7: The Fate of Atlantis

Aquaman #7 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: Aquaman and his crew have made it closer to Dagon's sanctum – and they've picked up an unlikely new partner in their efforts in the form of Zan, one of the two Wonder Twins. As a water elemental, he makes sense to add to the cast – and this teenage adventurer adds a fun touch of chaotic energy to the story. We haven't seen either of the Wonder Twins in any real capacity since the end of Mark Russell's acclaimed take on them, so it makes me wonder where Jayna is and how Zan got captured. But there isn't much time to dwell on that, as the heroes find themselves under attack once again. They beat a hasty retreat to the ship and blast their way through, finally finding the location of the lost Atlantis – which was literally stolen from the surface and transported here whole. And the entire population has been living here in Dagon's kingdom – but time hasn't been working the same way down here. The lost city. Via DC Comics. It's impossible to talk too much about this story without discussing the big twist at its center, but solicits have been kind of giving it away, so yeah – a lot more time has passed in Atlantis than it has on the surface level. This has turned Garth and Jackson into wizened warriors, Andy into a teenager who takes after her mother – and Mera into an old woman on the brink of death. I'm not sure all of this will stick, because it's such a massive status quo change not just to Aquaman's family but to his entire supporting cast. However, the scenes when Arthur is reunited with his family are truly harrowing, as this entire situation is definitely a father's worst nightmare. It reminds me of the ending of Chris Nolan's Interstellar. It's such a huge reset for the title that I can't even guess what'll come next – but I suppose that's the mark of a run that manages to genuinely shake things up for its character. When a young couple from Seattle, Washington, brought home a second dog, it wasn't because they wanted more chaos into their house, but rather to give their quiet husky a companion to share her happiness with. In a viral TikTok video shared in June under the username @thepupdiaries2, the poster explains: "The real reason we got a second dog... She was so used to our routine... She had so much love to give... She needed someone who spoke pup and not just human language. "Always curled up in her little husky ball. Lower energy levels. She was so happy but something felt missing. It was so calm all the time... a little too calm. It was like she was waiting for a buddy to enjoy her loving home with." While at the beginning of the clip the pup looks reserved and bored, by the time her owners bring her new sibling home, she completely changes. With her new little brother she's suddenly active, playful, and it seems she can't stop smiling. Screenshots of the viral video show Mera spending time alone before the arrival of her brother. His first adoption fell through and it was truly just meant to be". The poster, Diana Antoci, told Newsweek that the husky, Mera, which they've had for two years, is the sweetest girl, and she's full of "personality, spunk, and love." "She has such a gentle yet exciting bond with everyone she meets, and she's always been our little shadow, following us around wherever we go! She's a very independent girl, but loves her new younger brother and loves cuddling up with us. I appreciate you sharing her sweet face with your community!" she said. While some dogs crave and enjoy the company of other canines, not all of them do, and you should always respect your pup's wishes. Oakland Veterinary says that before bringing a new dog home to your pup, you should ask yourself if your dog actually enjoys being with other dogs, how they behave around other pups, and how their mood appears after a play date. If your dog does indeed need a friend, try to get one with a similar personality, better if the opposite gender, whose size is not more than 50 percent different. The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 601,300 views and 76,700 likes on the platform. One user, commented: "It's the last picture that sealed the deal. She's happppppyy.... Awwww." Shondradapurpleon added: "This touched me, I have a German shepherd and I think he is feeling the same, but I can't afford to care for another baby." Gen Z Woman's Bizarre Pregnancy Craving Goes Viral—It's Cereal With a Twist

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A Gen Z mom to be is raising eyebrows online after sharing her latest pregnancy craving. London-based Lidia Mera (@lidiavmera) told TikTok viewers that it was the time of day where she needed her "current hyper fixation" snack now that she's in her third trimester. "It's a little bit... I wouldn't say weird, but let's just say interesting," Mera said in her clip. The 24-year-old then prepares a bowl of chocolate hazelnut cereal complete with milk and ice cubes and an unexpectedly generous splash of soy sauce. Mera told Newsweek that her pregnancy craving is a sweet and salty snack that "somehow" works perfectly. "The perfect fusion between refreshing ice cold milk, chocolate filled crunchy cereal for the sweetness and then finishing it off with soy sauce to add that salty element into it—the perfect combo," she said. As someone who's always had a sweet tooth, Mera explained that she's started to also crave salty foods since becoming pregnant. "I tried to find a way to incorporate that salty element into a snack I regularly have: a bowl of cereal, and soy sauce just sounded like the perfect solution," she told Newsweek. "The ice cubes came in to make the milk even colder because when you're pregnant anything ice cold is just immediately 10 times better." Mera's clip has been viewed over 228,000 times and asked TikTok users to "rate" her pregnancy craving in the comments. "Sweet and salty is a foolproof combo so I'm not entirely surprised that this works but damn that soy sauce came out of nowhere," one user wrote. "I have soy sauce on basically everything so I get it," another user added. "Soy sauce and milk? Hell nah," a third wrote. Dr. Shyamala Vishnumohan, an accredited practicing dietitian with a special interest in fertility and pregnancy nutrition, told Newsweek that there's a reason behind pregnancy cravings. "I've seen women crave everything from raw mango with salt to tamarind, amla or even green chilli," she said. "From a scientific standpoint, they're partly driven by hormonal shifts and partly by nutrient needs." Vishnumohan also pointed to research that shows up to 90 percent of women experience cravings during pregnancy, with most occurring during the first and second trimesters. "I also believe pregnant mothers carry this intuitive body wisdom—gently nudging them toward what they need," she said. "It's a beautiful mystery." As for other cravings, Mera said she's been all about "red meat, fries, ice cream—and even better when you pair it or dip it in soy sauce." The expectant mom told Newsweek her pregnancy craving elicited a mix of opinions. "Some people saying it's absolutely horrifying and some people agreeing that this could actually be a good combo, but not sure if anyone is actually keen enough to give it a go," she said.

Review – Aquaman #6: The Wrath of Dagon

Aquaman #6 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: Jeremy Adams continues to take us deeper and deeper into the world of the DC undersea magic universe this issue, as Aquaman and his allies Arion, Vivienne, and Captain Nemo (yes, that one) traverse the depths of Dagon's realm. We've barely seen the villain in action so far, but he makes an impressive display right at the start, as a coalition of surviving ocean Gods make a stand against him – and are completely destroyed. Aquaman has other concerns at the start, though – in the form of a giant snake monster that guards the temple and doesn't seem to answer to Aquaman's influence over sea life. The stakes are high, and guest artist Michael Shelfer does a great job of depicting the scale of this battle. But it's clear our heroes have just started exploring this realm, and the location and fate of Mera and Andy are far from settled – although Mera's brief cameo last issue was very ominous. The renegades. Via DC Comics. There's a tone to this arc that almost feels like a video game in the best way. Every step of the process is a new test, a new journey, and likely a new boss at the end. As Aquaman and his compatriots explore an eerie undersea temple, they encounter a group of foes that reveal just how powerful Dagon is and what he can do to his defeated opponents – which raises the stakes even higher. This series has taken Aquaman's powers and turned them from punchline to an intriguing manifestation of the most powerful force on the planet – and this larger mythology about them also pulls in probably the last character I ever expected to see appear in a cliffhanger. Aquaman's adventures mostly seem to be apart from the main DCU at this point, and I think this title is better for it. The character really shines when he's doing things that only he can do and exploring new realms deep below the waves. To find reviews of all the DC issues, visit DC This Week.
