Brabus I mean, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63S E Performance is nice and all, but have you seen the Brabus 1000? That's what a 1000hp supercar from Brabus looks like. The northern German tuning house has been on a power-hungry tear recently, and the two-seat, Mercedes-based Brabus 1000 supercar coupe stands at the current peak of Brabus' outrageousness. With 1000 metric horsepower (or 986 US horsepower) and 1342 ft-lb of torque, the Brabus 1000 has enough gristle from its ludricrously overstuffed powertrain to hit 62mph in 2.6 seconds, 124mph in 9.2 seconds and 186mph (300km/h) in 23.6 seconds. Brabus Known for extracting comical performance numbers from, especially, Mercedes-Benz-based vehicles, Brabus has expanded to other brands, but still returns to its favourite game of moving Mercedes-AMG from the flagship of Mercedes-Benz performance to the mid-range. They've enlarged the 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 to 4.5 liters, giving it 184hp (181 US hp) more than the peak AMG version. It matches this with a 150kW (201hp) electric motor, all punched through a strengthened version of the GT's nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. Priced at $516,000, the Brabus 1000 also comes with digital proof of authenticity, with Brabus being part of the Aura Blockchain Consortium that includes Cartier, Prada and LVMH. Brabus Extra capacity has always been the preferred pathway to power for Brabus, and the V8's bore was enlarged to 84mm (3.3 inches) to move it from 3982cc to 4407cc. It uses matching forged pistons to fill the wider holes, and there are forged connecting rods that have added 100mm (3.9 inches) to the stroke length, and a precision-balanced, billet-aluminium crankshaft to take all that performance. It uses Brabus' own stainless-steel exhaust, complete with metal catalysts and a particulate filter, and butterfly exhaust flaps give the driver a choice between everything from 'coming home' quiet mode to the loudest track mode. The V8 itself delivers 585kW (785 US hp) of power and, from just 2,900rpm, 1250Nm (922 lb-ft) of torque. Brabus limits that stupendous torque to 1050Nm (774 lb-ft) in the production car to preserve the powertrain and minimize wheelspin. It's similar story with the overall peak torque of 1,820Nm (1,342lb-ft), which has been limited to 1620Nm (1,195lb-ft) for safer driving. It didn't bother changing the 204 hp electric motor from the production car, and adopted it as a turn-key proposal. Brabus Brabus has tweaked the GT's aero package, too, but that seems as much to stand out as it does to be practical. All of the aero parts are made in exposed carbon-fiber, though Brabus gives the option of high-gloss or matte finish. A combination of 21-inch monoblock wheels, developed just for the 1000, up front and 22-inch versions in the rear set off the look. The front rims are wrapped in 305/30 ZR 21 rubber and it's a pair of 335/25 ZR 22s down the back, both of which are available from either Continental or Hankook. It rides on a combination of Brabus's own in-house springs and a height-adjustable suspension system from KW, which drops the ride height 0.8in over the AMG version. The raised side flaps for the front spoiler are claimed to add front-axle downforce at speed, there are raised canards ahead of the front wheels for high-speed stability, there is a carbon-fiber diffuser, with space for four three-inch exhaust pipes, and a significant rear wing. POWER broker: Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance driven

Ahead of me is a convoy of Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance super sports cars, on the world-famous Clarence Drive near Gordon's Bay. Along for the ride is the new SL 63 and CLE 53. It's a regular AMG Christmas in July. The concept behind the event was for media to sample a selection of the latest AMG products. In reverse power order, there's the six-cylinder 48V mild-hybrid CLE 53 AMG with 330 kW and 600 Nm. Then the AMG SL 63 Roadster (non-hybrid) twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, good for 430 kW and 800 Nm. And finally, the top dog Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance with a scarcely believable 600 kW and 1 420 Nm of torque, aided by a 6.1 kWh plug-in battery on top of its twin-turbo V8. Image: Mercedes-Benz Press We pull hard through a series of sweeping bends towards a tight hairpin surrounded by unforgiving rock. Ahead of me is the SL 63 Roadster, which is certainly no hairdryer with its force-fed V8 guffawing at maximum voice. I've got the best bucket seat in the house as we attack the famed coast road that once played host to the Mercedes SLR world launch. Double-clutch transmissions rata-tata up and down shifts like a pair of intoxicated drum majorettes … Our duo roars in happy unison in the damp conditions, until the SL enters the next hairpin too cautiously and I line up alongside. The road is clear of traffic all the way around, so I squeeze the throttle and trust the Michelin Cup rubber is warm enough to grip up. Boy, does it ever! The electric-boosted Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance performs its teleportation trick and I slingshot tens of metres ahead in the blink of an eye. I drop anchor hard in the next hairpin with the standard carbon ceramic brakes and shove my surrounds into reverse. This gains me yet more distance on my open-top pursuer. This is exciting! Any worries the new-generation AMG GT would be too soft has been well and truly eliminated. Image: Mercedes-Benz Press Beyond the awe-inspiring figures – zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and 320 km/h plus top speed, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is simply a joy to drive. It clings hard to the tarmac with active aerodynamics, in the form of a movable front chin spoiler. There is a multi-mode traction control system so you can dial in just the right amount of electronic aid for the conditions. And rear-wheel steering helps pinch your line in tight corners and stabilise the chassis in the fast stuff. Now, in clear air with glorious open road ahead, I pin the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance's ears back. I trust the brute and I'm well and truly up to speed. The steering in Race mode is tight, suspension taut like a freshly tuned guitar string. We flow like electrified mercury, with speed and physics my guide. And allow me to report that the combination of twin-turbo V8 with instant electrical assistance on throttle is simply incredible. There is no lag, no hesitation, and all the while it's as if the drivetrain is pure and naturally aspirated. Yet, the savagery underfoot matches that of battery electric acceleration. Image: Mercedes-Benz Press At the end of the pass, adrenalin purged, we pull over for some photography with the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance and vanquished SL 63 sister. Together, their AMG Panamericana grilles, long forward prow and cabin-back stance are unmistakably attractive. The high-tech, opulent cabins are wonderful, too, with more computing power on board than a space agency. Of course, they've shared a platform since the last AMG GT and both therefore qualify as ultimate dream cars. The SL 63 is for the exhibitionist in you and the Mercedes AMG 63 is if you love playing g-force dodgems with your internal organs. However, amongst their overflowing bag of talents, I'd proffer the real takeaway is how unintimidating they are to drive in every-day conditions. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance shows that electrification isn't something to shy away from. It can be utilised for all the right reasons in a super-sports-car application. And by Jove, if you could just keep it out of Race mode, it would be darn economical, too. R4. 3m buys you the fastest-accelerating Mercedes-AMG ever: GT 63 S E Performance now on sale

Jason Woosey | Published 2 weeks ago Sprinting from 0-100km/h in a claimed 2.8 seconds, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance elevates the brand to almost hypercar levels of performance. Now on sale in South Africa, the new two-door flagship is yours for R4,369,287, and surprisingly that doesn't make it the most expensive Benz on the market. The G63 (R4.45m) and S63 (R4.6m) are even more detrimental to your cashflow. South Africans already had an early preview of the GT 63 S E at the 2025 Simola Hillclimb in Knysna in early May, where it won the road and supercar category with Clint Weston behind the wheel. But what makes it tick? The new S E Performance model, not to be confused with the regular GT 63, pairs a powerful 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a 150kW rear-mounted electric motor for system outputs of 600kW and 1,420Nm. The result is a car that accelerates even quicker than the GT Black Series and F1-derived Mercedes-AMG One. It's even ferocious at Gauteng altitudes, with independent performance tester Mark Jones having achieved a 0-100km/h time of 2.76 seconds at the Gerotek testing facility. For what it's worth, the new AMG hybrid model can also travel up to 13km on electric power alone, thanks to its 6.1 kWh battery, which is mounted above the rear axle. The new GT 63 hybrid model rolls on 21-inch alloy wheels with a five-spoke design, and also boasts some impressive aerodynamic features. Chief among these is an active aerodynamic element beneath the front bumper, that can extend downwards to create the Venturi effect, effectively sucking the car onto the road at higher speeds. Chassis wizardry includes AMG's Active Ride Control suspension with semi-active roll stabilisation, as well as active rear-axle steering that greatly enhances agility at low and high speeds. AMG's ceramic composite braking system, with six-piston callipers at the front, is part of the deal too. Moving inside, the 2+2 cabin comes with electrically adjustable AMG sports seats with three massage programmes, and there is a large selection of upholsteries to choose from. Furthermore, the MBUX multimedia system has numerous AMG and hybrid-specific displays and functions. Spearheading Mercedes-AMG's GT product portfolio, the GT 63 S E Performance has touched down on South African shores. Touted as the fastest accelerating series-production Mercedes-AMG model to date, the GT 63 S E Performance was revealed in April 2024. Now, the pinnacle model in the Affalterbach-based brand's GT product portfolio has finally been unleashed in South Africa. Related: Review: Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ The GT 63 S E Performance employs a plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising Mercedes-AMG's familiar 4l twin-turbocharged V8, which, here, has been tuned to produce 460kW and 850N.m of torque, and a 150kW/320N.m permanently excited synchronous electric motor. Power is sent to all four corners via the firm's nine-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. The apex two-door GT's petrol-electric setup produces a total system output of 600kW and a whopping 1 420N.m, allowing for a whip-crack claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds. The company quotes a top speed of 320km/h. The GT 63 S E Performance is brought to a halt by fore and aft carbon-ceramic brake discs, measuring 420mm and 380mm in diameter, respectively. The braking setup further features six-piston front and single-piston floating rear callipers. The E Performance GT 63's electric motor is coupled with a 400V battery pack. According to the automaker, the 6.1kWh lithium-ion unit provides an electric-only operating range of 13km. The claimed average fuel consumption is 12.3l100 km. Second torquiest AMG product on-sale in South Africa today finally arrives after its competition success in Knysna in May. Image: Colin Mileman Having made its public debut at the Simola Hillclimb in Knysna last month, where it won the production car category overall piloted by AMG Driving Experience boss Clint Weston, Mercedes-Benz has divulged pricing of the AMG GT63 S E Performance. Performance hybrid The replacement for the previous generation AMG GT R, the two-door GT63 becomes Affalterbach's second torquiest road car on-sale today behind the S65 E Performance, by combining the stalwart 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor and battery pack. Devised as a short range hybrid with emphasis on performance, hence its name, the V8 develops 450kW/850Nm on its own and is mated to the nine-speed MCT transmission. ALSO READ: Mercedes-AMG shocks 500 kW jolt into two-door AMG GT 63 Combined with a rear mounted electric motor developing 150kW/320Nm, driven by a 6.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the AMG GT63 S E Performance produces 600kW/1 420Nm, which AMG says will get it from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 320 km/h. As with the four-door AMG GT63 and the S65 E Performance, drive is routed to all four wheels via the 4Matric+ all-wheel-drive system. Being a plug-in hybrid, but with performance as the main focus, as mentioned, the claim all-electric is a mere 13 km. AMG modes Able to feed as much as 100 kW back into the battery pack using the regenerative braking system, the local market AMG GT63 S E Performance comes with the same hybrid-optimised AMG Dynamic Select system as the variant sold in Europe. In total, this consist of eight settings: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, Electric and Battery Hold, which uses the V8 as the main propulsion method without affecting the battery's range. Inside and out Carried over from the Old Continent model as well is the rear-axle steering system, the adaptive AMG Ride Control dampers, model specific shock absorbers and springs, the standard AMG carbon ceramic brakes, and the AMG light alloy wheels measuring 20-inches at the front and 21-inches at the rear. Inside, the AMG GT63 S E Performance's unique accommodation includes optional diamond quilting on the AMG Performance Nappa leather trimmed seats, and hybrid graphics and readouts within the 12.3-inch instrument cluster and the 11.9-inch MBUX infotainment system. Price Forming part of a three model range as Mercedes-Benz South Africa's website lists the GT 55 and standard GT 63 as the other variants, albeit without pricing, the GT63 S E Performance as a sticker of R4 369 287, which includes a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan.
